  • I'm curious. In this recording at 5:45, I hear mass pandemonium on the chimes. It sounds awesome and blends in with the chaotic nature of the ending perfectly, but It's not written into the chime part. Ticheli's written chime parts like that before [Angels in the Architecture chorale, anyone?], but it's not in the music or the score at all. I'm just curious as to why they have it in this version.

    <3 this piece.

  • @STApercussionkid It's actually more around 5:37

  • @STApercussionkid The reason why this recording is different from the score is because Dr. Ticheli conducted this performance, and given the unique talents of our Band, he personally asked for the extra chimes to be added to give more vibrancy to the ending.

  • @nllarsen Ah. I understand, thank you! And might I say, this is the best recording I have heard.

  • Love the Horn part at the end 5:42.

  • Last movement of my freshman field show :'D gosh now im a college freshman missing band

  • @WaltersQuincy you obviously have no taste of music.

  • Epic :D

  • Cats. Icepicks. Anyone? :)

  • God this makes me nostalgia so hard

  • 5:42

  • middle line b natural, rip up an octave, pop up half step to a c.

    B^^^b------c

  • love this piece, we're playing it at my high school's, challenging but fun :D

  • This is my favorite! we played this last year for our spring concert, then at a marching contest we saw Burkner HS play this piece for part of their show and i absolutely freaked haha. Playing it for UIL hopefully :) i play Horn. Our part is amazing. Especially the end :)

  • what is the notes at the end for the horn?

  • so true!!!!!!

  • We are doing this for our marching band show. I hope we don't have to march 5/8 that would look ridiculous.

  • Good luck. We did this for a concert. It was really difficult.

  • its actually not that hard compared to the other song we are playing. (To tame the perilous skies)

  • If you play the whole thing the right way it would be unbelievably hard.

  • It might look pretty good if you march the rhythm the trombones play there

  • you're probably at a halt. xD or it's not written in 5/8. xD

  • It ended up being a hold.

  • Are you from Burkner HS?

  • playing this for our marching show =3

  • Mr San Luis wants us 2 play this 4 UIL. I really like the piece, but im kinda nervous, he let us sight read it and it seems quite complicated. We are a middle school band.

  • i am playing this with the tanglewood wind ensemble this summer, it should be pretty incredible

  • yeah, thiso piece pretty much kicks a ton of ass. :D played it on bari sax

  • very brisk recording. good nonetheless, i just like to hold onto the notes more.

  • This was conducted by Dr. Ticheli himself in this concert. This is the tempo he picked to rehearse us and have us perform at.

  • very good recording. played this junior year on alto sax. such a fun part to play

  • This is definitely my favorite of Tichelli's works. Not just this movement, but all of them : ) I played this my Junior Year in High School and i will never forget it.

(I play Bari Sax by the way.)

  • wow that was great!we're playing this as well,& we sound pretty good, but im sure it would sound so much better if we took at this tempo.

  • oh my gosh, i know! we're playing it so much slower and it sounds good, but this tempo is crazy cool.

  • I'm playing this in my schools Sym I and I am a bit disappointed. Obviously part of music selection is picking something learn-able, but this just happens to be something thats not to my taste. Respectable music yes, but not what I'm into.

^^; I'm much more of a "Symphony" Symphony type, the kind we are all familiar with for full orchestra.

  • i played this my Sophmore year of high school I can't forget this song. Good times ^_^

  • oh my goodness! i absolutely love this!

it is amazing:) i played it last year, my freshman year, and i definitely will not forget it...it was my favorite piece ever! and it has so pretty intense flute parts(i play the flute). my absolute favorite part to play was from 4:31 to the end. i love it!!! :) and i love the chorale, thats another one of my favorite parts!

  • epic song!

this was are opener for our 08 show it was awesome!

  • omg i played this song my freshman year of high school. it was an amazing experience. i will never forget it bc when our band director said we were gunna play it i kinda freaked out... it is totally a hardcore piece. :)

  • lol yeah we're using this in our show this year too

  • we play a version of this in out marching band and it is so much fun!

  • We played this piece at Interlochen. It was so fun! DDRfreak, that was a really interesting fact about symbolizing the abyss and the shooting stars.

  • We're playing this in MY high school symphony band as well. It's one of my favorite pieces of music. It's infectious.

  • We're playing this song in my Hgih School's Symphony Band and I absolutley love this song. I LOVE the part at 2:02 (I believe its 103 in the music) where the brass does a lyrical, chorale type part (which was originally a chorale written by Bach) while the high trumpets and the woodwinds have these random fast notes. They're sopposed to symbolize the black abyss of space (the chorale part) and the shooting stars everywhere (the random fast notes). Awesome song.

  • Thanks for the comment! We actually coupled this movement of the Symphony with Bach's chorale "Who Puts His Trust In God Most Just" arranged by James Croft, including a four-part harmony sung by the Band. It was a ton of fun to play!

  • Im in awe! What an awesome job! I'm a middle school student, and were playing this piece this year. I'm very nervous, because I hear the double and triple tounge in the trumpets. (I am one) but otherwise it seems extremely fun to play! Thanks for giving an awesome recording to lift my spirits!

  • ugh lucky

i hate my middle school band. I love playing the clarinet and i'm really good at it but i have to go to this school where the band sucks. I wish I could play something like this

  • I get to play this at my school, IT IS REALLY HARD, I don't think a middle school band could ever play this.

  • I think you'd be surprised...

While far from the level of the average middle school band, and even pushing some high schoolers... I know some middle school players who consistently outplay high schoolers.

  • WOW! Incredible job! I'm a Luther College alum and we also played this piece for my final concert (Japan and China Tour) in 2005... it's a pain, to say the least! I wish the bassoons were more prominent (being that I am one) but i'm a diva that way! Well done!!

  • Thank you so much! It was an incredible piece to play, and is still one of my favorites. This is the second time we've played it while I've been in The Band (this time we pulled it for the performance with Dr. Ticheli as the conductor). Please check out the other videos that I have if you'd like to hear more of The Concordia College Band! Thanks again!
