XD this was freakin hilarious!! They need to do another!!! I guess you could say im one of them, but im one who actually knows things!! Like im into anime, but its more like the country and the culture. But all in all this skit was freakin hilarious and they need to do another!!
What's really sad is that this used to be me and my group of friends eight years ago! We created an anime club and everything. Not @ MSU, but very close to it.
Would've been funnier if they bothered to do RESEARCH on this. They could've culled numerous annoyances within the fandom and walk away with a dozen scripts easily. But they used outdated tropes and nuisances for this crap.
@cesariojpn I think the main idea of the skit was to poke fun at people who DON'T know anything about Japanese culture and think that they can learn things just by watching anime (in other words, weaboos.) As for why they didn't include more annoyances within the fandom, they probably tried to keep it short. Also, they MIGHT be planning a sequel skit and touch on some of the other annoyances. The SNL cast tends to do that with their more popular skits.
@rikkulockhart15 They could've added one or two more elements. Cherry Cherry looks to me like a typical deviantArt user. Maybe her going off on "Sensei Mark" for his blunt (yet honest) criticism would've been the tipping point for me.
@cesariojpn That's true. Cherry Cherry was a DeviantART user who was trying to do covers of Vocaloid songs.
Maybe we can suggest ideas to the SNL crew for a second episode since other than "Sensei Mark" and the "Japanese girlfriend," all the characters seemed to be the typical weaboos you find on the internet. Unless there's an uproar about it being racist, they'll probably do a sequel.
I can think of several. 4chan's tripfaggots would fill two skits easily. Fat hambeast Gothic Lolitas and Cosplayers would be another. Narcissistic Cosplayers as well. Drama-queen Scanlators and Fansubbers is another. Creepy stalker Otakus would be another. The Shut-in Otaku/Video Gamer would be another. Damn, these things practically write themselves!!
@cesariojpn LOL Those are all good ideas. I could just see Kenan dressing up as a popular, skimpy anime character (for their next guest) and Sensei Mark being all "No offense, but that cosplay does not flatter your figure, ma'am." And then Kenan would be "HOW DARE YOU!"
I think you pointed out the main issue in the plus cosplay community: too many of them cosplay skimpy characters that show too much skin. For instance, cosplays with long skirts look nice on pretty much everyone. o-o;
wow. disney just became racist. if walt disney was alive.....

I wondered when SNL would do a skit like this, considering how popular anime and Japanese culture has become in the US.
