The only reason why this would happen is because Link wouldn't normally go there; thus, there is no need for the fisherman's legs or the collision data for the fish tank. He couldn't see or touch anyway in a normal game.

There would be just more polygons and they'd affect the performance. Instead you can use this number of polygons on something else and make the environment look more detailled. ;)
