This is sad that they want to modify it, but the genome could be used to cure hunger in regions dependent not just on wild rice but common white rice.
Do you even realize that "white" rice is manufactured? STRIPPED of 99% of it's nutrients to give it long shelf life?
FORGET GMOs! You have drunk Monsanto's Kool Aid! Unleashed upon the earth, like a Pandora's box, they are very likely to compromise all plant life - and quite possibly starve the people of the world.
calm down. People living in regions that depend on white rice grow it them selves. they need all the help they can get, lets say golden rice? Golden rice is a gmo that does the exact opposite of what you just said, it synthesis beta carotene and vitamins for people who cant get them any other way than rice. Organic foods can currently only feed a little more than 2/3 of the world. Two billion people will not disappear in order to have people eat organic foods.
You can't convince me of the "superiority" of "golden rice." I have read "Seeds of Deception" and have a copy of "Genetic Roulette."
IF GMOs were such a Godsend, why have over a 1,000 Indian farmers committed suicide when the GMO COTTON they were convinced to plant by AgriBiz SCHILLS (like you?) FAILED and put them into irreparable debt?? The only "Gold" in golden rice is the profits that GMO "pushers" intend to garner when they have "cornered" the seed market, and DESTROYED bio-diversity!
I dont know what there is to be convinced of. Golden rice has more vitamins, that is a fact. A humanitarian effort to bring these crops to underdeveloped nations is not for profit. I dont care what books you have. Majority of scientists believe these crops could help people. I will not throw my trust into the hands of the creator. Your so called creator lets people starve. I trust not in this.
Like doing my master's thesis on it? I think I know a little more than you. You buy to heavily into the two books you own, which tipped you into this blind proclaiming of conspiracy.
Don't tell me organic is perfection when there are people starving. These crops evolved to service themselves, now we let them serve us. Your creator created more people than food, we are fixing that. Earning my genealogy major from Columbia means I know a little more about this type of thing than you.
hell ya, why not take that away too, we took every thing else away from them. naw, that was sarcastic sry but i agree with no more science!! wild rice is great, and you who do all the work to prep it is highly commended from me. thank you. lets please live as one thank you. you can write a bad post for what i said in the begening, but i wish that never had happend to a great people such as you. i was being sarcastic at me the white man, not me personally, but what the past has done.
On the res I live on. We can only harvest it By Caneo. The band members won't have any motors on the lake at all. Boise Forte Reservation (Pernounced Boys Fort)
I just read about the harvesting of wild rice in a book called "Woman of the Boundary Waters" by Justine Kerfoot. How awesome to find this on YouTube!
It is amazing how much we take the food we eat for granted in modern society until we learn to appreciate the work and the love involved in gathering and preparing it from its source. Food then becomes about nourishment, healing, spiritual fulfillment.
It is sad that science is trying to take this sacred food away from the Native Americans.
