The best thing I love to sit and reflect on, remember, is that beautiful women all went out to the discos on the weekend. They were wearing feminine dresses, jeans and t shirts, sporty blazers and trousers, etc. They did not have to dress like whores nor act llike whores to have fun and they were still pretty. It wasn't about showing off. We danced hard, not stand around looking at each other, talking shit and trying to act cool instead of partying. So sad the times we are in, no joy of life.
I hate it how people always think THEIR generation had/has it right. Give or take individuals and unusual events every generation is the same, some have more drugs some have less, but the people are COMPLETELY interchangeable.
There was good and bad during the disco era. I was having so much fun dancing and enjoying songs like this until I was mostly oblivious to the seedier side of it (illicit sex and drugs). All i wanted to do was have a couple of drinks and dance, dance, dance too good disco music. Nothing wrong with that!
this is a funny movie I saw it in 1978 i was 11 years old never forgot about it my fav line is "YOU BET YOUR SWEET ASS YOUR SORRY " thats what that garbage truck driver would say he was on a blind date looking for her in the bar .. & that drag queen guy in the john primping in the mirror & that chick giving that dude a quaalude & he flips out on the swing & acts like tarzan , refer quaaludes yellows
fuzz heat 70's jive turkey dyno mite ... had a jj walker doll in the 70's ...
@mrcrymnd Your last line is key. People have no class any longer. If you try to go out today, you find today's 20-somethings are all concerned about "respect" and if you look at them the "wrong way", trouble. Thankfully, my club days are done. All you hear about now are fights and shootings at clubs in all cities, even the supposedly "high end" clubs. As you said, it is because you have people, idiots, who do not know how to act. This includes people of ALL races and colors by the way.
@capitolguy106 How often did you see guys having to carry girls out of clubs because they were too intoxicated to walk in those days? I don't think any decent guy would have been turned on by such trashy, classless behaviour. That is all I see in the nightlife scene today. Slouchy arrogant guys with nasty bitchy women who all look alike (like cheap whores), bad mouthing, showing off, and criticizing. No dancing, not real dancing anyway.
Saw it at the cinema and have the the 3 disc soundtrack on vinyl.....still play it all the time.....how can you not love Paul Jabarra!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Disco Ball 9 L I V E @ Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort Atlantic City NJ on Sat Oct 16, 2010. Starring live in concert,,,Gloria Gaynor, Santa Esmeralda starring Leroy Gomez, The Trammps featuring Earl Young, Rob Parissi of Wild Cherry, MUSIQUE, Norma Jean Wright & Luci Martin formerly of Chic, Anita Ward, Rose Royce, Sugar Hill Gang, Peaches & Herb, LIME, original village people cowboy Randy Jones, WCBS FM DJ Joe Causi & Smokin Joe Frazier. I have my tickets. Are you going?
I'm italian, today 57yrs old. I can only say that those years were the top for all those who wanted to have the time of their life at a disco. I also was lucky enough to get into Studio 54!!!!!!
I don't know about today, since I have stopped going to discos for years now, but whenever I listen to that wonderful music I know for sure I am priviliged to have lived every single one of those irrepeatable golden years. Thank you 70s!!!
I don't care what anyone says, this move really illustrated what the disco era was all about. Getting dressed up, and going to the disco. Being someone out, when you were a nobody in your real life.
I'd almost kill to be able to bring back this era and mantra back. Before the days of "seen and been seen", it was all about having fun and just having a good time.
This Movie Launched the Career of Donna Summer. I'm still mad at all Those Haters that thought Disco was a Bad Thing. it wasn't all about the Beat it was about Dressing up and having a Good Time. Sadly this Generation knows nothing about it.
@perpetual61 Uh...nope. When this movie came out in 1979, Donna's already a very big star/singer. I believe it was the year 1976 when she really hit it big with her song "Love to love you, Baby". She DID push disco to a fever pitch with her albums. DIsco was on the way out when TGIF was released. Though disco really didnt fade out in the 80s, it just wasnt wasnt as big as during the late 70s
@perpetual61 this movie did not launch Donna Summers career..she was already a veteran of stage/usic by 1978..matter of fact , she admits she was DISAPPOINTED in her role in this movie..she felt she was there as the "running joke " and didnt appear in movies after this
@perpetual61 Amen! What happend to when you went out and had FUN and Dressed up and enjoyed your friends? And you have to admit that beat is pretty hot.
@perpetual61 Congratulations, you became a hater yourself!! Nice touch at the end with "Sadly this generation knows nothing about it". I'm gonna quote Luis Alberto Spinetta here: "altough they force me i'm never going to say 'every past time was better time'" Live up your present, you're still alive and healthy enough to think.
@perpetual61 I think ppl form their opinions based on a set of stereotypes they learn. Young ppl have no idea how difft those times were, in a good way, and that they r the unfortunate ones. Respectfully tho, Donna Summer was already well on her way by 1976 when Love to Love You came out. You're right though that there was more to disco than polyester suits and dancing like John Travolta, that is cliche. It was a mindset. It was all about getting along and having fun.
I wish i could back to also! Kung Fu Fighting was on the radio and movies like the bad news bears and grease were playing at the drive in. I am sorry to hear that Ray Vitte died. This movie still brings all of it back me!
Yes. Unfortunately, Ray Vitte got into some kind of battle with the police in Los Angeles. The details aren't clear to me, but he died. He had no place to go but up in his career.
look at girls getting on the bus around the 52 sec area its the girl who played doris on the original fame tv show and her friend is terri nunn of berlin
A funny scene is when Paul Jabara gets trapped in a stairway. His song "Trapped in A Stairway" is my favorite in the movie - - too bad it didn't hit. Anyone knows if it was released as a single?
I love this movie and the music is fantastic!! I remember going to opening night of this movie....talk about a crazy disco night!!! the good ole days!!
need to post more parts of this great movie. Especially Gus' parts. "you bet your sweet ass your sorry, you dip" and the scene when the kid was coming driving into the disco with the vw bug.
You know, this film has gotta have one ofthe worst acting and scripts I've ever witnessed. But I wish I could get a copy - I just love the songs. they just evoke a period of fun and free living. But I also want to see Donna Summer's finale of the film again as I thought that was triumphant.
I used to go disco dancing with my sister. I would grab that booty and dance all night long. My sister and i were real close if you know what i mean. wink wink
@prjr1973 I was "part" of that generation. Even went to Studio 54 once in it's "Hey Day". Trust me, you didn't miss a thing! (Although the sex was great with no worries about AIDS or any of that stuff.)
@prjr1973 u're old, but todays club scene definitely cannot compare, mostly becuz the music sucks, people are trying to be disco but have no true understanding of what disco really embodies
