i like foss games because you dont need to have a high powered pc to run all the foss games can run easy i tryed a 5 year old laptop and ran freedom and it runs like it was a new pc
The problem with FOSS is many game engines die out and people lose interest. Plus many people that start with FOSS and home-brewing eventually are pro and sellout to EA games and other big time companies.
good stuff, only problem on the pr side, go out and pay people 10 bucks to come in and watch your presentation, having 8 people in the audience doesnt make your presentation look important or noteworthy. props to opensource.

I had to stop the Video at 16 minutes, Your information is great, but you need to be more enthusiasitic, really get into what you're talking about, enjoy it, and replace your um's with ah's/ar's.
Perhaps take up a public speaking course/class to improve your confidence.
Watch some videos of other people giving talks and have a look at how the speaker really gets excited about the information he is presenting. If you enjoy giving the talk, others will enjoy watching it! All the Best!

Humanity is at such a crucial time in history, I can not find anything useful about using technology for anything other than to bring our minds into deeper understanding of our responsibilities to find ways to save people from socially sanctioned disasters: such as nutritional deficiencies, environmental pollutions, war, addictions, rape, murder, etc. Gaming is the business world's way of preying on the pocket books of lost people who waste their brains when they should be working for humanity.
That's true. But I can tell you that people who are living in less-safe areas, where there are earthquakes or other disasters, they also enjoy the pleasure of a videogame, just to distract them a little bit.
The serious responsibilities come anyway. There are also still eager scientists who explore new ways of making a better world. Not everyone will understand this, why some people only focus on... science.
It's always been like that - some people work for and some don't care for humanity.
You can't say that people either do all one or all the other. We do have to fix the problems, but I don't think it's possible, or at least very mentally healthy at all, to exclude leisure time from life. People need ways to unwind, or they can't function properly, and video games provide this.
Gaming is important because it spikes creativity in minds young and old. It gets a lot of people interested in technology that would have otherwise done something a little less intellectual with their lives. To me you seem like the kind of person who does nothing but rally attention to a specific area. You probably do very little to change any of your listed problems in a significant way. Let those who are capable deal with the big problems. You can't solve them, so why does your opinion matter.
Seems to me that another big difference between Linux based (or any FOSS-based) games and commercial games is the life cycle. Commercial games come and go. Tux racer has been there since the dawn of 3D acceletators.. Or so it seems to me, anyway. It's always nice to see something new, fresh and entertaining in Open Source. (Not only in an experimental or artistic way.) Btw, I was amazed by the Battle for Wesnoth. Nothing "new" (compared to a bunch of commercial games), but very well made.
That's great but you can't use C# mono to make games because there's no Dx library, making your point about using C# to write cross platform games null and void.
but why not learn something more "native"? For example python is easy to learn and can be used on linux, windows, osx and some more (like nokia phones ;))

yes interesting i use windows for gaming also but start short time ago learn c# but can not use under linux right?
Markus2976 3 years ago
Indeed, C sharp is Microsoft properteri language
lordmetroid 3 years ago
Actually there are cross-platform C# implementations; DotGNU and Mono from the top of my head.

That's great but you can't use C# mono to make games because there's no Dx library, making your point about using C# to write cross platform games null and void.

Microsoft doesn't need Dx libraries, Microsoft endorsed games written in Dx needs Dx libraries. Ever here of OpenGL?

you can with mono,
but why not learn something more "native"? For example python is easy to learn and can be used on linux, windows, osx and some more (like nokia phones ;))

So can c++ and c. You don't need python for cross platform.
