The english bulldog is hands down one of the unhealthiest breeds of all, so disfunctional it really does make me sick. The proof is in the performance or lack there of.
Its disgusting what people have done to the breed, its not right how can anyone say that the dog is fine, its unhealthy and nothing like the dog of the past :(
Some things you said are correct and probably info you found when you bought bulldog books at amazon.com.
The stuff you are incorrect about are numerous but I will point out just your biggest misconception.
Your long winded rants are about what breeds combined create the "real" and "original" English Bulldogge.
Fact is that no matter what breeds you use in your mix it is and forever will be nothing more than an attempt to recreate the original and extinct E. Bulldogge.
I just think that you take yourself just a little too serious. A little humility and REAL knowledge go a long way.
You keep talking about the "haters".
I am willing to bet that most people don't have a problem with your dogs but rather with the way you represent yourself.
You have a decent understanding of the k9 species but you try to pass as an expert. You simply don't have the knowledge or even the lingo that goes along with true expertise.
I really do like the old version better, I still can't believe how they changed so much over the years. And the fact that the breeders think this one is heathier and can do better than the old one makes me wonder whats wrong with them. x_x
Seriously, do you see this small heavy not agile dog fight a cow? Pffft, no.
Just like the Show German Shepherd they should look past the looks and go back to looking at the health and build of the dog. Poor Bulldogs. Their name no longer fits either.
Forgive me, but I have just noticed a pug video you have favourited. I would have thought that dog-health fascist like you would be apoplectic at the mere sight of such a deformed freak (which by the way was crossed with the original bulldog to produce the modern version). O the irony LMAO! I think you should research the breed-specific health problems of the pug and then you might be less keen to promote the kind of dog you want wiping out of existence.
You are a no nonsense idiot. I posted a funny video and again you presume to know my intentions. I asked you again and again NOT to assume what my intentions are. But since you are a half wit of monumental proportions I will make myself clear once and for all and then will not respond any further.
I am against ALL breeders who produce animals which will suffer due to avoidable issues.
I NEVER said I wanted to wipe out the bulldog. I said I wanted them HEALTHIER.
What mental issue is preventing you from getting a simple message?
I want people to pay attention to bad breeding practices. I feel sorry for your over weight kids, your badly bred dogs and even you for being such a complete failure in life to where you cannot even comprehend a simple message even when it is explained to you.
PLEASE stop responding. Your ignorance is wasting my time.
You are dead set on staying stupid so I will leave you to it. Good bye.
I don't want my kinds growing up pathologically obsessed with their health, just as I don't want them abusing hard drugs. Presumably you believe we should embark on a program of developing the untimate super-fit dog, and make all dogs a carbon copy of it with all other breeds sterilised. Perhaps you have similar views about people to.
Actually... I do think that ANYONE who loves dogs should want and strive for ULTIMATE health for any given breed. If you want to compare breeders who strive to produce VERY healthy dogs to Hitler than you have reached a level of ignorance which now pushes the very limits of what I thought was possible as far as stupidity is concerned.
Yes I wants dogs HEALTHY! VERY healthy! Healthy dogs just like healthy people have a better quality of life.
@MandyLionWWIII Let us be clear about one thing... Dogs are animals, and like all animals (including) they must grow old, suffer ill health and sadly die. By fanatically breeding dogs forever healthier, all you are actually doing is delaying this process, not preventing it. People keep dogs in thier homes purely as companions, whose physical needs go little beyond their daily walks. If a dog has a reasonable QUALITY of life then that is fine with me.
I do believe in having many different breeds. But there is no excuse for what we have done to the Bulldog, to the GSD and many other breeds in the name of "beauty".
Health should always be more important than looks. If we truly love man's best friend then we try to improve the health of ALL breeds.
Your anger towards me is a symptom of your anger inside because you already know you are not supporting the right thing is health isn't paramount
You are not in too good a shape yourself and you want your kids to be accepting of poor health as well...
That is a very common thing and I feel bad for you and your children.
Health is something we can and should all strive for because without it there is no happiness. Having heart attacks is NOT fun. Having seizures is NOT fun. Having back pain is NOT fun. Having skin problems is NOT fun. If you dispute what I just said then quite frankly I am stunned
And please... Do not make assumptions on where I stand on any issue regarding dogs or humans. If you want to know what my thoughts are on any given subject just ask.
But PLEASE stop assuming and putting words in my mouth.
If you want a bull-baiting type dog then get something like a pitbull that might just cost the life of a child relative. What is needed is a happy medium between the original baiters and the plodding cripple of today. A dog that preserves the distinctive bulldog look but is reasonably healthy and whose appearance is not exaggerated to the point of charicature. The are many breeders today adopting that approach - Ken Mollett's Victorian Bulldog being one fine example.
The fact that you are OK with "reasonable" health in a dog is disturbing...
I hope that your children grow up with "reasonable" health since that seems to be an OK standard of living for you.
I can tell that your heart is somewhat in the right place but you simply don't know enough about dogs and pitbulls in particular to make statements about them. If I had you on the phone I could PROVE to you that the pitbull is actually MORE save around people than ANY other breed by nature
@MandyLionWWIII Absolutely - I do believe in 'reasonable' health. I do not believe in a master race of humans who live to be 150, and neither do I believe in
Kind of reminds me of what they did to the pug (though I don't think they were ever athletic) Also the German Shepherd and many other breeds. You can also see this in some pits (I think the term for them is hippo.)
When the health of the breed is overlooked for what some call beauty, that's just pathetic. Give me a mutt any day of the week, or a working dog.
My intention is not to urgue with anybody, but you need to understand that you missing the forest for a tree,a fact is that the breed looks like this and thanks God it will still look like this. We born having this beautifull picture in our mind and this what we loved on them, and not what you or few others like. Buy a Staff or a Bitt and call it Bulldog if this is what you like and leave the rest of us enjoy what we have. This is must last answer to you.
I actually LOVE my dogs. I want them to be healthy, happy, functional, energetic, proud dogs who live long lives.
Anyone who supports or much worse breeds dogs for "beauty" above all else does not give a damn about the dogs. Call it what you will. I call it what it is... CRUELTY
I like a dog with type as much as the next dog lover but... NEVER at the prize of a dogs health.
Short muzzle is OK but NO muzzle is not.
Wrinkles are OK but wrinkle which causes skin problems is not.
When a dog needs help mating, giving birth, needs skin treatments every day, needs help getting up on the couch and cannot keep up with ANY other breed of dog then we have committed a crime against this great breed.
The Bulldog used to be one of the most athletic, powerful and therefore HEALTHY dogs on earth.
What breeders like you have done to this breed on the whole surpasses the suffering caused by the inhumane spectacle of bull baiting a thousand times over.
2/3 Persons like this guy dislike bulldogs, they like bulldogs look like terriers, staffs or bitt bulls,at list this is what some pics of him showing. From the pics as he says he understands a healthy and a not healthy bulldog, how ?
No... This guy LOVES Bulldogs. Anyone who loves Bulldogs hates the fact that Bulldogs on the whole are a debilitated breed. Unable to do anything resembling a normal life... They cannot run for more than a few minutes at a time, they need help to breed, they need help to give birth, they have hip problems, skin problems, eye problems, problems with breathing and the list goes on and on.
Anyone who loves Bulldogs wants the best for THEM. Looks should take second place to "beauty"
It is easy to see that ANY extreme exaggerations cause problems in health. Anyone who has even a rudimentary understanding of K9 structure can see that immediately. The fact that you do not see it worries me.
Either you do not know enough about dogs to know what causes suffering or you simply do not care... Either way... This is BAD news for what could have been one of the greatest breeds on earth. The Bulldog was truly magnificent... Until breeders like you got a hold of them.
The TRUE Bulldog looked more like a Pitbull BECAUSE that is what the original Bulldog was and looked like.
It is interesting that before this ridiculous beauty pageant dog show insanity all we had were functional animals. It is sad that in today's world we think of ourselves as so evolved because we don't "hurt" dogs by bull baiting anymore... While in truth the entire modern Bulldog breed suffers a great deal due to our "love" for them.
I'm a bulldog breeder the last 11 years and I raise more than a hundred Bulldogs, all of them healthy full of life and energy. Bulldogs are bodybuilders they are not marathon runers and sure not bull killers or killers at all. 1/2
@MandyLionWWIII But yet why do we need 'bull' dogs just for the novelty? I really don't see the point of breeding dogs with strong fighting characteristics that no longer serve a purpose. These dogs are filling shelters due to their bad reputation, deserved or not. I totally agree with you on breeding healthy dogs, but I don't necessarily agree with breeding dogs in today's climate.
Unfortunately many people think like you... While your and their heart is in the right place you are throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Breeding dogs in today's or any other climate makes perfect sense. There has, is and forever will be a need for an able bodied dog to protect a family home. Breeding for power, stable temperaments, protection and intelligence will create a superior guardian. Remember that a "mutt" was "bad" breeding as well...
I love my dogs more than life so their health and well being is ultra important. I love the character of a Bulldog. But these dogs are so stoic that they often go through life suffering without a whimper.
Unfortunately many "dog lovers" think that loving dogs means that we overlook their suffering in order to maintain their "beauty".
You being a Bulldog breeder have to overlook the fact that this breed is inferior in health and functionality to any other breed of course...
my bulldog doesnt even come from akc stock and hes fairly healthy compaired to some.although its in shorter sperts than most breeds he loves to run around and wrestle with my other dogs he even has a much easyer time jumping up on the bed and furniture than my jack russell terrier
There are of course healthy Bulldogs... Unfortunately that is not the rule but the exception.
It is a sad state of affairs when sickness becomes the norm and health becomes rare. It should be the other way around if we approach breeding the right way...
The reason why I say this is because unfortunately the Boxer has such genetic defects that you are lucky to end up with a dog that will live past the age of 8. For a medium size dog this is simply not acceptable.
The average pitbull living anywhere between 12 to 16 years that shows you which dog is genetically more robust. The bulldog of old had to be EXTREMELY robust due to it's dangerous task... Boxers are riddled with heart problems
its astounding how many different versions there are of one breed.... pits, amstaffs, staffy bulls, EB, AmBulls, American Bully, French Bull, Boston, Bull Terrier, etc etc etc etc.....
and lets not forget that classic myth that EBs have wrinkled faces because it was necessary as a way to channel the bull's blood away from the eyes... please.. it has NOTHING at all to do with the infusion of Pug.
Show bulldogs arent built for hard work, thats why they arent used for it and usually arent forced to have to fight or be physically able to have lightning reflexes like the old working dogs, who were not bred to look good, but to get a job done so really there is no call for a debate about this because it is only opinion, not FACT.
Actually... Fact is that Bulldogs are not just unable to do what a Bulldog used to be able to do. That in itself would not be too bad but...
When a dog has trouble breathing, hip problems, skin disease, can't run at all anymore, can't breath naturally and dies prematurely as a RULE... Then we have taken it too far... That is a FACT and not an opinion.
Ideally we would have the bulldog of old. There is no reason to use a dog in this cruel manner just because it could get the job done but...
There is NO denying a dog should be healthy and happy.
It always amazes me how showdog people look down on other dog abusers such as people who fight dogs and so on. They have caused as much if not more suffering upon not just individual dogs but entire breeds.
No doubt a dog fighter is less than human. I hate them for inflicting this kind of suffering on innocent dogs. But anyone who accepts a dog that suffers for "beauty" is a dog abuser and not far removed from the monsters who fight them.
"Beauty" is not, cannot be something that is so unfit to even perform the most basic functions of life.
That is like saying that a human with a heart condition, weighing 400 pounds, gets winded after 2 minutes of walking, has severe skin issues and cannot perform sexually is "HOT". LOL!
"Beauty" is a healthy, happy, functioning being... A fit being is poetry in motion... An unfit being is a sad and challenged individual with no appeal whatsoever...
The man in this video is full of shit. He obviously has not bread or owned bulldogs of this eria. I have bread bulldogs for years and not 1 has had to to have medical help to give birth. and all dogs are very active if given the space and time to exercise. they like to sleep just as much as the next breed. you dont exercise a lab and it too will become lazy, overweight and have difficulty breathing. Of all the dogs me and my family have had and bread, the bulldogs have had the least problems!
The man in the video is a dog historian of great esteem with proof on his theories even a "breeder" such as yourself cannot cover up.
I understand why you would be offended by this video... The fact that more and more people are finding out how ruthless breeders are and how far they are willing to push their sick dogs is of course screwing up your business.
Folks... Breeders sell dogs. If the motivation is money the credibility goes right out the window. Who takes a used car salesman serious?
Your bulldogs may not have needed a C-section but as a vet, I have performed C-sections on a several bulldogs. It is fairly common for that to happen. Do your dogs have a proper EB gait and stance (like a football line backer)? The stance is due to the narrower hips and often results in C-sections.
if any dog should be banned, it should be dogs cruely bred for looks reguardless of health problems by retarded humans who care about nothing but satifying their own ego.
....if you want to know what a true Bulldog is you have to know wich kind of work the dog is able to do...
The Bulldog is a legend , a legend because he is the best pound for pound fighter in the dogworld and he is able to work on a Bull like Centuries ago...
....i know only one kind of dog i would call a Bulldog.
The original bulldog was never extinct as we can see him in many still functioning bulldog type breeds today... Like the Pitbull, Am Bulldog (some lines) and so on.
There is no denying the fact that this perverted idea of beauty has created an animal that is not just unable to do what a bulldog should be able to do but is also not able to function in the most basic ways.
It has become riddled with skin disease, HD, heart disease, premature death, inability to breed or birth without asisstance.
@tappajabba if you look at old bulldog pictures, many of the dogs look like APBT so how you NOT say they are a bulldog? Besides, the descended from Staffordshire Bull Terriers which were used for bull baiting. A terrier is defined as a dog who controls pests. Also, the APBT and ASBT have the same body type of old working bulldogs unlike the EB. The Bulldog was never in danger of extinction! Ha, the rich always had the best bull baiting dogs and kept them for companions after bait banning!
Anyone noticed that the "historian" only shows drawn pictures... si basicly whis video have no relevans! yes, bulldogs have some problems, but dont foget that many other dogs do aswell, and there are alot of healthy bulldogs out there that live up to 15 years with no problems of breathing and so on. allthe breeders that i have talked to are rly trying to breed on the healthiest dogs to get as good bulldogs as posible!
Of course Bulldog breeders are going to tell you what you want to hear... Just as a used car salesman will tell you what you want to hear. Breeders make money SELLING dogs. If they are honest about the problems of their dogs they will make no money.
If someone has something to gain by lying about their "product" in order to sell it any intelligent person will take anything they say with a grain of salt.
Being gullible will not make the Bulldog more healthy... Demanding a change will...
Ofc they are trying to sell their product, i´m not that naiv that i dont go visit the bulldogs myself to see if the breeders rly live up to their word! what, no ipods back there?! dont take me for some idiot, woul just have been nice to see 1 real picture instead of 10 painted ones! the bulldogs i have visited(and its many) have never showed any signs of suffering! and some of the breeders here in the south of sweden(yes, thats why my english is is bad)
Of course back then pictures were painted more often than photographed. Use some common sense here. I wonder whether or not you think people had Ipods back then...??? LOL!
The reason why other dogs have problems as well as you pointed out is for the same reasons why the Bulldog is crippled these days. It is because of breeders who perpetuate crippling exaggerations for the sake of money without a single care whether or not the animal in question will suffer and die an early death.
have their bitches giving birth on their own, the swedish kennelclub is abit better according breeed standards the the UK one! what i want to say is that i have seen that the breed is getting healthier and healthier and thats why i think u shouldnt be so hard on the race, cause there are ppl trying to make it bette! dont take it so personal, we all love the bullies becuase the have a personality like no other dog out there!
Thanks for putting this video up. What show was this from? It's a shame what happened to bulldogs. The old bulldogges did indeed look like pit bulls and I'm glad my pit bull is as athletic as the bulldogges over a hundred years ago. Watching what happened to the bulldog is like watching what is happening to the pit bull today...people are breeding them lower and wider. It's very unhealthy. I wonder why people continue destroying breeds with unhealthy breeding practices.
HAHA. I like how you think you're somehow special for putting up some video about one breed of dog. I don't have to prove or make myself look better to you. You're a petty childish miserable person. You throw around insults instead of having a conversation. Good luck
I don't think I am special about putting up a video...
I have been active in the fight against dog fighting on a global level for the last 20 years, have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars world wide to help bust dog fighting rings, I am in contact with every authority on all of the bully and mastiff breeds all over the world and I give 50 percent of all of my very considerable income to the benefit of dog rescues...
I am right now in the process of putting together yet another benefit concert where I am performing for free and every dollar made goes to the benefit of non kill shelters...
I don't think I am special but the dogs most certainly are.
Your arguing skills show me your lack of intelligence... You responded like the 24 year old over grown child you are.
Grow up, educate yourself and think before you speak (or write) and no one will take offense anymore.
I'm glad you asked. I actually am a attorney for PETA. by my job definition alone we try to work in the best interest of ALL animals. I also started a english and french bulldog rescue in Texas. See I know I love animals, and I know there are others who do too. I don't go around spouting off insults about genetics or stupidity. I gave you the upmost respect and I would expect the same.
You did NOT give me respect... You called me a Nazi.
Peta is more about ego than it is about animals and more and more people are understanding this now... Hence the diminished popularity of Peta.
I am in it for the animals only...
As far as us having a conversation...
I have yet to see you even respond to the issue at all. You have not said that it is BETTER to breed healthy dogs... You have not yet said that you think it is WRONG to breed dogs that cannot breathe, run or breed without help.
I also cannot imagine you being an attorney since your arguing skills are that of a teenage girl.
Also... Peta has some extremely radical thoughts on breeds such as the Bulldog which no real dog lover can agree with... In fact YOUR attitude is the opposite of what Peta thinks about these poor sick dogs...
I still believe you are a house wife who pretends to have a life...
My guess is that you are a frustrated, over weight house wife who thinks she is contributing by getting a bulldog FOR FREE (of course) from a rescue...
This is also the reason why you don't mind your dog not being able to move since you yourself cannot...
I LOVE Bulldogs... I want them to live healthy and happy lives... I want Bulldog breeders to pay attention to the problems and try to BETTER them. Bulldogs have been getting sicker and sicker over the decades and if we don't do something soon we WILL lose this wonderful breed. The only way to save the Bulldog is to try and improve their overall health. Why can't you get that....???
Anyone who loves dogs knows the pain and suffering it causes when your beloved dog is suffering and eventually dying a painful death before your very eyes...
This is why I am so worked up about the subject. I have nursed many a dog through immense suffering which could have been easily avoided had the breeder cared enough to make sure the dogs he used for breeding were healthy specimen.
I hate anyone who causes suffering for dogs including abusers, careless breeders and clueless novices...
So I don't get it. so because these dogs aren't the real deal we shouldn't own them? I love my bulldog and he's in good health. I guess I'm missing your point in the video.
The problem is that, just like you, people cannot see beyond the tip of their noses or in this case their own dogs... If you have a healthy and problem free Bulldog then you are the rare exception not the rule. If you REALLY love Bulldogs as I do, then you will find the lack of health in this great breed unacceptable. Since you missed the point of the video... It is not about which dog is the real deal... It is about the fact that the real deal was a healthy breed and the modern Bulldog is not.
The real Bulldog of old had NO hip problems... No heart problems... NO skin problems and so on. The fact that the modern Bulldog tops the list of breeds as far as health problems are concerned is what this video is complaining about. Health should always be more important than "looks" in a dog IF you truly love your dog. If the dog is nothing more than a status symbol then "looks" of course are paramount to you. I adore all of the bully breeds and I hope one day soon we will restore their health
Also remember that Bulldogs "act" healthy even when they are in pain since they are one of the most stoic dogs around.
So, just because your Bulldog seem healthy right now does not mean that he truly is...
I have traveled the world over and done more research on that subject than I can even get into here.
I do hope for your dog's sake that he truly is one of those rare Bulldogs who have no problems now or later on. Chances are that he is suffering from something you might not even know about.
Well if you don't mind I prefer to treat my dog with love and care regardless of these "health" problem. You sound like some dog Nazi. Regardless of what history did to create these animals. they are here and many people have them as pets and love them. I don't care if they once didn't have heart problems, or hip problems. What are we supposed to say this dog isn't perfect so lets forget him. I run a rescue so sorry if I'm coming off rude.
I don't understand what makes it so difficult for you to understand this... I want breeders to make a serious effort to breed HEALTHY Bulldogs. Do you prefer a dog that is suffering...??? Anyone in their right mind wants their beloved K9 kids to live healthy and happy lives. Jesus, what is so hard to understand about this...? Of course I would never say let's forget about a dog that is sick... I am saying let's make a serious effort to try and BETTER the overall health of this breed. HELLO...???
I love dogs more than anything in this world. If my dog gets sick I take care of them in any and every way possible. My dogs are my children. I treat them and love them that way.
This is precisely the reason why I am so angry at breeders who don't give a shit about whether or not their dogs are healthy... Because the dog suffers... The people who fell in love with the dog suffer... And all this because we want a dog that has no face, wrinkles and looks as exaggerated as possible.
It is not fair to the dogs that we as humans breed them with only a certain "look" in mind no matter how much the dog suffers for our fashion sense sakes. If you have a heart at all then you want, if possible at all, for your dog to be as healthy as possible. If you don't care whether or not your dog is happy and healthy then you are your own dog's worst and most foul enemy.
I will do anything to make sure my dogs are healthy and happy. Because I truly love them and I care how they feel.
You are smiling because you are an idiot. You don't honestly believe I would not approve your silly and false arguments? You are the poster child for dog breeding morons and I LOVE that you are posting here.
While you are smiling the rest of us are laughing... AT YOU.
The great thing about you is that you do not possess the intelligence that some of the other breeders who try to defend the bad breeding practices wield.
I love that you came here to expose yourself. Anyone who cares enough can check and confirm that you are wrong about almost everything you stated.
This conversation is over and no more posts will be approved but thank you for the ones you left.
We all appreciate you being the G.W Bush of dog breeding.
The bulldog was consciously changed by breeders that saved breed, by outcrossing them, from extinction from the vicious bull baiting dog to a family companion dog that is low maintenance. The rear of a bulldog is no narrower then any other breed, its the wide tacked on shoulders that give that EFFECT! They 'normally' have c-sections to due a medical condtion called inertia (when the uterus fails to contract with sufficient force). Please can you get your facts right before making a video!
This person here is a "breeder" of bulldogs. Of course you can expect this response from someone who makes a living selling sick and suffering dogs for hard cash.
Anyone asking themselves who to believe consider this...
Would you believe reputable and experienced Vets or the person who wants to get their hands on your wallet...?
This video was made by vets.
Believing this person would be like believing the used car salesman above the friend mechanic you brought along to help.
PMSL! Excuse me! I've got a full time job! I don't need to 'make money' from breeding dogs! Get a grip! As you can see in MY VIDEOS! All my dogs are healthly! I woud be a reputable experienced that lives with the breed EVERYDAY over a VET THAT IS IN IT FOR THE MONEY AS IT'S THEIR JOB!!!
It always amazes me how people who pretend to love dogs set aside all reason and turn a blind eye to the suffering of their "loved" ones in order to have that poor animal fit their own twisted idea of beauty. No matter how crippled the dog as long as it looks a certain way.
Add some breeder greed to the mix and you get a person like this one defending the demented practice of breeding sick dogs for profit.
What a sick and fucked up world we live in where we treat man's best friend like this.
I think you need to reassess your opinions! I don't breed dogs for profit, infact if I did I would have a very failed business. I have around 1 litter per year for my own 'line progression'! I breed dogs as a hobby and produce consistantly good HEALTLHY DOGS that can live like any other dog! I think your the sick screwed up one with a narrow choice of wording. I mean do actually OWN any bull breed? What exprience do you have?
Please read my statement correctly, i said the breed was saved from extinction due to the banning of bullbaiting by a small group of breeders. Jeeze you don't even know the history of the breed. As your video says, Bulldogs then weren't a defined type, so I agree the pitbull is nearer these fightining beasts you talk about, what's that to boast about? I dont' want a dog that can savage a kid in my house!
To make the statement that an English Bulldog is a low maintenance dog compared to a Pitbull lets say is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Read up on the stats what kind of dogs die early, have heart problems, HD and so on... The Bulldog tops the list while the Pitbull is not even ON the list. So much for creating a "low maintenance dog".
LOL!!
The Pitbull is in fact the LOWEST maintenance dog there is.
This information is available to anyone who cares to take the time to research it.
How many pitbulls are bred a year? and how many bulldogs are born a yea? rPlease pro-rata any health conditions, thats simple math. Not that I was comparing, but talking generally. Jeeze you are narrow minded.
The Pitbull is a much more common dog these days than the English bulldog...
Again I thank you for not being smart enough to hide the fact that you are clueless and wrong.
The Pitbull population is roughly 6 times that of the English bulldog and STILL you do not even see the Pitbull in the top 30 breeds as far as breed related problems are concerned.
The English bulldog TOPS the lists all over the world.
I agree with most of what you said. I think that the re-creation of the bulldog of old is a great idea. But I think there is still a long way to go before we can say we have a healthy powerhouse bulldog of old. For now I still say that a stocky pitbull is the closest thing we have to the true old time bulldog.
Once the Olde Bulldogge (bulldouge is incorrect spelling) is perfected I will be the first in line for a new family member.
the original bulldog, which they recreated is called the old english bulldouge is simillar to the bulldog but because to remake them they used the bullmastiff , the american pit bull terreir , the bull terrir and the engiish bulldog, and the remake of the olld bulldogs are beutifull dogs that look like the ones in the pictures shown in this film.
The show bulldog is mostly pug. The real bulldog is something like what we call (gasp) pit bull or the smaller and lightly built lines of the American bulldog.
So the shorter bulldog is the showdog: personally I think both are "special" yet more so the origional Real Bulldog. My Champ (miss him so) looked more like the origional just a tiny bit short on the legs & same type of snarlt/the nose as the real bulldog. Their not pretty yet lovely & also didn't realize that they were hunting dogs. I couldn't see the shorter dog although they got gusto to them/go hunting like a real bulldog. Sad, that they are rare to find. Thanks for sharing, Beast!
At least the American Bulldog look like it can do the job it was bred to do. English bulldogs today would not last a minute...

Its disgusting what people have done to the breed, its not right how can anyone say that the dog is fine, its unhealthy and nothing like the dog of the past :(

The new style English bulldogs and American bullies are pieces of crap. Real bulldogs can work.

@neurocytohemotoxic
No dog is a piece of crap. The fact that you would call any dog, functional or not, a piece of crap makes you unworthy of the company on ANY dog.
MandyLionWWIII 11 months ago
@MandyLionWWIII They are a piece of crap. If a dog can't work it should be culled.
apbtdobe 2 months ago
@neurocytohemotoxic I agree. The thing that kills me about American Bullies is that they call them Pit Bulls. They are a disgrace to real APBTs.

I prefer the old bulldog! they are more attractive and athletic...

No offense my friend...
But if you had any comprehensive skills you would realize that the tiny little bit of correct information you have is in agreement with the video.
I looked at your channel. While you are very obviously a novice at least you took time to read a book or two before you recorded your videos.
So... Once again...
WATCH the video and you will realize (or maybe not) that everything said in the video here agrees with what you keep repeating in your videos

@MasterOfAllBulldogs
Bulldogge.
MandyLionWWIII 11 months ago
@MasterOfAllBulldogs
You're throwing stones at people who are just as confused as you are.
You and them are the SAME.
The other people you are yelling about are trying to recreate the original using THEIR formula and fail.
You are trying to recreate the original using YOUR formula and fail.
You are both producing good dogs in some, not all, people's eyes.
Stop throwing stones since you are in a glasshouse and be honest about what you do. You try to breed good dogs just like they do. That's all.
MandyLionWWIII 11 months ago
@MasterOfAllBulldogs
Good luck to you and your dogs

The English Bulldog: incapable of breeding, are unfit, cannot breath, its jaws do not fit and as likely to survive a bull attack as a rabbit.
Actually that's not true.
The rabbit would run away. Meanwhile, the English Bulldog dies.

JoeskaMG 1 year ago

Good bye.
MandyLionWWIII 1 year ago
@YeOldeDogge Yea you seem kinda mental if you like today bull dogs. They use to be taller and more athletic like todays APT
Scooda912 1 year ago
I don't want my kinds growing up pathologically obsessed with their health, just as I don't want them abusing hard drugs. Presumably you believe we should embark on a program of developing the untimate super-fit dog, and make all dogs a carbon copy of it with all other breeds sterilised. Perhaps you have similar views about people to.
YeOldeDogge 1 year ago
@YeOldeDogge
If you don't get that I can't explain
MandyLionWWIII 1 year ago
@MandyLionWWIII Let us be clear about one thing... Dogs are animals, and like all animals (including) they must grow old, suffer ill health and sadly die. By fanatically breeding dogs forever healthier, all you are actually doing is delaying this process, not preventing it. People keep dogs in thier homes purely as companions, whose physical needs go little beyond their daily walks. If a dog has a reasonable QUALITY of life then that is fine with me.
YeOldeDogge 1 year ago
@YeOldeDogge
Your false assumption set aside...
MandyLionWWIII 1 year ago
@YeOldeDogge
Let me guess...
MandyLionWWIII 1 year ago
@YeOldeDogge
And please... Do not make assumptions on where I stand on any issue regarding dogs or humans. If you want to know what my thoughts are on any given subject just ask.
But PLEASE stop assuming and putting words in my mouth.
MandyLionWWIII 1 year ago
If you want a bull-baiting type dog then get something like a pitbull that might just cost the life of a child relative. What is needed is a happy medium between the original baiters and the plodding cripple of today. A dog that preserves the distinctive bulldog look but is reasonably healthy and whose appearance is not exaggerated to the point of charicature. The are many breeders today adopting that approach - Ken Mollett's Victorian Bulldog being one fine example.
YeOldeDogge 1 year ago
@YeOldeDogge
The fact that you assume that a pitbull is more dangerous than any other breed shows your ignorance about dogs.
I find very interesting that all of the horror stories about pitbulls are told by people who never owned a pitbull...
On the other hand... People who actually own pitbulls have nothing but great things to say about the breed.
Now...
If I said porsche makes shit cars and you found out that I have never owned nor driven one then how much credibility would you give me???
MandyLionWWIII 1 year ago
@YeOldeDogge
MandyLionWWIII 1 year ago
@MandyLionWWIII Absolutely - I do believe in 'reasonable' health. I do not believe in a master race of humans who live to be 150, and neither do I believe in
YeOldeDogge 1 year ago

just disgusting!
bezmolvie 1 year ago
Kind of reminds me of what they did to the pug (though I don't think they were ever athletic) Also the German Shepherd and many other breeds. You can also see this in some pits (I think the term for them is hippo.)
When the health of the breed is overlooked for what some call beauty, that's just pathetic. Give me a mutt any day of the week, or a working dog.
FallingandRunning 1 year ago
My intention is not to urgue with anybody, but you need to understand that you missing the forest for a tree,a fact is that the breed looks like this and thanks God it will still look like this. We born having this beautifull picture in our mind and this what we loved on them, and not what you or few others like. Buy a Staff or a Bitt and call it Bulldog if this is what you like and leave the rest of us enjoy what we have. This is must last answer to you.
TheKingsavvas 1 year ago
@TheKingsavvas
Your response does not surprise me one bit.
You are a breeder.
Not a SINGLE word about the health issues the Bulldog suffers from as a result of this "beauty" you so much love.
Not a single care about anything but YOUR idea of beauty regardless of what the dog has to suffer through.
You can go on denying all you want but the statistics make you a liar.
The Bulldog has the highest percentage of health problems compared to ALL other breeds.
You don't care. Call that love? NO!
MandyLionWWIII 1 year ago
@TheKingsavvas
MandyLionWWIII 1 year ago
@TheKingsavvas
GOOD FOR YOU!
MandyLionWWIII 1 year ago
2/3 Persons like this guy dislike bulldogs, they like bulldogs look like terriers, staffs or bitt bulls,at list this is what some pics of him showing. From the pics as he says he understands a healthy and a not healthy bulldog, how ?
TheKingsavvas 1 year ago
@TheKingsavvas
MandyLionWWIII 1 year ago
@TheKingsavvas
MandyLionWWIII 1 year ago
@TheKingsavvas
And...
Very, very sad...
MandyLionWWIII 1 year ago
The person on this video is not fair at all!
I'm a bulldog breeder the last 11 years and I raise more than a hundred Bulldogs, all of them healthy full of life and energy. Bulldogs are bodybuilders they are not marathon runers and sure not bull killers or killers at all. 1/2
TheKingsavvas 1 year ago
@TheKingsavvas
You are missing the point. No animal lover wants to see the horrible and inhumane spectacle of bull baiting today.
But...
Why do you think the breed is called "Bulldog"? It is not called "bodybuilder dog".
Is a Greyhound still a Greyhound if it runs lower than than the average Snail?
Is a GSD still a GSD if it has ZERO herding instincts?
A bulldog by definition should have the abilities it was originally bred to have because such a dog HAS TO BE 100 PERCENT healthy.
MandyLionWWIII 1 year ago
@MandyLionWWIII But yet why do we need 'bull' dogs just for the novelty? I really don't see the point of breeding dogs with strong fighting characteristics that no longer serve a purpose. These dogs are filling shelters due to their bad reputation, deserved or not. I totally agree with you on breeding healthy dogs, but I don't necessarily agree with breeding dogs in today's climate.
ebolaoutkast 1 year ago
@ebolaoutkast
Well...
MandyLionWWIII 3 weeks ago
@TheKingsavvas

There are of course healthy Bulldogs... Unfortunately that is not the rule but the exception.
It is a sad state of affairs when sickness becomes the norm and health becomes rare. It should be the other way around if we approach breeding the right way...
MandyLionWWIII 1 year ago
honestly id say the nearest the to the old english bulldog are boxer/pittbull mixes
nicholasbhicks 1 year ago
@nicholasbhicks
Actually... Pitbulls are the closest.
MandyLionWWIII 1 year ago
wouldnt it be awsome if we could clone pure breds that died over 100 years ago and breed them to modern pure breds to fix the existing bloodlines
nicholasbhicks 1 year ago
@nicholasbhicks
If that was possible that would be great.
But in reality we just need to start breeding for health and function instead of looks.
If we start doing this our breeds will improve...

its astounding how many different versions there are of one breed.... pits, amstaffs, staffy bulls, EB, AmBulls, American Bully, French Bull, Boston, Bull Terrier, etc etc etc etc.....
and lets not forget that classic myth that EBs have wrinkled faces because it was necessary as a way to channel the bull's blood away from the eyes... please.. it has NOTHING at all to do with the infusion of Pug.

Show bulldogs arent built for hard work, thats why they arent used for it and usually arent forced to have to fight or be physically able to have lightning reflexes like the old working dogs, who were not bred to look good, but to get a job done so really there is no call for a debate about this because it is only opinion, not FACT.
mangomarvels 2 years ago
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
There is NO denying a dog should be healthy and happy.
It always amazes me how showdog people look down on other dog abusers such as people who fight dogs and so on. They have caused as much if not more suffering upon not just individual dogs but entire breeds.
No doubt a dog fighter is less than human. I hate them for inflicting this kind of suffering on innocent dogs. But anyone who accepts a dog that suffers for "beauty" is a dog abuser and not far removed from the monsters who fight them.
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
And finally...
"Health" is "Beauty"...

Of all the dogs me and my family have had and bread, the bulldogs have had the least problems!
mpa208 2 years ago
The man in the video is a dog historian of great esteem with proof on his theories even a "breeder" such as yourself cannot cover up.
I understand why you would be offended by this video... The fact that more and more people are finding out how ruthless breeders are and how far they are willing to push their sick dogs is of course screwing up your business.
Folks... Breeders sell dogs. If the motivation is money the credibility goes right out the window. Who takes a used car salesman serious?
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
Your bulldogs may not have needed a C-section but as a vet, I have performed C-sections on a several bulldogs. It is fairly common for that to happen. Do your dogs have a proper EB gait and stance (like a football line backer)? The stance is due to the narrower hips and often results in C-sections.

....i know only one kind of dog i would call a Bulldog.
A well bred APBT.
Huhakungfu 2 years ago
there is no work for a bulldog to do since the banning of bullbaiting...
the bulldog was brought back from extinction by a few breeders as a companion dog
and how can you call an APBT a bulldog? Its an over exagerated terrier, totally different kind of dog altogether
tappajabba 2 years ago
The original bulldog was never extinct as we can see him in many still functioning bulldog type breeds today... Like the Pitbull, Am Bulldog (some lines) and so on.
There is no denying the fact that this perverted idea of beauty has created an animal that is not just unable to do what a bulldog should be able to do but is also not able to function in the most basic ways.
It has become riddled with skin disease, HD, heart disease, premature death, inability to breed or birth without asisstance.
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago

Razlorwowmaster 2 years ago
Of course Bulldog breeders are going to tell you what you want to hear... Just as a used car salesman will tell you what you want to hear. Breeders make money SELLING dogs. If they are honest about the problems of their dogs they will make no money.
If someone has something to gain by lying about their "product" in order to sell it any intelligent person will take anything they say with a grain of salt.
Being gullible will not make the Bulldog more healthy... Demanding a change will...
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
Ofc they are trying to sell their product, i´m not that naiv that i dont go visit the bulldogs myself to see if the breeders rly live up to their word! what, no ipods back there?! dont take me for some idiot, woul just have been nice to see 1 real picture instead of 10 painted ones! the bulldogs i have visited(and its many) have never showed any signs of suffering! and some of the breeders here in the south of sweden(yes, thats why my english is is bad)
Razlorwowmaster 2 years ago
Of course back then pictures were painted more often than photographed. Use some common sense here. I wonder whether or not you think people had Ipods back then...??? LOL!
The reason why other dogs have problems as well as you pointed out is for the same reasons why the Bulldog is crippled these days. It is because of breeders who perpetuate crippling exaggerations for the sake of money without a single care whether or not the animal in question will suffer and die an early death.
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
have their bitches giving birth on their own, the swedish kennelclub is abit better according breeed standards the the UK one! what i want to say is that i have seen that the breed is getting healthier and healthier and thats why i think u shouldnt be so hard on the race, cause there are ppl trying to make it bette! dont take it so personal, we all love the bullies becuase the have a personality like no other dog out there!
Razlorwowmaster 2 years ago
The fact that the bulldog has been completely ruined by money hungry egomaniacs is not up for discussion. This is a simple fact...
The Bulldog cannot breed naturally anymore...
The Bulldog cannot give birth naturally anymore...
The bulldog suffers from heart disease, early death, skin problems, difficulty breathing and the list goes on and on...
I know that there are people out there who simply do not want to see the truth. I, for one, love Bulldogs too much to ignore their suffering.

I just do not have the patients to deal with people who lack the comprehensive skills of a 5 year old.
You cannot argue with someone wanting healthy dogs unless you are completely insane.
Anyone who wants sick dogs is someone who should never be allowed around these wonderful creatures.
I have had children who saw this video understand it completely while you yourself admitted that you in fact did NOT understand it.
Your lack of intelligence has nothing to do with me. That is just genetics.
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
HAHA. I like how you think you're somehow special for putting up some video about one breed of dog. I don't have to prove or make myself look better to you. You're a petty childish miserable person. You throw around insults instead of having a conversation. Good luck
Kylestyle05 2 years ago
I don't think I am special about putting up a video...
I have been active in the fight against dog fighting on a global level for the last 20 years, have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars world wide to help bust dog fighting rings, I am in contact with every authority on all of the bully and mastiff breeds all over the world and I give 50 percent of all of my very considerable income to the benefit of dog rescues...
What are you doing to help???
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
I am right now in the process of putting together yet another benefit concert where I am performing for free and every dollar made goes to the benefit of non kill shelters...
I don't think I am special but the dogs most certainly are.
Your arguing skills show me your lack of intelligence... You responded like the 24 year old over grown child you are.
Grow up, educate yourself and think before you speak (or write) and no one will take offense anymore.
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
I'm glad you asked. I actually am a attorney for PETA. by my job definition alone we try to work in the best interest of ALL animals. I also started a english and french bulldog rescue in Texas. See I know I love animals, and I know there are others who do too. I don't go around spouting off insults about genetics or stupidity. I gave you the upmost respect and I would expect the same.
Kylestyle05 2 years ago
You did NOT give me respect... You called me a Nazi.
Peta is more about ego than it is about animals and more and more people are understanding this now... Hence the diminished popularity of Peta.
I am in it for the animals only...
As far as us having a conversation...
I have yet to see you even respond to the issue at all. You have not said that it is BETTER to breed healthy dogs... You have not yet said that you think it is WRONG to breed dogs that cannot breathe, run or breed without help.
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
I also cannot imagine you being an attorney since your arguing skills are that of a teenage girl.
Also... Peta has some extremely radical thoughts on breeds such as the Bulldog which no real dog lover can agree with... In fact YOUR attitude is the opposite of what Peta thinks about these poor sick dogs...

MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
Anyone who loves dogs knows the pain and suffering it causes when your beloved dog is suffering and eventually dying a painful death before your very eyes...
This is why I am so worked up about the subject. I have nursed many a dog through immense suffering which could have been easily avoided had the breeder cared enough to make sure the dogs he used for breeding were healthy specimen.
I hate anyone who causes suffering for dogs including abusers, careless breeders and clueless novices...
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
So I don't get it. so because these dogs aren't the real deal we shouldn't own them? I love my bulldog and he's in good health. I guess I'm missing your point in the video.
Kylestyle05 2 years ago
The problem is that, just like you, people cannot see beyond the tip of their noses or in this case their own dogs... If you have a healthy and problem free Bulldog then you are the rare exception not the rule. If you REALLY love Bulldogs as I do, then you will find the lack of health in this great breed unacceptable. Since you missed the point of the video... It is not about which dog is the real deal... It is about the fact that the real deal was a healthy breed and the modern Bulldog is not.
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
The real Bulldog of old had NO hip problems... No heart problems... NO skin problems and so on. The fact that the modern Bulldog tops the list of breeds as far as health problems are concerned is what this video is complaining about. Health should always be more important than "looks" in a dog IF you truly love your dog. If the dog is nothing more than a status symbol then "looks" of course are paramount to you. I adore all of the bully breeds and I hope one day soon we will restore their health
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago

HELLO...???
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
I love dogs more than anything in this world. If my dog gets sick I take care of them in any and every way possible. My dogs are my children. I treat them and love them that way.
This is precisely the reason why I am so angry at breeders who don't give a shit about whether or not their dogs are healthy... Because the dog suffers... The people who fell in love with the dog suffer... And all this because we want a dog that has no face, wrinkles and looks as exaggerated as possible.
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
It is not fair to the dogs that we as humans breed them with only a certain "look" in mind no matter how much the dog suffers for our fashion sense sakes. If you have a heart at all then you want, if possible at all, for your dog to be as healthy as possible. If you don't care whether or not your dog is happy and healthy then you are your own dog's worst and most foul enemy.
I will do anything to make sure my dogs are healthy and happy. Because I truly love them and I care how they feel.

Haha. I'm glady my comments have wound you up so much, but you fail to show them! Very sad, but i'm still smilling!

You are smiling because you are an idiot. You don't honestly believe I would not approve your silly and false arguments? You are the poster child for dog breeding morons and I LOVE that you are posting here.
While you are smiling the rest of us are laughing... AT YOU.
LOL

The great thing about you is that you do not possess the intelligence that some of the other breeders who try to defend the bad breeding practices wield.
I love that you came here to expose yourself. Anyone who cares enough can check and confirm that you are wrong about almost everything you stated.
This conversation is over and no more posts will be approved but thank you for the ones you left.
We all appreciate you being the G.W Bush of dog breeding.
Please Lord, throw brains from heaven!

Everyone...

BulldogFit4Function 2 years ago
Vets make money on sick animals... So... If even a vet tells you that Bulldogs are sick beyond repair it is a sad statement indeed.
Because common sense tells us that the more sick dogs people own the more money vets will make. This vid was made by vets...
This breeder thank goodness is not smart enough to even make a good argument.
Again... The proof is in the pudding... Bulldogs are internationally known to be one of the sickest breeds, if not the sickest breed.
Google it!

MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
I think you need to reassess your opinions! I don't breed dogs for profit, infact if I did I would have a very failed business. I have around 1 litter per year for my own 'line progression'! I breed dogs as a hobby and produce consistantly good HEALTLHY DOGS that can live like any other dog! I think your the sick screwed up one with a narrow choice of wording. I mean do actually OWN any bull breed? What exprience do you have?

I have been studying Bully and Mastiff breeds since the age of 11.
I own over 400 books in 9 languages on all Bully and Mastiff breeds.
I have the money and the ability to travel the world and do research on my passion which are dogs... Molossers in particular.
You are not the exception but the rule when it comes to money hungry dim witted breeders who try to justify their crimes with manufactured reasons...
Again... Anyone reading this take your time and research what I said.
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
The argument that breeding sick dogs made bull baiting stop is ridiculous and downright stupid.
Bull baiting stopped because it became illegal thank God.
The true and REAL Bulldog of old survived in breeds such as the PitBull, American Bulldog and so on...
The English Bulldog was created by breeder's whim and has no other reason behind it.
Breeding sick dogs for looks sake is a crime against man's best friend and anyone who loves dogs should avoid these kinds of breeders at all costs.
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
Please read my statement correctly, i said the breed was saved from extinction due to the banning of bullbaiting by a small group of breeders. Jeeze you don't even know the history of the breed. As your video says, Bulldogs then weren't a defined type, so I agree the pitbull is nearer these fightining beasts you talk about, what's that to boast about? I dont' want a dog that can savage a kid in my house!
BulldogFit4Function 2 years ago
You just exposed yourself as a doggie nazi as well...
Just like many of the other inbred idiots who think that Pitbulls are "bad" dogs...
There are NO bad dogs... ONLY bad owners and of course bad breeders as you have shown us so precisely today...
Thank you for that.
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
To make the statement that an English Bulldog is a low maintenance dog compared to a Pitbull lets say is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Read up on the stats what kind of dogs die early, have heart problems, HD and so on... The Bulldog tops the list while the Pitbull is not even ON the list. So much for creating a "low maintenance dog".
LOL!!
The Pitbull is in fact the LOWEST maintenance dog there is.
This information is available to anyone who cares to take the time to research it.
MandyLionWWIII 2 years ago
How many pitbulls are bred a year? and how many bulldogs are born a yea? rPlease pro-rata any health conditions, thats simple math. Not that I was comparing, but talking generally. Jeeze you are narrow minded.
BulldogFit4Function 2 years ago
The Pitbull is a much more common dog these days than the English bulldog...
Again I thank you for not being smart enough to hide the fact that you are clueless and wrong.
The Pitbull population is roughly 6 times that of the English bulldog and STILL you do not even see the Pitbull in the top 30 breeds as far as breed related problems are concerned.
The English bulldog TOPS the lists all over the world.

clearly the most SICKEST dog bree ever in history!!!!!!!!!!

the show bulldog more looks like it was crossed by a pug.. whyle the yesteryear bulldog looks like a pibull
16and30 2 years ago
I agree with most of what you said. I think that the re-creation of the bulldog of old is a great idea. But I think there is still a long way to go before we can say we have a healthy powerhouse bulldog of old. For now I still say that a stocky pitbull is the closest thing we have to the true old time bulldog.
Once the Olde Bulldogge (bulldouge is incorrect spelling) is perfected I will be the first in line for a new family member.
MandyLionWWIII 3 years ago
the original bulldog, which they recreated is called the old english bulldouge is simillar to the bulldog but because to remake them they used the bullmastiff , the american pit bull terreir , the bull terrir and the engiish bulldog, and the remake of the olld bulldogs are beutifull dogs that look like the ones in the pictures shown in this film.
dylanDaass 3 years ago
The show bulldog is mostly pug. The real bulldog is something like what we call (gasp) pit bull or the smaller and lightly built lines of the American bulldog.
Retrieverman1 3 years ago
So the shorter bulldog is the showdog: personally I think both are "special" yet more so the origional Real Bulldog. My Champ (miss him so) looked more like the origional just a tiny bit short on the legs & same type of snarlt/the nose as the real bulldog. Their not pretty yet lovely & also didn't realize that they were hunting dogs. I couldn't see the shorter dog although they got gusto to them/go hunting like a real bulldog. Sad, that they are rare to find. Thanks for sharing, Beast!
