  • Before his first move I would love to hear what he was thinking. Here it is, the first move of a long career. Wow, thanks for sharing!

  • to all the dumbshit comments wondering why shows the face and not the moves. The fucking moves have been documented a million times you can download and play them back at your leisure. Here we see his face, expressions, eyes. It is a rare insight into the personality of the greatest player. Thanks to the uploader for posting.

  • Some people are SO quick to think of him as a "loser" in this video but forget that he actually WON! this tournament. As an amateur chess player i wouldnt mind beating 7 players of 2700+ and lose he last game. I used to think fischer was the greatest but after studying 1000 of garrys games ive realized he is THE GREATEST of em all.

  • jjjaajajaja y para k madres le kieren ver la cara si lo imponte son las jugadas

  • what a stupid video:|

  • now I understand why Fisher flipped out. How could you play a game under those conditions.............if you ever played a game over 3 hrs you would know what Im talking about

  • seen enough of kasparovs nostrills, wellaquinted ty vm... how do we actually see the match progress? just curiosity

  • I love how the most chess players put their hands on their face, such as scratching their nose, put both hands on their faces.

  • God, I feel stupid. I actually sat here watching Kasparov's face for four minutes. Jesus, Christ, give me a break. We didn't get to see a single move!

  • @Astrobrant2 yeah you really are stupid.

  • @damthatriver09 Educate me. Why should I feel stupid for expecting something other than 4 minutes of Kasparov's face? The title said his last game. I thought there might be something related to the GAME. Remember? Chess? Not 4 minutes of someone's face.

  • @Astrobrant2 Your logic is incorrect.

  • the cameramen are only allowed to take pictures the first 10 minutes of the game, therefore they have to get a good shot in this time - thus the insane amount of camera flashes.

  • lmao at the comments

  • Those camera guys were simply ridiculous. This isnt a boxing match this is chess for christs sake. If i was either topalov or kasparov i would have stopped playing and asked them all to leave.

  • kasparov

  • Was this a serious game or just some charity event. The cameramen, camera flashes and camera noises are just ridiculous! When Bobby Fischer became champion in Iceland in 1972 he'd walk out of the room if a cat sneezed in Brazil!!!!!!

  • Kasparov is probably thinking about this being his last game. a very emotional time for sure

  • if i was kasparov id slap the shit out of the camera man and everyone who kept taking pics and flashing and makin noise

  • Student: "Master, what is the most complicated game man has created?"

    Master: "Chess."

    Student: "What about Go?"

    Master: "Go has always existed."

  • Too focused on Kasparov's face. I want to make clear that I love and admire all the chess player in the world. I'd rather watch the board .. ten dollars in Brazilian currency for this video.

  • topolev is old enough to know that it is required to stand up when you shake sb's hand. It is a part of good upbringing anyway.

  • @Jakobinzrewolucji

naw , no reason why topalov would stand up''' but i guess if had known it was kasparovs last game it would be

    different

  • OMG... how can Kasparov play with a camara in his face, a lot of flashes, people walking, talking around them... that looks so uncomfortable !.

  • gosh! no wonder chess is so unpopular these days.

  • did he have the title when he left?

  • I agree that the cameras and lights suck

  • Chess is a Gadame tough game i respect kasprov for being the best

  • Kasparov looks like Mourinho. Seriously in my eyes.

  • i like how kasparov takes his time

  • in the future they will probably hook up sensors to their brains and produce a live display of their thinking processes... imagine that.

  • slowly zoom in, slowly zoom out...that's all this video is.

  • i am like topalov i dont put my kngith on the side

  • So what notes are they taking? And why, oh why, was there no chess shown?

  • @jilloplo There not taking notes there writing there annotation

  • @adhdboy699

A bit of a chess newbie. What does annotation refer to here?

  • @jilloplo =) it is called algebraic chess notation which you should learn before tourneys etc. FOr example if i were to move the pawn in frontt of my king (as white) two forward i would write down the move number and then the letter and number so pawn kign would be 1.e4 look up chess notation online it is really nessacary to learn and eventually it comes to your mind easily

  • @adhdboy699

Annotation actually means the comments and analysis of a game or position by someone. Notation refers to the moves made. In the book The Six Power Moves of Chess and check out the video search it here on you tube.

  • what is wrong with all the cameramen at chess matches. I can't see where they're moving!!! I don't care what their facial expressions are!!!

  • @IThinkWereParkedMan0 If you want to see what there movign look at a pgn regular video is not for showing the moves

  • yeeeesss!!!! wtfffffffffffffffffff!!... this sucks! all the video seeing one person llooll !!!

    westing time!

  • too much photografs

  • it doesnt take too long to make the first move

  • lol , i love chess.

  • Topalov touching his beloved bishops before game :)

  • Mister Been (i.e. Kasprov) lost.

  • who won

  • Must be hard to concentrate with all those flashes

  • God's sake I was expecting to see his moves, not stare at him bored to tears waiting for his opponet

  • @onlokker

your a idiot , this video is perfect

although i will say kasparov looks a bit concerned and pissed off about something else

  • i bet u can

  • looks a little bit like Royce Gracie...idk

  • why are they toching all their pieces first?

  • Chess players like to adjust all their pieces before they start.

  • to make sure there's no headcrabs inside the pieces waiting to jump on their heads

  • oh, that actually makes sense, thank you. i'll be watching out for those too.

  • @freaky011 LOL because they are nerds

  • therefore u are bad.

  • wait, so kasparov like retired??

  • i like it when he put the watch on the table at every game

  • they will go away after the real game starts

  • These men are people with extremely high IQs. They're not like you and me.

  • Lol

I highly doubt they have extremely high IQs... Extremely high, to me, would be genius level

  • Chess grandmasters tend to have higher IQs because of their capacity for thought and their excellent memory. Kasparov is one of the best, if not THE best of the chess grandmasters, so he would clearly have a high IQ. I'm not a fan of his and I really don't like chess that much but it's not hard to notice a genius when you come across one.

  • Okay, I would say that if there were a test on all grandmasters their IQs would be above average. But you said 'extremely' high. That's just absurd. Now, I wouldn't say chessplayers have too good of a memory. Try solving a rubiks cube. That takes tons of memory. Lets just say, depending on how you solve it, if you want to be fast.. You must memorize or learn over 200 algs which consist of over 8 moves. Anyway, a genius in chess he is, but not altogether. Good day

  • I am not a professional but I can solve a Rubik's Cube and I have spoken to a chess player who told me that chess masters get better at chess by studying various situations and then remembering how to act based on what they did right or wrong during previous occasions. That DOES require quite a large capacity for memorization because, much like solving a Rubik's Cube, there are many possibilities on a chess board.

  • Okay, I am glad that we can come to an agreement. Maybe chess does require a better memory, but not such a memory where you memorize a unique board and 5 variations in 1 minute. xD It's not hard to remember something for which you have passion. But, I'm not denying it requires perhaps an above average memory. Also im not sure if IQ tests factor in memory.

  • I agree with you when you say that an IQ score is an inaccurate method of estimating someone's intelligence but I don' think that it is entirely insignificant.

  • lol what a tool,

    Topalov X kasparov

  • Long live the king!!!!!

  • Too bad he lost his last really serious game, although he will play a match with Karpov later this year, but at least he won the tournament.

  • Well, he didn't win in fact. He had the same number of points and wins as Topalov. But at the same time Topalov had won their face-to-face game. So, for justice, he should be named as the only winner, with Kasparov being at the 2nd place.

BTW, I think Kasparov will lose his upcoming match with Karpov. Garry hasn't had a strong practice for about 4 years, while Karpov is still playing, showing good reults. Also Kasparov's poltical activity will also distract him from training.

  • Good call on who was going to win xD . You clearly don't play many tournaments. Anytime there is a tie for first those players share the first place prize and recognition, unless there are some qualifying spots on the line.

  • "The above table gives the Sonneborn-Berger tiebreak results, which is normally used in round robin tournaments. In Linares another system was in place. Since both players have the same number of points, and the same number of wins (first tiebreak criterion), the winner is the player with most black wins. Kasparov won three games with black while Topalov had just one black win. That made Kasparov the overall winner in this tournament." from chessbase after the tournament.

  • You got me a bit wrong.

I know that due to the particular tournament regulations they both were legitimate winners.

I meant that Topalov should be recognized as the only winner only for the sake of justice. Since he had won a face-to-face match.

  • heh, I remember in one chess tournament, I was so anxious about my upcoming traps I was hoping my opponent would fall into, but I didn't want to give it away by staring at relevant pieces. So I'd purposely stare are pieces that had nothing to do with my traps, hoping my opponent would follow my gaze and possibly get an erroneous idea of what I was planning. You never know, but I sometimes look at what my opponent is looking at, in case I'm missing something.

  • dont hope for traps, thats not working

  • "Chess is mental torture."

  • Losing sucks! Tell me all about it.

  • it seems like the delay in the opening is to account for all the camera people wandering around on the stage. there must be some sort of contracted agreement that allows for some of this during an early segment of the game.

garry shows great class throughout this encounter, and represents the very heart of a champion.

  • wow three and half hours to move a pawn.

  • iv never seen a more intense video where someone just looks around 95 percent of the time, and its so captivating to watch

  • more like...just dazing off as your thinking all the possible moves about 10-15 moves ahead of your memorized gameplay

    its crazy how they think

ive seen GM Kramnik play in miami in some tournament and he took about 20 minutes for a good move that i thought of in like 2 minutes

but the facts he is adding up all the moves 10 moves ahead and i was just thinking of that one move and what my opponent might play, hthey analyze EVERY MOVE POSSIBLE, quite amazing really

  • Not so, my friend. While there is some computer-like calculation, there is more subtly in this. Kasparov said himself in many situations he finds it unnecessary to think beyond three moves in advance. Even those calculations would be applied to only a few lines.

  • I would love to show this to an acting class.

  • what are they writing? the moves ??

  • yes, they write their moves and opponents to study the game and later analyze everymove..my coach made me do that, to analyze my moves and errors i commited and practice the alternative moves, in order to not make the same mistake when im faced with the same problem

  • Thanks for your reply.

I have got another question.Does every chess Game have limited time?

  • usually it can be played 2 min 5min 15min or even up to 2 hours 2 hours has been the max time limit that in big tournaments they are given that time when you are into chess like this 2 hours isnt enough, i had one big tournament and i took about an hour 45 min for my game it can range but i havent seen GM's play more than 2 hours unless its for fun cuz if they had no limit i can move a pawn, and you can be like "ill be back sometime next week to move" lol
  • the coach who was kasparovs adviser lives in montville, nj i talk to him sometimes

  • not that stupid, hes used to it. he also knows the opening better than anyone, in which the click clicks will die down ;)

  • this is fkin stupid, u cant concentrate with all the click clicks and the cameras. sucks

  • Check this out!"Relapse" 2-player board game., Enjoy!

  • can any body can show the moves of this game,i will appreciate that too much!!!thank you

  • Kasparov The King Of Chess :P

  • They have usually 5 minutes to take photos. In those five minutes players play initial moves without thinking of anything else than "What memorized opening should I play today?"

  • 3:38 he wants to say: "what i'm doing here? I want go home!"

it's funny, one of the best players ever looks like somebody who can't concentrate

  • All of those expression indicate "Well, I have done my move as per my preparations, Topalov. Its your time to move.. It doesn't matter what you move but just make that one out of those possible stupid moves I have prepared". ;)

  • no se muestran las fichas

  • 3:10 pause it!

    funniest face expression ever...

    no definition

  • lmfao

  • I think it's a miracle that these guys don't get annoyed by all those flashes. I'd get more ticked off than Fischer did the first time he competed against Spassky.

  • Thats absolutely true...after seeing this way of game I will definitely like to take Fischer side....That was the game of the century while cold war time...and Media was crazy about every single thing related to it...in that Old era..the noise by camera would be worser than this game...Its way difficult to concentrate in such an important game...Fischer took right decision..for sure...:)..

  • just make sure no missing on chess piece, from Grand Master Indonesia.

  • why are they touching every chess piece before the game starts?

  • He is placing them in the centre of each square, it's really distracting when a piece is slightly off.

  • they were in the center.. these guys have some nervous problems hehe

  • They are not. Look at Topalov's Queen's knight for example. Chess is a game that involves spatial awareness, the pieces must be a standard size, a standard colour and in the proper position. Most tourney players begin by insuring that there pieces are properly place: it's quite normal.

  • So what if you decide to play pieces that arent exactly on the center as you play them? Sure would be a psychological advantage hehe

  • They should have little magnets that snap them into place.

  • mmmm... Face. I would like more game.

  • kasparov had too many things on his mind during the game, which is probably why he lost. anyway he won the title

  • What's the point of this? Topalov is a very good player hence a grand master, so, why be impolite by not showing the game?

  • This is an important moment in chess history and I am grateful that it was captured on video and posted on YouTube: the last game before Topalov grew a beard!

  • i think they only captured kasparov's face on video, nothing about the game itself, nor topalov was showed here

  • If you pay very very close attention, Fausto, you can see Topalov in the beginning of the video (just 40 seconds, from 0:25 to 1:05).

  • Kasparov tired of being a puppet of the russian jewish mafia and having to play prearranged games. He had a brilliant chess mind but it was never used once he got to high level. That is why he quit.

  • u r a genius.where did u dig out this info?i think i have one comment.WUHAHAHAHAHAHA, and a little one -- hahaha.

  • For god sake can u plz focus the camera on the game not only on his face, like we all understand that Kasparov sitting in that position like come on....

  • he is got 2.5 times more victories over Topalov

  • Kasparov won the tournament though, because he had more wins with black. At least he went off with a win.

  • Kasparov beat Topalov 15 to 6, with 17 draws. Thanks for the great video!

  • that is 9:0 Looks like " a smash down "

  • Sorry, I think my database is not complete... lol.

  • sucks that chess isnt a sport anymore..

  • topalov is the best nai dobriq prosto

  • Bobby Fischer POWERS!!

  • is that a camera goin off every 2 secs. can get quite annoying if i was playing

  • Kasparov has already beaten Topalov before, quite beautifully too, so it's ok. It's very hard to get motivated for a last game before a retirement. He won the tournament anyway and retired as a winner, so that's all that matters. Kasparov = the best!

  • thnx great!

  • Very good !

  • Bravo, Vesko!
