  • the monkess are really good, the beatles are stull #1 but monkees right up there with them! older bands are so much better than the newer crap people listen to.

  • Thanks for posting this cool Monkee tune. Davy is cool , but it is great to see other singers ge the spotlight too. Awesome unusual Monkee song I always was impressed with.

  • James Brown would be envious of Mickey's moves....get down Mickey B)

  • Meh... I like the cleaner CD version. I think I'm gonna pop that in!

FYI It's their Greatest Hits album

  • I like the end of the 'alternate take' where micky keeps singing "Backdown-back-down-back-down....groovy...outta sight"

  • Back in the day, this was the track we all played instead of the A-side.

  • <3 this song

  • Very cool

  • Anyone know identities of the saxophonist and guitarist?

    Incredible number! Superb performance!

Aspiring pop artists should see this. Could many of them match it?

  • A song about attemped suicide. And people think the Monkees just sung still stuff.

  • Damn i remember this!! Aw shit....

  • Mickey Dolenz getting his James Brown on!!!!!

This is reason #6473 why the Monkees are, were and will always be dope....

  • He's doing a "live" vocal on the released version which was originally the B side of "Daydream Believer" if I remember correctly...this also opened an episode originally during the second season, usually of course, the songs were relegated to the end of an episode...just an FYI for and from a Monkees fanatic!

  • This song is great! The best *fake* band ever!

  • Man, try that song on karaoke night.

    Great Tune

  • I can almost sing along with it, I just need to work on the words more. I have the greatest hits CD and I listen to it pretty much all the time

  • @misamisa31 have a drink and youll get it

  • Great original promo

    thanks for posting this gem

    Bunyip

  • My fave of all the Monkees Micky!!!

  • i'm singing along like crazy hehe love micky =)

  • this guy has SOUL!...his version of "CRY" is really good!...his is my favorite

  • This is my funky Monkee JAM! Next...I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone.

  • He could play drums but even if he couldnt I dont care what you say, singing this song that good takes talent..Damm good

  • I love this song!!!! Mickey is great!!

  • Mickey was da bomb!!!

  • Mickey is not rapping, He is scatting, Ella Fitzgerald style.

  • Go Micky! One of my favorite Monkees songs.

  • My favourite ever was a bside song on one of the old 45s vinyl. I came across it when i was around 13 aqnd loved it the minute I heard it. You just made my night mate, Cheers

  • Anyone know the identities of the saxophonist and guitar player? Cat Anderson, I note, on the horn.

    Magnificent video! Performance is fantasttic.

    Thanks.

  • It's amazing to look at it today and remember The Monkees were considered untalented hacks at that time.

Compared to the "artists" of today The Monkees were brilliant.

Were they underrated or is it just that bad today...or maybe a combination of both.

  • I loved them. But you are right. they got 'no respect' back then. Really sort of cutting edge when you look back. They were the first music 'videos' . before that concept really had been thought of.

  • Groovy, homeboy was C walking ahead of his time

  • Cat Anderson blowin screech on the horn.

  • Cool ... thanks for that

  • I believe that's Bud Brisbois there & not Cat

  • you, sir, might just might be correct....sure sounds like Cat tho.

  • mickeys rapping - what year was this smooth he's trying to do a james brown dance

  • Something tells me 1967. Filmed in Florida, I'm told.

Let me know if I'm mistaken.

  • Ya definitely rap esque. Gotta love that Micky! He was great though on Gone Country this season. I missed most of it because I forgot he was on it.

I liked this a lot. Thanks for posting.

  • Just one amazing performance by Micky>believe he could goe so much futher then he did, he had talent & skills not like the singing of today, wow

  • This song just screams Super Bowl halftime!

  • Wouldn't THAT be cool!

  • Just love this - Another great track from the under rated Monkees

  • Yes. Today's prospective artists should be made to watch this performance. Perhaps they would learn a thing or two (although judging by the arrogance of some I doubt it).

Many would, however, remain as rank amateurs!

  • Classic song! I can't think any of today's singers who could give this number the same fervor and intensity that Micky did - and still can! I want his babies.

  • Micky Dolenz channels his inner James Brown.....

  • Let me qualify that, what I meant was "longer" career as in many more great recordings and performances as a singer beyond The Monkees years. Of course he should have been a a member of the group.

  • You know, there seems to be a lot of talent here that has gone unnoticed over the years. It's a shame that The Monkees was the apex of his career, I think Dolenz could have had a much longer career as an R&B or Jazz singer.

  • Wow! What a performance.

This was used in an episode of the TV series.

I haven't seen the performance in years.

How many of today's artists could attempt this number?

    iolani77

  • The BEST mmonkees song!

  • I remember listening to this 45 and my mother yelling at me because she thought I was playing it on the wrong speed. I guess she didn't believe he was actually singing that fast. LOL

  • The B-Side of "Daydream Believer" and it got many more spins in my house than the A-Side ever did.

  • Does anyone know where the hell to get the bass tabs for this song?

  • Let's see Eminem sing THAT!

  • F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C
