Daly seems more amused than normal by Mr. Montgomery. I just watched June Bride in which he starred with Bette Davis. It was very interesting to see because I had recently listened to an interview with Elizabeth in which she talked about her own friendship with Bette Davis and how her father and Bette didn't get along at all. But they managed to mask their dislike pretty well, June Bride is a very pleasant comedy from 1948, also has Mary Wickes and Faye Bainter in it.
Mr. Montgomery and my father served together during WWII aboard the U.S.S. Columbia (a light cruiser) and saw action in the south Pacific. Montgomery and my Dad received their Bronze Star medals for the same battles. Although they weren't close friends, Dad said he was "a good guy".
One of the great ones. He was so versatile at both drama and comedy. A good one to watch is Night Must Fall where he plays a psychotic killer opposite Ros Russell. Then do the screwball comedies like Mr and Mrs. Smith.
What a class act. You can see where his daughter, Elizabeth Montgomery got her sparkling and bewitching eyes. He was so great in "Here Comes Mr. Jordan"..and was one of Hollywood's staunchest Conservatives.
Favorite R.M. Film... (1941') ...Here Comes Mister Jordan- which laterwas re-done (1978) as Heaven Can Wait...I prefered the earlier R.M. version....He was very distinctive acting Yes he had a profound influence on the Hollywood machine regarding his Screen Actors Guild - Administrative office title ...
He used that tough guy Brooklyn accent in RIDE THE PINK HORSE--one of many films he directed AND starred in. I loved the laugh when he was asked about the Army--of course he was an officer in the NAVY during WWII.
On all these shows, the guest and panelists often have trouble hearing what each are saying. They must have bad acoustics in the studio. In fact, the WML posted with Frank Lloyd Wright mentioned something about this.
yeah that's true, I read something like that too. Dorothy sits farthest away and she really had a hard time. And at times the mystery guest can't hear what the panel is asking also. Sometimes when the mystery guest is trying to disguise their voice, they try a little too hard and then they really can't be heard.
Actor political-activist Robert Montgomery is the father of Actress-political activist Elizabeth Montgomery. Elizabeth played Goodson-Todman's highly-entertaining word game show "Password" with the very best of them. Elizabeth Montgomery never appeared as a WML panelist or mystery guest, and that remains one of WML's big losses.
I'm sure you know that actor and political activist Robert Montgomery and actor and political activist Elizabeth Montgomery, his daughter, were on quite opposite sides of the spectrum politically. Robert, a Republican, was media advisor to Dwight Eisenhower. Elizabeth was a critic of the Vietnam War in the 1960s and a narrator of such documentaries as "Coverup: Behind the Iran Contra Affair."
Robert Montgomery was one of several actors who began on the left and moved to the right as they became more wealthy. Several of them served as president of SAG, including Reagan and Heston. Montgomery was a founder of SAG along with his great friend Jimmy Cagney, another who started out as a new dealers but became a conservative Republican by the 50's.
@44032 I don't know if they shifted their political focus because of wealth. I think it had more to do with the great changes that the party when through. That's why the terms 'left' and 'right' are so arbitrary. It's constantly changing.
Unfortunately, today's people do not know Robert Montgomery as well as he should be. AMPAS nominated him for best actor in years dominated by Spencer Tracy and Gary Cooper. He had a great drama anthology TV program in the 1950s and became the first TV adviser - director to a president. He makes the modern presidential media advisers look like hacks. Oh wait . . . they are.
They seem to have missed that big clue early on about it being a "quiz show in the rough."

A wonderful actor, largely forgotten now, I think., which is a shame. He was skilled as well as very attractive. Thank you for posting this clip.

So what Peter did say instead of shoewax? I simply can't catch it...

Peter asked about shoe wax, but the sponsor of the guest's TV show was a floor wax company.

The great basketball coach, Bob Knight's full name is Robert Montgomery Knight. His mother named him after the actor as she was a big fan of his.

Robert Montgomery was superb in Private Lives, as was Norma Shearer with whom he costarred. A classic film.

He did it all. The juvenile in the '30's, the hard boiled detective in the 40's and directing and producing on TV in the '50's. A brilliant guy.

Strange questions:
Do you have anything to do with eating or drinking?
Are you a living American entertainer?
Do you have anything to do with shoe wax?
I think he should have said that he was an American and an entertainer but was deceased.
