I was able to quickly pull up some of these old videos. Wow, what a talent he had -- really. Sure is easy to make fun of him, but when you step back you can easily see that he was,in fact, a real talent. Your comment about meating him in 1988, just hit home. Agree with PCM, Tiny Tim really was a genius, in his own way. Among other things, he was virtually a walking & singing encyclopedia of American music.

Regarding this particular song, I seriously doubt it was intended as a cautionary anthem for the modern Church of Warminglology. And as to Wendy's comments, I'm not familiar with any of his songs "poking fun" at religious belief; he was in fact a dedicated Christian, despite his acknowledged shortcomings living as a Christian.

Tiny Tim was in the first generation of "green" thinking people. But more than that, he pulled off poking fun at religious beliefs without being mean or vicious as I see in lots of FB comments today. I prefer his way of humor as a technique to converse if one doesn't agree with someones beliefs as opposed to hostile bitter remarks. But...that takes a little more creativity LOL!

He was doing a promotional for an art festival called Artsplosure, and as I came out of the building...there he was, all by himself. We talked for just a couple of minutes. A sensitive, introspective soul that I don't think I had the capacity to understand at the time. It was a moment I've never forgotten. His life was a bittersweet affair.

I'm old enough I remember Tiny Tim when I was a kid, and the Christmas I got his record "In Concert from Fairyland!" I was devastated when I heard he'd died, he had been doing small concerts and I missed one that was very near me one year; I really hoped to see him live. Anyway, the more I've read about him, the more fascinating a man he is. He really was a musical genius -an eccentric one of course!- and if he has ever been surpassed it is only by Weird Al ( which I do not concede.)

@gerardilove i was lucky! he was so sweet. my bf had brought his yuke & they did a duet. he sang to me. this was the late 70s & he was on the road, doing small gigs in small towns. his voice -- such a magnificent range -- too bad he was famous only for his falsetto. reading these comments is a little sickening -- he was not high, not drunk, just ttotally cool.
