  • Could listen to this 24/7 and never get tired of hearing it. I grew up at the beginning of R n R and will never forget of hearing masterpieces like this.

  • Just one of the best old hits from the 50s,,RWB

  • Rock'nRoll is the best music of all the times.

  • That's the real deal. Thanks.

  • OK, OK...everyone...all you who took ballroom dance lessons in the 5th or 6th grade..."toe heel, toe heel, back step"...I'm exhausted...now, let's just go home and watch "The Rifleman" with Chuck Conners and Johnny Crawford, the latter of whom had a wonderful recording of "Rumors"...check it out on You Tube...Tunesmith

  • have ever heard of THE DYNATONES? the same yeat this came out

  • This is the song all of us early pickers played,,Sears 1 pickup silvertone and a

Premiere amp,,with DA hairdo's, we were ready to go...

  • Anybody remember Dick Sharpe, aka Dick Saunders. (played for Ronnie Dove, Chubby Checker and others. In the 70's, I heard that Dick was the guitar player on "GBS" and was payed $25.00 for the session. Maybe there was another version?? or just BS

  • Jimmy B., as a tribute to your dad, you should post a version of you playing this tune and show Charlie Gracie & Tom Emmanuel what a guitar can sound like. You've got awesome jazz chops, so I'm sure you could handle 12 bar boogie in E.

  • Do you have Fireball by the Bulldogs ?l

  • That was my father Jimmy Bruno Sr who played guitar on that track and on all the Virtues tunes. Frank Virtue was a crook and couldn't even tune his bass.

  • @JimmyBrunoJazz get a life you has been - no talent - you have to dog a man who gave you a paycheck and fed your dirty children. Don't be jealous because your a NOBODY . SUCKS to be a member of FRANK VIRTUE AND THE VIRTUES. I don't see your name anywhere. Maybe you should unclog toilets for a living. lol

  • That was my father Jimmy Bruno Sr who played guitar on that track and on all the Virtues tunes. Frank Virtue was a crook and couldn't even tune his bass

  • afriend lent me 100s of 45s and this version was there i had never herd it is it from usa we had bert weedon in uk maybe it's aussie as they had heaps of covers in the 60s.??i like it anyway thanks for posting it pete

  • 2 people don't have a life!

  • Now this was music!!!

  • I was 14 when this came out. Them were the days, eh? Coca Cola 6 cents. '59 Vetter, $3,300. House on Vancouver's West Side, $20,000 for a 4 br on 60 ft lot. Now 2.5 million

  • Now this is really going back in time........but what a beautiful trip. Loved this old tune from the first time I heard it as a youngster. Awesome memories!

  • Have you ever heard "Honky Tonk" by Bill Doggett? AWSOME!!!

  • @lymar2vcr Honky Tonk Man?

  • This kind of music was in my years. Now times they don't go for insturmentals but we loved it. & this was one of my favorites & Duane Eddy!

  • My grandfather is Frank Virtue - nice post! :)

  • @vienna244 Please tell him THANKS from all of us baby boomers who miss this kind of music

  • My dad told me. He was the drummer on that song. But his part was to noisy and Frank Virtue rerecorded the drum part. To bad my dad got no credit for the demo version. :(

  • @JohnC2566 Drummers can make or break a song

  • sounds a little like pride and joy

  • This was the intro music for a TV dance show in Salt Lake City. Our version of American Bandstand. Anyone out there remember the name of that show or the DJ?

  • Great song. RWB

  • When I was 11 turning 12 this came out and I could't listen to it enough.

I had music in my blood

  • real rockin` instru from the wellknown Frank Virtue. was issued too in germany on ELECTROLA. TOP !!!

  • Does anyone know what guitar they used? Must be Fender strat perhaps.

  • I wore out my first copy of this great guitar song learning to play it.... bought a second!! Finally learned it!!! Thanks for posting!!

  • Thank you:)

  • ChelleAynn69, your Grandaddy wrote one heck of a tune! This was a "must-play" by everyone who picked up a guitar back then. This is the best version.

  • Thank you, when I found it on here i almost cried just thinking about him :)

  • I agree this original hasn't been touched by anyone!

  • @mosrite60 Nevere will be ! An OLD 1941'er

  • I agree 100% !! My Grandaddy bought me my first real guitar at age 12.... I immediately began to learn this version...

  • Great song. RWB

  • I am so proud to say this was written by my Grand Father Hoyt Manies, and my mom, and aunt play it all of the time. RIP Grandaddy

  • great quality sound on this 45. Loved I used to crank up this tune in my old merc sled back in the day. Along with johnny and the Hurricanes lol thanks for putting it up .

    oldmaninaolderbody

  • Oh hell yes, Johnny & The Hurricanes! But I do remember playing this in my grandma's kitchen with my uncle John (13 months younger than me.). You have GOOD taste in music.

  • Heavy dose of tape delay made this special.

Every band played "Boogie" but not like this !

    Great song ! Great memories.

  • RonaldVaughn, Don't forget Duane Eddy from Coolidge, Arizona. Quite a guitar slinger himself!!

  • There is Duane Eddy, and there's the rest.

  • I like it! and I seek for the B-side! I like the tune on the other side that is a sort of powerful "blues"! If I'm correct it is "St Louis Blues"... I have listened it somewhere in the friends record collection! - Very good sound!

  • There are at least 2 different pressings that I'm aware of. One of them had "Bye Bye Blues" on the B-side which is the one you may be referring to......The one featured here however, has "Guitar In Orbit " on the B- side. Both were on the HUNT label.

  • Surprisingly, after writing this comment to you, I have found the B-side on a website "Guitar In Orbit"! But The version I search, is not a "HUNT" record but a Mercury record possibly re-edited in early 70's... The label is yellow as a scholar bus written "VIRTUES" in stylized font and the "Mercury" logo in the bottom of the label. I'm remember that the side-A was "Guitar Shuffle Boogie" and the other side "St-Louis Blues": a very cool blues with a rocky feeling!

  • @offshute I had the one with Guitar in Orbit, I forgot about this tune,

  • AHHH .........didn't think I'd actually find it...COOL! Thanks!

  • To answer email: No,I didn't grow up in

    Canada. But,in Houston,Texas.

I only know about Arthur Smith's detailed

    accomplishments,mainly because of

Dave Cameron (DJ) telling about it on

his Oldies show, "A Long,Long Time Ago".

Mr. Smith is also on MySpace, and was

kind enough to reply when I emailed.

WHAT A LEGEND!! Only other guitar

genuis still alive is LES PAUL.

  • Yes I know the focus here is the guitar playing but has anyone noticed how great the drums are? Truly air drums worthy :)

  • Drums are awesome when they don't overpower the song

  • Thanks for the info 50po50..RWB

  • One of the great riffs of all time!

Frank Virtue,of course, had hung out with

    old military buddy ARTHUR SMITH....who

had written the original "GUITAR BOOGIE"

    Arthur Smith actually encouraged Frank

to,of course,do his own version. Both

    are great!

  • What ever happened to Jimmy Bruno? He was great on this song. RWB

  • Jimmy Bruno Sr. passed away in 1979. He was only 61.

  • :P they die too soon. So did America

  • @50po50 good

  • When I was in eighth grade around 1959 there

was a talent show and out comes this kid with

a big F hole guitar playing guitar boogie shuffle solo. I will never forget it.

That was in Willow Grove PA.

  • Wow. Years since I've heard this. Thanks for the post.

  • That's right. Frank claimed that he played the solo, but it was Jimmy Bruno, a truly under-appreciated player.

  • Mr. Virtue did NOT play lead guitar on this recording. My Father is the lead guitar player and his name was Jimmy Bruno. Mr. Virtue could hardly play his instrument which was the bass.

  • How cool that your dad was the guitar player. I wore this record out when I was a kid. Still one of my favorite guitar pieces of all time. Mr. Bruno was the Eddy Van Halen of his day.

  • @joejoeuncle lol Don't be jealous cause your Father was a cheap band member " has been" who no one remembers or cares of. It's FRANK virtue and the Virtues. Not your dumb father's name. sucks to be a NOBODY. lol

  • By far, the best version of this song ever done. Thanks for posting it. I have the same 45. RWB

  • Thanks for posting this! Great instrumental.

  • This song,of course,originated with Arthur

    Smith. But Frank Virtue and he were friends;

so this variation kind of sprung up...like

    a Topsy that just growed,LOL!!

Smith's version is the greatest...but this

    one's a classic,too!

  • Great Stuff.

can you please post their other hit - " Guitar Boogie Shuffle Twist"

  • I don't have that one but I have "Guitar In Orbit" and "Bye Bye Blues"

  • Oh, yeah - that'll do well to promote the Virtues. Plse post. thanks
