  • Oh how far Western civilization has declined. Hopefully after the country is sold to China someone will be kind enough to play one of these at the labor camps.

  • PLEASE get this insturment off the endangered insturment list! Have some tuned to Solfeggio scale, too!!!

  • What was the last glass armonica song?

  • I have to say, I want one of those if they are ever going to be manufatured :)

  • I have this music on my iPod!! The music is amazing!!

    Check out Thomas Bloch!!

  • thnx!

  • The people who founded this country have very little relation to the pawns and meat puppets that run it today.

Our populace is so dumbed down, that we'll never see an inventor, or a scientist, of even a doctor as president again.

  • Hate to break it to you, but Franklin, as cool as he was, was never a President. Highest post he had was President of Pennsylvania.

  • Franklin fucked prostitute he had a very sad life at times

  • @jordanlund

    He still owned.

  • @jordanlund so, he was better than most of the presidents anyway. So we should not care about our founding fathers becuase most weren't presidents? he founded the university of pennsylvania, helped with the control of electricity, invented the first fire fighting career, and did many other things. But because he wasn't president, they aren't that important....... shallow

  • @jordanlund Then why is he on the one hundred dollar bill?

  • @InTheirImage7 because he is a founding father

  • @TheGoombaLover wait? what are we talking about.. I wrote tha comment five months ago.. why did I ask that?

  • @jordanlund HOLY SHIT!! WE HAD A PRESIDENT?!?!?

  • @jordanlund He died before he could even be elected. asshole

  • @bubbabob90 Franklin died April 17, 1790. That's one year after we elected Washington. So, yes, he did live long enough to run for President, but chose not to. He was continually being elected President of Pennsylvania at the time.

  • @fuzzywzhe Get Ron Paul elected in 2012

  • What's the name of the piece at 4:20?

  • Thats Stars and Strips by composer John Phillips Sousa

  • That's Why is on $ 100 Bill.

    Genius !!!!!!!!

  • the reason im here is cause its almost colonial day at my school ugh!

  • Marie Antonette was at the same time and Franklin.Marie Atoinette was born in 1751 and Franklin introduced it 1761.

  • I want one :D and learn to play it too ya im pretty sure u crazy 1st to play the damned thing XD

  • This is wrong, Mozart wrote not only two pieces for the Glass Amronica>:(

I think there are perhaps four or five pieces for the Glass Armonica.

  • Okey - three pieces.

    Not two ;P

  • no.. There are four.. OH GOD...

  • Get it together, man.

  • hehehehe. three : )... I think

  • What was the song at 4:25?

  • Stars and Stripes Forever by Sousa.

  • Brilliant. The best bit is at 4:24 it sounds like a xylophone!

  • Video needs moar deinterlace...

  • Do they still use lead in the glass

  • In some, yes.

Lead is now used in making glass to make it more crystalline and shinny.

However, only a trace is used, low enough for use to drink water, although acidic and carbonated drinks, such as champagne and cola, will scrape the lead off, and is highly warned on the boxes and labels of those glass sets.

Mostly, lead is to make collector sets - not for drinking.

  • Thanks For the reply and not patronizing me I just wasn't completely filled in on it. Thanks

  • Never heard of lead crystal wine glasses?

Check your glass cabinet at home, and you're sure to find elaborately cut glass, most of this will have lead in it as it makes for a better glass.

  • Not better glass; in fact pure silicate glass is much harder.

They add lead because it is easier to work with (lower melting temperatures, due to lead), and causes the glass to appear more brilliant (again, due to lead).

and LOL? you should never pour wine (or any other acidic, alcoholic, or carbonated drinks) into lead glasses. Lead will leach, and much as 20ppm (although not much, but still can cause damage that can be prevented) could be consumed.

  • i'm watching this video in schoool right now

  • this insturment rocks!

  • I don't care how much one of these starts at in price. I want one and it is now my life goal to own one and learn how to play it... :D

    these are friggen cool!

  • Love this instrument!!!

  • Dragonforce should not be played ever, period.

  • "Dragonforce should not be played ever, period."

    agreed.

  • one or two dragonforce songs are good but the rest are shit... :P

  • Great instrument. And I have found many other nice videos on Youtube with this instrument played by a french musician called Thomas Bloch (just write his name and search). This guy also plays another ethereal instrument called onde Martenot (also on Youtube).

  • Thanks for putting this up! It's really fantastic... just another reason to love Ben.

  • i wish i could learn that . it looks so cool

  • The History Channel video mentions a CA glass company. In addition, the Wikipedia article says Finkenbeiner, Inc. of Waltham, Mass. makes them. I also saw & heard this for the first time at Dean Shostak's concert in Colonial Williamsburg last week and he mentioned that he had Finkenbeiner's make his.

  • What a wonderful instrument. If anyone knows where to get one,is selling or knows a site that makes them to order please get in touch.

  • Glass Harmonica Prices start at $7,165.00

    ...including shipping/travel case

I googled it and found that on

    finkenbeiner[DOT]com[SLASH]GLASSHARMONICA[DOT]htm

But its really an amazing instrument.

  • Thanks for your reply.I will check it out.All the best!!

  • What an informative video. I saw a musician from the Philadelphia Orchestra playing the glases version in New Orleans many years ago. Good to know about the evolution of it.

  • how thick is it? cause it needs to be kinda thin...

  • i must own one of those =|

  • how do you get crystal to ring I cant get it to work with a waterford bell that is 38 % lead. and it wont even squeek let alone ring

  • Wow! Ya learn something new everyday - I guess I learned about this rare and beautiful instrument today.

  • Amzing invent!

  • I saw a concert/demonstration of the glass armonica at Colonial Williamsburg a couple of years ago & bought CD's of the music. Both the sound, and the instrument, are very delicate. And beautiful!

  • $6,000 - Thats really cheap, I want a Viola da Gamba and they start at £8,000 ($15,843) and thats hardly worth playing. Its the old case of make my own! I suggest you research on bells as these bowls lack an S curve so actually sound awful, God alone knows what bell curved glass would sound like.

  • I can't hear that without getting goose bumps.

  • I'd really like to get this musical instrument off the musical instrument endagered list.

  • It's hard to find an armonica to try or practice on, but you might want to try an hydraulophone. The hydraulophone is very similar to the glass harmonica, except that hydraulophone also lets you play microtonally, i.e. you can "bend" each note of a chord independently, to make it sound even sadder or to express other fluidly flowing pieces. Search "hydraulophone" on YouTube to listen to what it sounds like.

  • I want one so badly - but they're over $6,000 dollars!!! I love rare instruments. Thanks for posting. Franklin rocked.

  • i agree i try that on my moms crystal glasses but it doesnt work
