Wild Horses wrote some good songs but what a disastrous decision to allow Jimmy Bain to sing. His vocals were incredibly weak and ruined the band's chances.
Jimmy's vox are cool and fit the music. If Lou Reed and Tom Waits can have careers as singers then Jimmy Bain singing certainly wasn't the downfall of Wild Horses. There were plenty of other reasons that are more plausible.
Lou Reed is a poor singer but at least his voice is very distinctive and rich in character. Bain's vocals on the other hand, were thin and weedy and diluted the overall quality of the songs.
Agreed! Jimmy Bain struggled with his vocals. Brian on the other hand had a better tone to his singing and suited the music. Having weak vocals doesn't lead to unsuccess. Wild Horses met their demise simply because the two most important ingredient (Robbo and Jimmy) grew apart and questioned eachothers integrity. According to Brian, deception played an integral part. i'm sure there was personal problems that interferred with the music. Only Brian and Jimmy will know the truth. Love this song!
Brian Robertson and Jimmy Bain were both raging party boys who didn't have their shit together and eventually turned on each other when success didn't come. Brian in particular must've been almost impossible to deal with at the time (shades of Thin Lizzy) and practically sabotaged his own band/career by being an imbecile. And, ultimately, WHorses were not heavy metal enough for the times with harder bands like Maiden, Saxon, Leppard etc. breaking through via the NWOBHM.
I have never heard this stuff before. It is very good. Always a fan of Robertson even if he was kind of a goof-off. E. g., the Motorhead album "Another Perfect Day" is a classic, in my opinion.
Another Pefect Day stands on it's own among all Motorhead albums. It's the most diffrent..I thought the album was just as awesome..it had just as much attitude with harmony...
I read an interview way back in the day during the "Another Perfect Day" album and the interviewer asked Robertson "How many tracks do you use to record the guitar" and Robertson says, "all 24." Then the interviewer tells him that Gary Moore says he uses too much wah-wah. Robertson replies, "Tell Gary Moore I'm gonna' staple my wah-pedal to his face." One of a kind album, really. I never thought Motorhead capitalized enough on that album.
I am a fan of Robertson...the way Robertson uses the wahwah is very diffrent from generic wah wah users...Just like Another Perfect day Robertson stands om his own...He is very overlooked and I collect what ever I can find on his 70's to early 80's sound..
Love Jimmy's vocals !!! Why all the singers must be primadonnas????
