Hey. Im just starting off and was wondering whether or not this is a good guitar for beginners. If not do you have any others in mind? Anyones input is welcome. :)
@MegaYellowPenguin I see it's going for $79 at music123. Are you a bit handy? If so, do it for sure. you will likely have to pop the saddle out and sand it down a bit ( possibly the nut too, but don't do that first) to get the action better. If you check out one of my other videos (don't know which one off top of head), but I slapped in a compensated saddle and the guitar got really nice for $60 beater upper. Beginners guitar yes indeed.
@MegaYellowPenguin, I would strongly suggest the Squire SA-100. I just noticed that price is down from the price I paid years ago (local store likely got me for a few extra bucks). SA-100 at $99... go for that one.
Great job!!! I love the video. I'm sure Adrian will be pleased to see it! My name is Robert. I am a friend of Adrians that maintains his YouTube Channel. Right now I just have a couple of videos I recorded from Crockett, Texas, but I am sure we will post more in time. Take care!
I have a silly looking smile on my face and if a mirror were handy I'm sure I'm blushing a bit. A comment like that from YOU, being only one removed from Adrian and that close to him working wise... all I can say is WOW and thanks. Really, thank you a great deal. You are a gracious guy.
I live in Texas, so off course Adrian is no where near me but we keep tabs on each other very frequently. He is a very busy man with writing articles in magazines etc. I just came across your video and was very impressed as would he. Take care!
rogue guitars are a really good value for their price, providing tone that is miles ahead of it's price range. i own a modified rogue acoustic-electric dreadnought, and it has really nice tone.
however, the workmanship on these guitars is very poor, which is the only drawback.
the Rogue cleared up a lot with the compensated saddle (I put one on a did other vids), but it is basically a dull sounding guitar. it doesn't move much. Value for price I'd go with Seagull. There are a few others, but the Seagull (most models) have 1.8" at nut. If you read the whole info section to this video you will pretty much see my full assessment of this guitar. the minimum requirements for a "guitar" to sound good is a solid top.
Might I ask, what size (1/8, 3/32, etc.) saddle did you replace the old one with? I'm looking into buying the ooo counterpart to this one as a throw around guitar and I want to know what to replace the saddle with.
I picked up a Washburn travel guitar and it came with an extra saddle. It was compensated, so I sanded the thing down a bit and made it fit. Whatever fit in the washburn just needed a little sanding thickness wise to get it in the slot. Sanded the bottom too, but just to get the action down. does this info help you?
Lovely song, lovely playing. I'm also a big fan of the Rogues. I keep a black 100D at my folks house, and a 000 size Rogue in my office, plus three of their resonators at home. I've just ordered the 100D/mandolin package because I wanted a dread I could keep outside its case in the wintertime plus have a knockabout mando for my office. God, Rogue has made my life so much sweeter. Never thought I could afford this kind of luxury! To others, don't be afraid to buy one of these guitars!
I've heard lots of Martins that don't sound as good."Commodity Fetishism" is the REAL reason that we spend over the odds on guitars(plus that we can always flog the bummers to fellow-idiots for nearly what we paid).Cheapies once sounded worse after the 5th fret, but that was years ago.
This guitar sweetened up a lot after I put a comped saddle in. I use it in one of my later videos after (forgot which one). I'm a big Seagull guitar fan myself for reason such as you mention.
the song is why i'm here. the guitar sounds fantastic. i bought a cheapee down in s. america and put foam inbetween the nut and the strings. this also reduces excess vibrations.
I have it in black, and many of the reviewa says the action is way to high, and i played it and i see why its so hard to press down for long periods of time.. do you have any problems with this? If so how did u deal with it?
First up I sanded down the saddle and the guitar became easierly playable. But the intonation was really bad - it's not a compensated saddle. When I picked up a Rover travel guitar it had an extra saddle which was compensated I put it in the Rogue. Rogue play very well now. Buy/get a comped saddle and sand it to fit you will not be disappointed.
I have a black one i got for 59.99 from 3 yrs ago. I just bought a Taylor 114 for 600 and regret it. My Rogue is actually just as good and I personally think it sounds better. It is also a sturdier guitar that is cheap enough not to care about scratching or dropping. I think I got lucky and got a really good one.
I also have this guitar. It might be a luck of the draw thing but i was totally suprised by the quality of my rogue. After bone nut and saddle were installed shes pretty hard to beat.
I got a Rogue RA-101B for about $50 to use as nothing but a practice guitar but it sounds better than 90% of the $500+ guitars I've used. It's insane, I think they're just great guitars in general.
checked out your stuff too. I enjoyed your taste in song selection. Your playing reeked of pro level. Too bad too many people don't dig songs like that. You have got to be a player or real lover of music to enjoy that stuff. I was not surprised to see you on stage in a group situation in 3 of those vids. You are obviously a seasoned playing. I'll put you up at my page... first person I ever felt the need to do that with.

If I were you I'd measure the Rouge you have so you know without a doubt the size
you need. I would assume, do to CNC, we would have the same size, but I would eliminate
the possible and measure the one you own.

I'm looking for a cheap beginner acustic is the Rogue worth it and i have small hands is it easy to play for a beginner/newbie?
damageplan67 2 years ago
Yes it's worth it at the free to $80ish range. How much are you looking to spend? There may be other better choices within your price range.
