  • thanks, it helped my study. :) i study everything by ear and some parts of parker lines are too fast for human ear!!!!!!!!!

  • nice job, not easy on a 4 string

  • does anyone know the metronome tempo for the real song?

  • 218...this version is out of time

  • thanks man

  • learning it, but i can do it faster then this :p

  • i think this is just too hard, i looked up tabs. its just long and complicated lol

  • Try the sheet music, it's much easier to understand then tabs.

  • DISIPLINE yourself!@gregshot.

  • if you get the sheet music and know how to sight read- it is A PIECE OF CAKE! I've been playing the bass since age 17yrs. old and my first 6months approached 'Donna Lee'- and let me tell ya dude, initially it IS a challenge, BUT if you dicipline yourself EVERYDAY for a couple of hours on end, you will get it trust me! 31 years later i play this tune just to get my fingers warmed up. best..

  • Thank You very much for the slow tempo..

I'm teaching myself this song on the steel pan..

    Thank You again :)

  • Your timing is out on the rests. Try it with a metronome/rhythm box.

  • sweet! nice one

    ;)

  • Only saying a big thks for posting that vid !

  • Thanks for playing it slow!

I might *almost* get it this way!

  • I play it with you man, we sound just like joe pass and nhop :P

  • awesome, nice job man. That's about the speed I can play it. Impossible to do i like Jaco, lol.

  • I guarantee that if you practice it enough you will play it as fast as Jaco.

  • Jaco acctually said it took him 9 years to learn to play it the way he played it. When I heard I lost a bit motivation. It is not just how fast but all the silencing of the strings and the groove. its very hard. but not impossible.

  • I have the "Modern Electric Bass" DVD. Yes he said that but I think he was exaggerating. There's no way it took him 9 years unless he only practiced it once in a while. There are a lot Bass players who can play it like Jaco and it didn't take them 9 years. To me the hardest part is figuring out and remembering the notes.

  • yes of course. he didn't just sit home and learn Donna Lee for 9 years. He was busy.

  • That's right. He started touring when he was a teenager.

  • It's longer to innovate than to immitate, it probably took him nine years to be content of his playing, to achieve the right sound, expression, articulation, time, Jaco does way more than play notes one after the other for a certain amount of time, that's whats make a bass player, a good bass player.

  • @guitareluver You're right. He said a lot of it was learning how to mute the open strings so they wouldn't ring out when they weren't supposed to.

  • Hey dude, thank you for this, i will start learning it tomorrow, got nothing to do anyway, so i might as well practice some nice oldschool jazz and get better, see ya ;)

  • nice Irish jig feel....NOT!!!!!!1

  • the slow speed will help me learn this song! Thank you very very much!

  • Thanks dude!! It is a realy good help to people like me, a jazz aprentice... bye...

  • Nice, thaks man!

  • good job at swinging the beats...now all you have to do is pick up the speed a little bit. but nice job though thats exactly how i started off playing it

  • thanks for your suggestion, I'll work more on the speed, it keeps on following my progress. bye
