It makes me sick to my stomach that anyone would actually try to defend Liko's actions. In this incident he acted completely belligerent and easily could have produced a license, sat quietly in his car and he would have been on his way. He ultimately shot and killed McKay, there are no excuses for these actions. Liko was obviuosly disturbed and had a mental sickness and the blame should fall on the system and parents for not recognizing this and dealin with it.

What civil rights were violated? I suggest you look at new hampshire laws that are applicable to this incident. I have, and I have seen no rights that were violated. Liko knows more about his rights than McKay? No. That is wrong. You are required to give your name, license and any other identification upon request of an officer. Liko refused to get into his car after McKay asked him to return. McKay calmly stated to return to his car, or be in McKays with handcuffs. Liko refused.

This is another order which he is supposed to comply with. He did not. McKay had the right to arrest him, yet he did not. Liko even resisted arrest, which is also a punishable offense. Earl Sweeney is the Director of the NH State Training Program. In the manual, The Public and Police, he cautions cops from putting themselves up on a pedestal in the community.  He goes on to say that this fosters an unbending attitude toward the public. He says this too often attitude makes officers unwilling to communicate properly with the public. He is addressing the problem with PO's attitudes.

WMUR showed the video to a former asst. attorney general. He says Liko could have prevented everything. Also, according to them, Liko was given 1 year in prison after he was taken in, ironically though, McKay asked the judge to go easy on him, and he received only 15 days in jail.

Liko was being uncooperative. The officer was obviously called to a scene where a suspicious vehicle was. Someone nearby must have seen it. McKay responded, and as with police protocol, it is routine to collect the identification of the person being suspicious to get a background check. If Liko had been cooperative in the first place, he would have been home in no time. He brought this upon himself.

McKay upon seeing that Liko was a Kenney makes a wise crack about it and refuses to explain anything to Liko other than he has to do exactly what McKay tells him to.

Cut and dry Liko Kenney should have followed the Officer's first direct order. Officer McKay had the patience of a saint while awaiting for back up to arrive. After the initial physical contact and Liko Kenney resisting that the force continuum says he could have been sprayed right there. Officer McKay was smart in waiting for back up because there are 3 other reports and the video to support his actions. Once again my thoughts go out to the McKay and Kenney families.
