  • I own the Yamaha Motif XS7 and I'm 100% happy with my decision. If you look at any current live concert DVDs you will see that all the people on keyboards use the Motif. For proof, look at Michael Jackson's "This Is It" DVD and you will see the Motif. This also applies to Alicia Keys and other artists. Long story short, the Motif is the industry standard just like Pro Tools is.

  • hmm well what is best BMW or MERCEDES...that should be the answer

  • The two workstations are good, I have the Fantom x6 and Motif XS7, but the Yamaha sounds are more realistic, more immersive, I'll stick with the motif!

  • Fantom is better-looking. I own both keyboard, and both have their advantages. The Fantom has a great GUI for recording, has amazing keys (weighted version), and great synths and drums. The Motif has more expressive and realistic acoustic instruments such as strings, guitars, winds and brass. So I guess that makes me an idiot. Plug-ins definitely are better. Fantom's orchestral instruments sound cheap. But it's all in the ear of the beholder. I now strictly work with plug-ins.

  • fandom is better

  • No doubt, a little effort and buy both.

  • Even Motif XS7 is no match to a lower model Roland X7.....how much more to G7

  • compere the sounds of roland fantom g,with a good mastered comercial cd like m.jackson and you will see....im sure

i have done...and i cant hear any differents....drums sounds like they where in the mix...fat and crunchy...very very hi end....regards from germany

  • I Got The Fantom G7 in Me, Yeah!

  • I'am think Roland Fantom G6 because is easy to use and have special sound :)

  • No doubt, the Fantom G wins fare and square! It has all I need. That's my opinion. Urs?

  • It's not the machine its the man behind it. Any workstation that you mentioned has enough sounds and tweakability to get whatever sound you are looking for.

  • Also the Fantom G sequencer is the easiest I have ever seen on a keyboard workstation, you can use a mouse to move and edit clips, one click copy and paste.. very similar to the PC programs. Anyone who thinks the Fantom sequencer is hard to use is in the wrong business!

  • I have both the Fantom G7 and the Motif XS7. The Roland is a far better keyboard! Anyone who says different is an idiot. The Motif is a great board as well but cannot compare to the Fantom when it comes to features, sounds are about even each keyboard has patches better than the other. The M3 is a toy compared to these keyboards.. Don't know why you would even mention it in the same post. With all this being said... A laptop running plug-ins beats them all!

  • @risingforce86, wow, you're straight up all opinion. I like the realistic sounds of the motif xs, so i guess i must be an idiot. Listen to your trash dude. I also have both keyboards. The fantom G has the best sequencer of the big three. But the acoustic sounds of the Roland still can't come close to YAMAHA. No one cares about the type of keyboard we use but the finished product. But as far as performance, no one would really use a violin from Roland. YAMAHA makes real violins..... "TOO"

  • I would say that the Fantom is like the "Hardcore synth solo" thing. So if you wanna go super advanced with things, I would recommend the Fantom.

  • roland fantom g is great!

  • G6 bro m3 sounds animated motif sound beautiful but the fantom g sounds realistic and live color screen go with the g6 bro

  • I'm getting ready to buy a keyboard and I'm going to spend some time at the music store playing them and decide with hand and ears on. You should do the same.

  • I had the motif xs and thought it was the best til I got my hands on the fantom g..... Man! No comparing to me... I traded mine in for it.Sounds, functions, playability....All Fantom G Baby! Thanks for reading

  • the korg oasys is the mayor

  • I can tell you which one is the best.....!,The best keyboard ever is the one:,you like and you know much about it!Hope this helps

  • @tyros2lauraz yea i agreed , i spent hours testing both and i decided to buy the fantom

  • yO SON!!, I OWN THE FANTOM G6. THE MOTIF IS GREAT BUT ITS TOO EXPENSIVE FOR THE SAM SOUND FORMAT THAT U WILL FIND & MOE IN THE FANTOM G6. FUCK WIT THE FANTOM MY NIGGA!!..IM TELLIN U TRUST ME!

  • I had to buy all 3 motif xs fantom g and M3 to finally decide on the motif, the fantom G is all show no go!

  • i know its a long time ago... but... -_- FANTOM G!!!! ALLLLL THE WAYYYYY

if u love the motif sound... just get the rack... or upload the sounds to the G

  • Korg Kronos

  • G6 is the best for you

  • G6 bro!!

  • If you're comparing workstations you should check out our StudioBLADE keyboard workstation. Its built around a Windows 7 PC and can do more than any other workstation for less money. Our keyboards have up to 10 inputs for instruments, vocals or any other audio source, support for 2 additional monitors, and can be expanded with any Windows compatible software or plug-ins. Not to mention the ability to customize your control surface to work the way YOU want. Check out the videos on our channel!

  • anytime fantom dude.... else go for Korg Oasys... bt dnt ever compare yamaha n Roland....

    cheers !!

  • I have got a lot of keyboards, even ketron audia...i use fantom g7 the most...in the motif XF are arppegios synths and arppeggios pads very impresive and some pianos, other is lame...The best keyboard in the market right now for combine is tyros 4 from yamaha and fantom g...both keyboards, you have to update...

  • Just got the Fantom G6 this week. I was also burdened with this choice.......with the Roland...you know you are getting a kick ass top of the line workstation with endless potential w/ software additions... but .... I believe the Motif has more memory and storage with a few great innovations. But all in all, the G6 is stll the Cadillac of synth workstations right now. Also, more available tutorials and software available to the G6.

I love it. Its hard to figure out...good luck

  • Yes go with the Fantom G8 it will blow you away what you can do with it.

You can do transitions from one efecct to the other without effects tails like

on other machines. they can't do that. Smooth transitions.

  • I have a fantom and the RPS function for playing patterns and the sampler is fantastic. The sequancer is not hard to get use to and when you do it will blow your mind!!!!!!!

  • Buy Korg Oasys.........it's the boss. If its too costly for you then go for Motif XF.

  • Get u a open labs that's all I have to say bout that which I own all of them neko or Miko is the best I also have a Roland rs9 synth but motif is the better choise, but Roland does have good sounds but nothing compares to open labs!!!! The best of the best!!!

  • YamaKorg Maybe you not have ears, i have home korg m3 and roland fantom g8 but roland g is much better

  • motiff xs rules for me.....love the way it's easy to layer and control volumes real easy for instruments!! best keyboard for playing live for me and that's all i ever want to do,,,im so over recording and just want to perform!! the motiff performs better cause i tried both.

  • I've got a Motif6 and my buddy has a Fantom X6. Do this think this would be a good trade?

  • So, have you decided yet which one you're gonna buy? Have you bought either ?

  • If your gona this amount of money of those keyboard I suggest u get a open labs neko instead fanton g6 n yamaha xs6 don't stand a chance n if u want to spend another $2000 u can get 100 vst ur total will prob be $5000 but u won't regret it neko is the best equitment out right Now don't miss out

  • roland G6 = no computer, no soundcard, no vst's, no cubase/logic/or nuendo.

it's already build in the G6,

  • All I can say is I've been working with Keyboards for over 20 years,,,The FANTOM G6 is not only the best its the only keyboard you'll ever need,,the other boards dont have a chance,,

  • These two keyboards has a good voice and effect quality.

in terms of PIANO,LEAD,STRINGS,SLICER ill recommend 4 Roland fantom.

for ORGANS,Elec. PIANO, and ACOUSTIC GUITAR, Yamaha motiff is the best.

  • These two keyboards has a good voice and effect quality.

in terms of PIANO,LEAD,STRINGS,SLICER ill recommend 4 Roland fantom.

for ORGANS,Elec. PIANO, and ACOUSTIC GUITAR, Yamaha motiff is the best.

for your style of music ill recommend 4 you to have roland....

Roland has the most good and jazzy beats, that can apply in RNB,hiphop and Rap.. I hope it will help you. But if your to ask me...ROLAND is the best KEYBOARDS among other keyboards..

  • why have one when you can have 2 at twice the price

  • Fantom G6 is better

  • @SuperRobby321 Fantom G is better at what? Not quality of sounds. Not easier to learn. Drums on the G don't come close to The Motif, unless you tweak them or run through some external hardware, Motif drums have punch right out the box. They are both great boards but until you experienced both of a period of time, how can you say G^ is better?

  • @teacee actually i own the Roland G6 and the my friend has the motif HE even says that the G is better quality of sounds

  • @SuperRobby321 Depends on what kinda of sounds you are looking for, It's all about getting the board that may best for your need and productions, like I said I just sold my X6, which was nice the G6 has the best screen, but a lot of the sounds didn't suit my need, so its all about preference, as far as quality Motif has higher quality sounds which is a fact, but to each his own.

  • @teacee About the sounds That you say the motif has better quality thats Your opinion but everyboyd elses opinion that ive heard looking online say that the roland has better quality

  • I think that deciding whether to get the motif xs or fantom g depend you the type of features that you are looking for and the quality of sounds. If you are look for more of a DAW type keyboard with sampling, pads, phantom power, big screen, and quality sounds go fantom g. But for you are looking for vocoder, appegiators, good sounds, sequencing, and sampling go motif xs. I would suggest visiting a local music store to demo some of the sounds on each keyboard and download their manuals.

  • For composing I would get the fantom, it's the best for this matter of all keyboards out there. The piano sounds are also great. Chances are that Roland will make an ARX-expansion board with only piano (kind of like a v-piano LE or like the K-RD700GX1). Synths are OK, but not as good as on the Motif. For acoustical sounds organs and synths I would get the Motif. For making beats I would get the fantom

  • I play the rock music live- I would choose the M3 , because it is only the one of these three synths which can compete with the distorted guitars in the heavy band.

  • r&b TRUST ME ROLAND G IS THE BEST YOU CAN MIX 16 SOUND IN ONE BUILT IN FANTOM FOR YOU CONDENSOR MIC OR GUITAR OR BASS AND YOU CAN TWEEK YOUR SOUND THE ONLY BAD THING IS YOUR PAYING 3000 FOR THE KEYBOARD $500 EACH FOR THE SUPERNATURAL EXP BOARD $120 FOR THE 1 GIG MEMORY AND $40 FOR THE USB STICK ALL TOGETHER CLOSE TO 4500 OR MORE IF YOU DONT HAVE A SEAT AND STAND OR STUDIO MIC BUT OTHER THEN THAT I LOVE IT

  • @samoapower702 theres no such thing as the best keyboard. Each keyboard has their own strenghts and weakness.

  • if your a gospel musician and need a live instrument for church go with the MOTIF... but for production, tracks the motif doesnt even come close to matching up.. But i always tell people u have to sit down with both keyboards and see which one works for u

  • Get the mv 8800 and a cheap keyboard. Or go with the Motif!

  • Chords in that song are the same as 'Rent' by the Pet Shop Boys!

  • sounds are in the ear of the beholder, what u like i may not like, what i like u may not like.go with what sound good to you, roland has a very clean sound and yamaha has a very warm sound.

  • roland is the best n got better tones.............yamaha is tryna be like roland ,they gt no were near roland.

  • When i saw your type of genre you made, i instantly knew, Roland Roland Roland, dont go near Yamaha if you want an outcome sounding like a weak pop song. Roland all the way.

  • There is you answer. get the fantom, and later if you want those great yamaha sounds get a motif rack off the internet. I sold my motif xs (not that i didnt like it) and i will by the G6.

  • Let me make it easy for you - I have both!! I have the Fantom G6 and the Motif rack XS. If I close my eyes and played both keyboards, I would most definitely choose the MOTIF!! The sounds are so rich and realistic that you think that you are actually playing a real instrument. Now, What I like about the fantom is the functionality. It's got skip-back sampling, pads, and the list goes on!! The sounds, let me say the acoustic ones, are straight boo boo! If I had one choice, I would pick the MOTIF!

  • Fntom The Best

  • Comment removed

  • I have 30 years of synth experience. I have tried out many, bought & sold... For what you want to do hands down I would buy a Korg M3 with the Radias card. The Korg sounds just as good as the Yamaha. Korg also has can get that aggresive phat sound. Check it out.

  • It's not the question which one is better. Both are extremely well made and came up with a lot of features many hobby musicians will never use in their entire life.

The question here can only be, which one of the two does fit better according to your individual needs.

I'd say, if you are more about industrial kind of sounds and really hard beats, then I'd prefer the Roland Fantom G, but for music in general and by quality of sound, I'd prefer the Motif XS, however, that's just my opinion.

  • this is like flstudio vs reason 1 has better sounds but the other better sequencer

  • Fantom handz down! just the raw processing power alone gives you all effects , skip back sampling , chopping and looping right in the box , resampling not to menting a comercial finished product , sequencing is just bananas easy , the xs is more geared towards ..jazz , ethnic , gospel type music ..hip hop , ipod ringtone music all FANTOM!!

  • The Fantom is better for electronic (your) type of music. The Motif is better for acoustic types of music such as rock, country, jazz, etc.

So I would recommend the Fantom.

  • fantom all DAY!!

  • motif xs all the way...check my youtube channel to hear what's possible with this workstation

  • motif xs

  • I HAD to buy a motif XS a korg m3 and fantom g.. to decide that nothing beats motif xs.. they are all great keyboards but sound wise yamaha impressed me the most.. also is so much pratical.. the the other 2. .but don't take only opinions.. get your touch to some guitar center or any music shop and check them out.. peace and good luck.

  • Fantom G great keyboard!!!!

  • I purchased FG by the Roland brand, my experience with FX (that its better), and good look... What a deception... Horrible sound (Its beaten by Motif XS fom 5/10), buggy and squared OS (I purchase on the first versions). Be warned. Dont purchase by brand, looks and opinions, TESTE IT! As much you can putting the 2 side by side close your eyes and you will see the difference between them.

  • For me its really easy: I have both. Now only Motif XS. Not only the presets, like performances, voices, the samples for them, its usable... Fantom G dont have a single good piano, the sequencer its better, yes, substitute a Daw, NO. So whats the point?. My experience with Fantom G: 1 happyness on purchasing 2 when selled. Motif have a lot of libraries, that solved my problem, with outstanding pianos, guitars, strings, etc. etc...

  • Yeah. I found the motif to be outstanding with accoustic and rock styles but the fantom IS better for hip-hop dance techno etc. I wish yamaha and roland would unite on this and produce a killer keyboard.;;)

But anyone trying to decide should try both for at least thirty minutes each.

  • When you like good presets: buy a Motif XS. If you love to program sounds and a very easy to use sequencer which could almost replace a PC with DAW software: buy the Fantom-G

  • Yamaha XS: Best sound, Very Difficult SEQ to learn.

Roland Fantom G: Average sound, pretty screen. Difficult SEQ and sampling.

Korg M3: Great Sound (almost as good as Yamaha), Super easy to use.

  • thanx, ill definatley look into the korg m3.

  • @YamaKorg you saying roland fantom g has average sound..:D..you dont know nothing about workstations.:D..yamaha has a good sound.roland fantom series has a refined clear sound.korg series even m3 or pa series has so weak sound.I have fantom G6 motif xf6 and korg m3.before this set up I had fantom X8 motif xs7 and korg triton extreme.let me tell you I'm in the music production business..:D..

  • @ydohakan I do, and it is average! Now I'm waiting to try out the Kronos when my local dealer gets one in, but I'm not holding my breath.

  • @YamaKorg kronos sucks.I prefer M3.but I will not to buy any korg anymore I'm selling my M3.what kind of business are you in?you are talking so sure about the differences between boards.how much experience do you have in music production?

  • @ydohakan How can you say the Kronos sucks? Do you have one? I’m speaking from experience when I commented on the Fantom G, I have a G6 and the only thing I really like about it is the feel of the keys and the screen. I’ve been in the production business around 22 years, TV commercial sound tracks, radio ads, corporate videos and studio keys. I take the synth /workstation technology seriously as it needs to be flexible and worthy of use for professional music production so I do my homework.

  • My Personal opinion for you would be to seriously consider a Korg M3 (Yeah it looks a little ridiculous) but it has fantastic sound and it way easier to program than the Yamaha or Roland units.

  • Greetings, I have a Motif ES, Fantom G and Triton Studio. I find the Fantom looks pretty and expensive yet its not as versatile as the older Korg Triton studio. Both the Triton and the Fantom have tons of sounds but only a few actually are useable. Yamaha seems to

have a much better sound quality and less sample noise when recording. Cont

  • If you are more impressed with looks over function, get the fantom, if you want a workstation that has a great selection of amazing sounds, get the motif. the fantom is all show and no go. The fantom g sounds are the same as the fantom x, with less expansion capabilities. The motif is the most expandable workstation in existence, best drums and acoustic sounds, features over 6000 sound specific arpeggiators , and won the 2009 workstation of the year award. The fantom sounds like reason presets.

  • if you want a good workstation wid awesome sounds and a kick ass sequencer...go wid a FANTOM!! i have both fantom and motif...ever since i got my fantom my motif has a fat layer of dust on it.

  • thanx man, i am starting to learn a lot more about the fantom so i might get that. thanx.

  • @sikhbeatz518 same here!!

  • @sikhbeatz518 I had the Fantom X6 and G6, pads are the worst for drumming, you better off using the key, great for hip hp and some R&B, The G has the best looking screen, but a lot to learn not for the faint at heart if you want to use all the features will take some time. Now that I sold the Roland Fantoms, went with the Motif XS6. Excellent sounds the best, 8 layered higher quality, easy to learn, works with my DAWS as a controller with a usb without any problems, Pro Tools, Logic, Motif Wins

  • @teacee Hey man ur 100% right. The fantom is cooler but doesnt close the quality for the motif xs

  • @sikhbeatz518,

i am not sure if this is still the case, but these are the advantages I see the Fantom has over XS: a whole more sounds and just as good, bigger screen, better DAW, more hands on controls than the XS, drum pads (which the XS does NOT have and are important for your style of music), better synthesizer editing capabilities, better and more intuitive interface of the software....and last but not least, better looks! :D There are more people using Fantom for ur musical style than XS!

  • @sikhbeatz518 Couldn't disagree more :-) I also have both of them, but the fantom sounds are FAR worse..

  • @sikhbeatz518 I have both as well and I am very disappointed that roland doesn't have more ARX expansions for the G series! That makes it suck to me..

  • Good question !!!

  • I produce in the same genre but i'm all software cause it's just easier that way for me! The Motif xs is dope keyboard make no mistake but it's better to cop the Fantom G and later on get a motif rack to compliment it! There's just so much you can do with the Fantom that you can't with the motif! So when it come down to features the Fantom is next to none! IMHO the ARX sounds surpass the XS!

  • Thanx man

  • @JAYEKUSHtv thats a dam good idea. I can get a motif rack online real cheap.

  • Hip Hop and R&B you ask? Well Roland hands down! The Fantom G is perfect for that genre of music! You have a plethora of great sounds! Great sampling features! A huge color screen and a GUI that functions just like a DAW and the mouse makes it a breeze to learn! Of caorse you have the drum pads, chord memory, great support! The list just goes on and on! I spent a little less than 3 hours with the G6 and man I had that thing down pact for the most part! The Fantom is very user friendly!

  • Thanx for the info.

  • definitively Yamaha

  • by the way i jast get my motif xs8 today . wish you the same day but with your lovely workstation .

  • thanx

  • Motif !!!

  • Fantom !
