  • @TheCollisionofworlds You probably really hurt that kid's feelings! Haha!

  • All those amazing guitars and they couldn't get an acoustic guitar strap and tie it around the nut?

  • Hell yeah!! MORE THIN LIZZY PLEASE!!

  • that would be one hell of a guitar for recording

  • If sting played in 1949 message in a bottle.???? How would the world be????

  • I wanted to go to the store, until I saw it's in Canada. So far :(

  • @CaptainHurpDurp I am 90% sure there in Venture, California. PhilX Is Canadian, maybe thats where you got it from.

  • @CaptainHurpDurp It's in southern California?

  • That's the kind of guitar I wouldn't allow myself within 10 feet of for fear of accidentally destroying it in a phenomenally stupid and clumsy bull in a china shop episode.

That thing sounds really sweet though man.

  • Allright, Who else is buying Daughtry's first record just for Phil X?

  • @Floridaboy7777 nobody because even though he played on it daughtry still sucks ass

  • @TheCollisionofworlds Agreed! but would you buy just the isolated guitar tracks of phil x?

  • @Floridaboy7777 It's a really good album.

  • OMG, what a beautiful guitar.

  • God, your camera used to be suck. Glad you finally switched to a HD camera.

  • If I walked into this guy's store, I'd be walking out with a dozen damn guitars. And I'd be broke as hell, but hey, who cares!!

  • "Hey! I'm fucking stoned!"

  • Are some people people stupid? They ask what song he's playing right after Phil said "Lets see if we can do American Woman with the neck pickup of this guitar"

  • Man. This guy just loves life! hahaha

  • @fraqie1995 Sending out an SOS by the Police

  • Phil and Frettedamericana, your videos make me so happy! I love watching and seeing all the different guitars! Thanks! If you guys respond i just may have a seizure.

  • Phil and frettedamericana, i absolutely love your videos. They make me so happy! And if you guys respond i just might have a seizure.

  • this guy is completely nuts to presents guitars like this one. Kill it.

  • i like how Phil x almost always starts off by screaming and then follows up in grinning :) and by the way phil x you rule!!!\m/

  • It would be such a sin to drill strapholes in that guitar, too bad cause it rocks man..

  • I own one of the remaining 11. I think mine used to belong to BIlly Thompson guitarist for Hank Thompson back in the early 50's. Definitely one of the finest electric instruments I've ever owned/played, and I have owned plenty. The laminate top is actually a design feature to keep it from feeding back, like some of the carved top archtops I have used do. The middle pickup is wired out of phase to get that T-Bone tone too. A great instrument.

  • thats awesome! whats a guitar like that worth retail?

  • Boss guitar. Boss player. That is all.

  • he is from daughtry? i dont know how to write this thing hahahaha

oh shit ¬¬ he is much better than daughtry ¬¬ get out of this band!! hahahaha

  • wow that was great... lol. i love seeing the old guitars play contemporary stuff.

  • Phil X is definitely a rocker not jazzer. But the good news is this guitar holds up very well in any of the things played by Phil. And demoing it in jazz mode only wouldn't do it justice either.

  • Oh yeah! Thin Lizzy! Great riff.

  • can you do that red gibson es 355

  • cool vid!

  • I bet Phil X could learn jazz....and fast. But I don't mind. Guy's a genius.

  • The people who are interested in buying these guitars are vintage guitar collectors with lots of money and professionals who know what they will use the guitar for. These videos are just to show the instruments in action in the hands of a very capable player, and most of all for the fun of it. Also, frettedamericana are not going to go out and hire new guys for each guitar to suit the "style." You can do whatever you want with your own vintage guitar store.

  • @Jrg320 ahhhhhh A well thought out and intelligent comment... Thanks Jrg320!!

  • @frettedamericana No problem. I love the work you guys do.

  • isnt this a es 5?

  • Thx guys!!Rock on!!!

  • nice my man you can really play better than others.

  • Phil X is awesome Canuck.. When are you coming back to visit?

  • the police ahhh

  • 4:02 oh my lord the toanz

  • I dig Phil X. He knows alot of shit and can play guitar really fine. Go X!

  • This guitar sounds great in the hands of Mr Phil ...

  • I think Phil should have had a short back and sides haircut, worn a 1940's suit, trilby hat and spats before being allowed to go anywhere near that guitar. This is because only people who look like that should be allowed near a 1940's guitar. Forget 'evolution of ideas' and all that guff because all the critics who play '57 reissue Strats obviously try to look like B-movie cowboys! Can't you hand tint the film too?

  • is it possible to make a hum-bucker out of P90's?? just thought it would be sick

  • I know you should play jazz on it....but didn't Chuck Berry play something similar?

  • i think that guitar is a Gibson ES-5 Switchmaster

  • i wanna see the history of the japanese guitar

  • Phil X, you're clearly a pretty good rock player and an entertaining character to match, but a guitar like this needs to play jazz. If someone showed you a Dean Razorback through a Triple Rec and only played country music on it, do you think that would be a fair demo?

If you don't know how to play jazz, either learn or find someone who can.

  • so fuckin awesome great sound......

  • you nerds are HATING, philx totally nailed this video. obv the dude does not play jazz, relax.

  • he played thin lizzy, i will marry you phil.

  • Are you going to play Jazz with these guitars one day?

  • please play jazzzz on these old gibson archtops

  • Second I clicked on the video, I thought to myself, "Self, how much do want to bet ol' Phil won't play music the guitar was designed for, instead he'll enlighten us with yet even more of his vast knowledge of 70's classic rock riffs?'

Phil's a good guy, but I'm not sure if he's aware music was actually made by people before 1965.

  • I'd like to see that guitar in the hands of some one who knows what to do with it.

  • @bugsycline really - well let's see what you can do...

  • @frettedamericana YEA i would love to see what that tool can do. i'm probably no better but don't bash this guy he kicksass! rock on!

  • @frettedamericana Oh I'd be happy to try and demo that guitar!!! and NOT only play rock on it like that guy!

  • @frettedamericana don't be an idiot, that was a disgrace to the insturment, contrary to the amazing work Phil's done before.

  • @AngusSlash I don't recall calling anybody any names.. (This time) I obviously have to disagree but will post your opinion...

  • @bugsycline calm down Phils a Pro

  • @bugsycline Men this guy rules !

  • @bugsycline It's not that he can't play the guitar, he can't play jazz. He is a really good guitarist when it comes to rock. I know what you mean though, it is always nice to hear the guitar been played songs of the musical genre in which the guitar was designed to play.

  • @bugsycline lmaso at you mr. know it all.

  • @bugsycline What the hell are you talking about guitars with p-90s are pretty much made for high-gain and feedback tricks that's what makes them so cool just because hollowbodies were designed for jazz doesn't mean that's the only style you can play on them that's just being closed minded I thought what Phil was doing was great I do that kinda stuff with the p-90s on my sg all the time

  • @bugsycline you're right. This guy is nuts.

  • i laughed so hard at 4:35

    "that was like a boat!"

  • whats the song at 3:05 minute?

  • @paclover100 message in a bottle by the police

  • Dude. Phil just made that guitar his bitch!

  • its funny how he played on daughtrey's record as a studio musician, but came up with the riff that moulded doughtreys most famous song.

  • Man... I love the fact that you have priceless guitars and you're having fun with it...jamming out to Thin Lizzy on a prototype 1949 Gibson is pure rock. You rule.

  • If the guitar doesn't have a strap peg, cant you just use one of those things that ties around the headstock?

  • sorry, but it freakin' sound like a 150 dollar guitar :-O

  • @brando18guitarplyr

I assume you mean when he plays it with distortion, and that's because a big hollowbody w/ P90 single coils will feedback as soon as you look at it. It wasn't built to be played that way, but some people make it work. That's a beautiful guitar with a beautiful tone, but you can certainly make it sound "ugly", although many would also call THAT beautiful.......:)

  • 4:05 to 4:30 it's like he's playing a lightning bolt

  • 4.35 best sound ever

  • Phil, great review, just a question, why did you write for daughtry and not just create the song for yourself?

  • @ondeckcru

hey man, i didn't write the song. according to most songwriters, it's just a riff. the song needed an intro and i came up with that on the spot which is my job. it'd be nice for royalty purposes if it was considered songwriting but it's not.

  • i FLIPPINLOVE THIS GUITAR!!

  • the best part is playing heavy metal/hard rock on a 1949 archtop guitar keep up the good work :)

  • Okay his funny antics aint that funny

  • bitter phil x haters

  • do you have any other players working at the guitar shop this dude is played out

  • i like this guy, gives real character to an interview

  • I love how this guy shows that every guitar can rock the f*ck out! Lovin' it!

  • 0:45

My guitar teacher has that book!

  • it's just a castaway...now u know

  • The first strums at 1:16 sounded almost just like Wire's song "Outdoor Miner". 3:35 Is a great guitar part too, I didn't notice this before but the Message In A Bottle guitar riff also has a similar effect that 3:35 has. Great demo!

  • @101Volts I meant to say 2:35. Not 3:35! I must have had Gibson's ES-335 on the mind

  • 1:55 It's totally in your face xD

  • When you played american women it sounds like the white stripes guitar solos EPIC!

  • How can you not love this guy?

  • whats the song he plays at 2:58?

  • @andrewcy17 it's "message in a bottle" isnt it?

  • why are you showing always the same fucking pictures of the ac30 and the tonemaster?

  • @jaguarguitar so YOU can see what the amps look like?? I could show NO pictures...

  • @jaguarguitar

    to piss you off

  • @jaguarguitar WHY THE FUCK DO YOU FUCKING CARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • And that was Thin lizzy, on this, eh, insane guitar :D

  • so, if it doesnt have a strap peg on the upper side, would you have to use ur strap like the old acoustics (up at the headstock)?

  • Phil X Rocks!!!!

  • Jail break!!! Love it dude...

  • sounds pretty rock n roll to me well for back then and u dont usualy associate semi or hollow bodys for metal

  • damn. this thing is sweeeet. i want one like it but not so super huge

  • get a ibanez as 73 man its awesome

  • i got an es125 that looks like it predates the production ones... no serial number, and a pickguard on left and right handed sides... really tall volume and tone, and the trapezoid talepiece does not have the diamond shape thing on it... p90 with adjustable pole pieces, and the back is arched... i need help ppl!!!!!

  • This is NOT a rock and roll or metal guitar.Thisis a JAZZ guitar.

  • You can play whatever you want on any guitar.

  • @shecky308 All guitars can rock with a little bit of mojo.

  • Hey!!!!! I have one of these! Awesome!

  • So COOL~~~~~~

  • do you know were i can find that guitar in indiana

  • i have that book!

  • If you really want to use You Tube to sell this guitar, I would recommend: (1) less talking and more playing; and (2) featuring somebody who can play the kind of music people who would buy this guitar are interested in playing (hint: it's not The Police or The Guess Who).

  • Thanks for the advice... as you can see this guitar is sold..

  • @frettedamericana

Not use the cliche... but.... pwnt.

  • @frettedamericana I think phill is the best choise there is to demo these guitars. And the guitar was alraddy sold so he did do a good job ^^

  • Dude, Phil X is the defenition of cool...This guy is one of the most FUN, gifted, and versitile players around... PERIOD ! He`s so cool, he could sell your own house back to you, and take your wife as a bonus...

    or NOT !

  • Hey dtrailen!

    SHUSH!

  • @dtrailen whats that?derp derp derp you say?

  • @dtrailen lol you douchebag old comment i know but dude really u should of read the title and phil x is so damn good he can talk as much as he wants and sell guitars

  • @dtrailen I seriously doubt anyone under the age of 50 would even remember this guitar, so I'm not sure what you're getting at here. You would buy this guitar to play older songs anyway because it would most likely match the sound you would be looking for.

  • @dtrailen If you don't like the way they do things, just fuck off. Nobody needs or wants your stupid comments

  • oh oh...he got hair gel on the strings and neck

  • damn thats the best sounding neck pickup i've ever heard

  • very cool then...

  • bet that would be pricy

  • why three pickups...should have either two p90s or humbuckers...this guitar has been raped by some douche who doesn't appreciate what gibson does....I'm selling my 57' on ebay now....its a blonde mint condition es 350T with HUMBUCKER PICKUPS.....all original.....all mint.....check it out....its at about 7 thousand right now....

  • This is a prototype my friend and completely original... read the description

  • Holy crap... it's from 1949, but you don't give a shit dude! You hammered that thing, awesome job. Glad to see I'm not the only one who would play the shit out of a really vintage axe rather than stuff it in some stupid display case.

You can lay your hands on my '35 Vogue B anytime. Although it's an acoustic :P

  • and how much is that geetar in the window? $10 $20 grand

  • 0:46-0:52, LOL the sound effect was perfect for that!

  • less talking, more playing.

  • whats the guitar in the back left

  • ES-345 or ES-355 either 1 i forget which 1 has a maestro

  • It's an ES-355, because the 345 has a different inlay, similar to the inlays on the double necks. Also a lot of ES-345's don't have tremolos.

  • HEY MAN

    lol

  • 1:56-1:59 love the expression

  • : O

  • wait... isn't daughtry a band? shouldn't they be writing their own stuff, or at least playing it in the studio? -_-

what has happened to rock 'n' roll?...

  • Bands don't always write and play everything they do.

The Beatles called in Clapton to play on While My Guitar Gently Weeps, the Eagles played songs that were written by or with the help of Jackson Browne and J.D. Souther, Sting was in the studio when Money for Nothing was recorded and he came up with the outro vocals that sound a lot like Don't Stand so Close to Me. The list can go on.

I think it's cool when a band is open minded enough to call in musicians to give a different perspective.
