In What If? Spider-Man: The Other (Earth-70134), a what if of what would've happened if he had kept the symbiote, he ends up going insane. He calls himself Poison, and as the story progresses he eventually goes to dig up the body of Gwen Stacy and replicated himself within her, turning her into a Carnage-like creature. Not really a decent ending for Spider-Man, so it's a good thing he gets rid of the thing. Eddie Brock makes the symbiote look good anyway. =P

Well, I'm not wrong am I? He goes insane, he's not longer Peter Parker. The fight that happens between him and the symbiote is a battle that Peter looses. Though I was wrong in one sense - this is something that happens "what if Peter rejected the spider". If he had kept the symbiote the symbiote would've drained him to old age and abandoned him (a bit out of character considering the Venom symbiote is supposed to "love" Parker)... okay, I'm rambling, I'll shush.
