Unfortunately alcoholism and drug addiction are a couple of symptoms of high stress breakdown. Any person who is an emergency services worker knows how stressful the jobs are. Who do we blame, the people who become victims of stress breakdown? This is a tragedy most certainly and I have great empathy for the firefighters and all those affected by this incident. But for the grace of God...!

Well, I have been a firefighter for many years, and I have also done my share of drugs and drinking in my young life. That being said, alcohol, and Cocaine don't stay in the bodily system more than 48 hrs. So, if the autopsy showed it, they WERE both under the influence. And I have also seen quite a few ppl, ( who aren't around anymore ) attempt to answer an alarm under the influence of various things. Bottom line...we are all human...these things WILL happen.
I think in any emergency service profession, police, fire and ambulance, should undergo routine drug testing. They are out there 'saving lives' and it has been my experience, my ex was in one of these professions which I will refrain from saying which one it is, and I know he abused drugs on a daily basis. Guaranteed he has been high on the job. Is this safe for his co-workers when he goes out? I think not, and especially the public, who he is out there helping.

Regardless, two firemen are no longer here serve their families and their community. Stress leads to substance abuse and help is needed but rarely welcomed. It's extrememly hard for the people who are always helping others to ask others for help.

It's hard for almost any man to come forward when he has a problem, and for people like firefighters, especially—who often feel they have an even greater obligation to be bastions of bravery and personal strength—it's even harder. I do not and have never used drugs before. I am a fireman though, and though these guys made a mistake, I find it very disrespectful for this radio host to put these guys down that put their lives on the line. Again, I do not approve of the improper actions, but maybe that guy should take the challenge of working the stressful work that firemen do. I'm sure that he couldn't take the things that are seen, spending a third of the year at work, or staying a whole 24 hrs. every shift from his family

What if , this was a freak accident that occured to some highly experienced firefighters, that happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time,and made a stupid mistake one night, just like any of us could ? Man, thats fucked up, as a firefighter myself, that hurts. We put our lives on the line for people like you, you say they should get rid of us, but who's gonna help you when your house is on fire, and your stuck inside? Im not bashin you or anything, just have a little respect.
If you think all we do is put water on fire, you are very uneducated about what our job is. A very small percentage of our calls are fire. We pull people out of car wrecks, respond to hazmat, water rescue, high angel rescue, confined space rescue, and the majority of our calls are medical. We see accidents, violence, and death all the time. Let me ask you. Do you have a fire hose to put your house out? I bet you don't.
As a firefighter, I am sad for the family of these men. We know that its required that we remain physically strong, mentally tough and straight. The men are required to abide by keeping away from drugs and alcohol, especially within 8 hours of a shift. I don't know these men and have myself cut loose a time or two, but didn't show up to a fire under the influence. God bless these men, and thier family's. The rest is all legal stuff. They are my brothers.

Ok, it's not known whether he was "drunk" or just had a little alcohol in his system. According to the medical examiner, the heat from the fire that they were trapped in could have increased the reading of the amount of alcohol in his body. While neither of them should have been drinking on the job, and the cocaine is inexcusable, neither of their deaths were necessarily related to being under the influence. They both deserve great respect for giving their lives in the line of duty.

Unfortunately alcoholism and drug addiction are a couple of symptoms of high stress breakdown. Any person who is an emergency services worker knows how stressful the jobs are. Who do we blame, the people who become victims of stress breakdown? This is a tragedy most certainly and I have great empathy for the firefighters and all those affected by this incident. Well, I have been a firefighter for many years, and I have also done my share of drugs and drinking in my young life. That being said, alcohol, and Cocaine don't stay in the bodily system more than 48 hrs. So, if the autopsy showed it, they WERE both under the influence. And I have also seen quite a few ppl, ( who aren't around anymore ) attempt to answer an alarm under the influence of various things. Bottom line...we are all human...these things WILL happen.

I think in any emergency service profession, police, fire and ambulance, should undergo routine drug testing. They are out there 'saving lives' and it has been my experience, my ex was in one of these professions which I will refrain from saying which one it is, and I know he abused drugs on a daily basis. Guaranteed he has been high on the job. Is this safe for his co-workers when he goes out? I think not, and especially the public, who he is out there helping.

Regardless, two firemen are no longer here serve their families and their community. Stress leads to substance abuse and help is needed but rarely welcomed. It's extrememly hard for the people who are always helping others to ask others for help.

I do not and have never used drugs before. I am a fireman though, and though these guys made a mistake, I find it very disrespectful for this radio host to put these guys down that put their lives on the line. Again, I do not approve of the improper actions, but maybe that guy should take the challenge of working the stressful work that firemen do. I'm sure that he couldn't take the things that are seen, spending a third of the year at work, or staying a whole 24 hrs. every shift from his family

If you think all we do is put water on fire, you are very uneducated about what our job is. A very small percentage of our calls are fire. We pull people out of car wrecks, respond to hazmat, water rescue, high angel rescue, confined space rescue, and the majority of our calls are medical. We see accidents, violence, and death all the time. Let me ask you. Do you have a fire hose to put your house out? I bet you don't.

As a firefighter, I am sad for the family of these men. We know that its required that we remain physically strong, mentally tough and straight. The men are required to abide by keeping away from drugs and alcohol, especially within 8 hours of a shift. I don't know these men and have myself cut loose a time or two, but didn't show up to a fire under the influence. God bless these men, and thier family's. The rest is all legal stuff. They are my brothers.

That first caller Brian needs to shut the hell up! These guys spent YEARS fighting fires saving lives and helping people and they make one mistake and he's tryna say their families shouldn't be compensated by their life insurance.

That is so fucked up they would ruin these guys reputation by allowing them to state the alcohol, and cocaine use! that should have been left alone and sent with these two senior firefighters to their grave. I am sad they would tell the public this information and embarrass their families.... so sad!

People have a right to know when VERY IMPORTANT people fuck up. It's a fuck up, plain and simple. They did something they shouldn't have done.
I'm not knocking firefighters. They do something I could never do and save lives everyday and it's amazing that there are people out there to do this for everyone but with the job comes responsibility and these 2 treated it like a game.
We the people have a right to know, that things like this are possible, so that they may be stopped in the future.

Do not judge these men who are not here to defend themselves. They gave their lives protecting the houses and lives of these people talking. After seeing some of the things they saw in their careers, without proper counciling, which they now have, you have to turn to something. Do Not Judge Them. Now they have councelors to deal with the tragedies we see. When these guys started they did not. Do not abandon their familes now. RIP brothers

I just got on a call department and live in the area of these brave men. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't something fall on them through the roof in this case? It's funny how people hold one mistake against these 2 men who have served more then a decade each for the very idiots that are bashing them. just my 2 cents

i couldnt agree anymore with my brothers. people are ignorant and don't understand the stress in the job. what does a radio talk host know about FF. I think he should keep his mouth shut until i see him waking up at any givin time at night to drag a hose line to put out a fire or run paramedic call.

does not matter what they were on...cocaine probably to cope with the long work loads and hours, alcohol to cope with the daily job of looking at bodies and the fear of the flames....no fear equals death tho. still when i go into the fireground i have full awareness. But you never know whats goin on when a fire blows up and you gotta drop what your doing. they gave their lives regardless of what they were on so show some respect.

Ok, it's not known whether he was "drunk" or just had a little alcohol in his system. According to the medical examiner, the heat from the fire that they were trapped in could have increased the reading of the amount of alcohol in his body. While neither of them should have been drinking on the job, and the cocaine is inexcusable, neither of their deaths were necessarily related to being under the influence. They both deserve great respect for giving their lives in the line of duty.

alright well u know what this is america and people do have a right to free speech and trust me my brothers it bugs me just as much to hear some one bad mouthing firefighter calling use stupid and all that but im not going to let it get to me and neither should yall. i know what i do is for my community and to help others and i know at the end of they day when those same peole need help who they will call and when they do i will help them the same i would any one else. stay safe and stay strong.

I agree with firefightermvfd509: This hundmule searches for all firefighter videos and does this to get attention. Don't give him it to him. He thinks what he does and us stooping to his level won't change that. It only makes us look like less than we are.
The families shouldn't suffer because of their spouses mistakes. There should be some kind of program of checks and balances.
To all of my brothers and sisters, lets take care of each other. There is enough dangers that we can't control.
