I think we were shooting some cloud 3 shot and some kent 4 shot. Prob whatever we had left in our blind bags haha. Modified and mid range chokes too. I like cloud but I really like kents and winchester supremes. Pattern moree effectively through my M2
@nickjohnson04 I use Black Cloud 4 shot for early season when the ducks arent decoy shy, then later i move to Black Cloud 2 shot. I havnt ever tried kent, does it pattern nicely because they r not the most expensive shells?
Nice video work Nick. If you find youreslf in Long Island NY, me and my guys can put you on some nice Scoter/Eider/Long tail hunting on us. We have a bunch of rigs to hunt off. I've been filming the hunts last year in High Def, but having a problem posting on youtube.. Mark (Kidcochiese on Youtube video)
Thanks cemensky. I agree, FFDP goes well with slaying some bills. Good luck hunting MN this year. I may up around the Bowstring area hunting bills and mallards this fall as well. We used to have a cabin on Big Sand.
@nickjohnson04 yeah me and a buddy of mine are pretty familliar with bowstring, did real good up there last year. was nice to see so many bills rafted up on the lake.
Well divers are often harder to kill than puddle ducks. Not too hard to bring down but they are tough and will dive if even the slightest bit alive. The guys were using 3 and 4 shot which was plenty but some of the shooting was behind the birds a little. Cripples like this happen sometimes especially with diver hunting but we never lost a bird.
@nickjohnson04 yeah i know that you guys shoot a lot but i didnt think about it much i hunt on a pond with about 2 inches of water so we shot em and send the dog out they try to dive but dont get anywhere...
Well every time I go out there, we just stay in a cheap hotel in the area we hunt. Saves money ultimately. All of the hunting is freelance and we never use guides up there. North, northwest and sometimes south of Devils Lake is prime time late October. Put some miles on the vehicle and do some scouting and it will pay off.
It is always very weather dependent but typically the time around Halloween is best. The last two weeks in October always seem to be solid for taking on some bills. Its strange though, they can be gone in a flash too with strong weather. Drive around, find a lake or pothole holding good numbers and put out about 2 dozen diver blocks at most. Shouldnt take much calling and hold on. The key is finding them in good numbers and intercepting their daily flight patterns.
We were just south of Devils lake on some private water. We got lucky because we hit the migration for the bills just right. They were absolutely everywhere.
U can shoot him out of the air but can't shoot em when their sitting in water? Nice video btw

Nice video and spread. It looks like you hunt quite a bit. You should invest in a dog. Seeing a good dog work is just as fun as the hunt. Keep it up
