@Netaro1000 You hit people with the book to record their information. In this game, the world is set to end and it's your job to scan everything you see fit to carry over to the new world. You scan by hitting people with the book (and no the people can't see what you're doing with the hitting). :P

It plays sort of like a Legend of Zelda game where you move whole screens at a time and each screen has it's own enemies and/or secrets. You battle with weapons and you can equip armor and other stuff. The book thing is pretty significant but it's not like this video where you smack fifty things in succession. You do smack most things with the book at least once to get them into the book, but it's sort of like this game's version of treasure chests (sort of)

I don't believe there is any multiplayer. They had a wifi feature for the Japan version where you just trade book stats, but it was removed for the US game.

Not only scan, but edit. You can scan and replace attributes of people and things to alter them. It really is an addictive, creative, and fun way to make a DS RPG!

Adding on to what granvillimus said...

And THAT'S what makes this game freaking awesome.

For example, you whack a goblin. They have 500 HP. They have such high HP because of certain things in their code. Take those out and the HP of every goblin drops. Add in some come that reduces HP, and you just reduced the HP of every goblin you'll see by 90%.

It's an incredibly unique game that can be customized with those codes to make it easier or more challenging. I recommend it!
