GIMP: Free Alternative to Photoshop

You guys just stop going on about how Photoshop is better than Gimp, of course it would be! Otherwise, Gimp wouldn't be free. Gimp is pretty much the FREE alternative to Photoshop, not an exact copy.

I haven't tried Gimp yet, but I know people who do amazing things with that program. So it IS possible to do stuff with it as ling as your willing to try

Gimp is retarded. It freezes, and the tool quality is crap.

It's free because it's cheap. I'm saying this with only knowledge of the CS1, and Photoshop Elemets version 4.0 and 5.0.

Clearly I am not a person who uses the advanced CS4 and CS5, but I can tell you that with Gimp you will be wasting your time. I had it freeze for no reason on my brand new computer twice during a coloring session and I was done with it.

All I know is when I downloaded photoshop I spent a couple hours trying to find how to paste one photo over another. I read the help file for what seemed like endless hours and I tried clicking as many buttons as I could all with no luck. With Gimp I figured out how to do it in 20 minutes. You'd think with Photoshop being such a big name brand they could make the program user friendly especialy for people new to it but they don't.

I have all the six versions from Photosho 6 to CS4 installed to support my site I've just opened Photoshop 6 and I can tell you that drag and drop already worked in that version, which is btw 10 years old, so when you claim that it didn't work you were using a Photoshop version that was even older than 10 years and that is a life time in the computer world.

not a bad introduction, but my understanding is that: 1) sharpen is the last thing you do to an image (the poster sharpened, then scaled); and 2) unsharp mask is generally much better than the normal sharpen tool.
