  • You need to learn how to play it before you can teach it

  • wtf bro

  • You're a great guitar player dude keep this shit up

  • thanks dude i was able to add to my version of it

  • why cant you talk that would make it ten times easier

  • best lesson on youtube, thanks a lot! I learned it right away

  • the thing is please i need help i would like to play that song with chord and at the same time little stuff not very technik but very efficient

  • hey man cut those strings off before you poke an eye out good lesson thanks

  • good vid thanks dude

  • it would be better with some sort of voice or tabs...

  • plz can you do a voice over or something? its quite hard to know whats going on!

  • To all you would-be critics:

GO BACK TO PLAYING GUITAR HERO so you can really feel like you know what you're talkin' 'bout, and leave the real playing to people who invest many many more hours LEARNING HOW TO PLAY!

One of the greatest learning tools in existence is the ability to TEACH what you know to someone who's willing and able to learn!

THIS WORKS IN ALL FORMS OF ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE - AND AT ALL LEVELS AS WELL!

  • right u r

  • @doubledge101 - guitar snob alert! There is no teaching going on when the teacher doesn't talk

  • NOW - don't forget - this is "YouTube", where I'm sure you can find a bizillion flaws any which way you look.

That being said, I might also point out that regardless of what you think about the quality of this clip, it's creator, "ronkminuslab" is around here somewhere and MIGHT BE AVAILABLE to enter into a 2-way dialogue (or at least answer QUESTIONS) and that, my friend, would constitute a true teacher/student learning environment, NO?

  • Hendrix rarely (maybe never) played BAR CHORDS! Instead, he did that "thumb over" with a "F" chord fingering style, which gave him a lot of modulation options - and a unique sound.

I'm sure someone came up with a name for that chord style - I really don't know what you'd call it - maybe just "Hendrix thumb-over style"

    Works for me!

  • He doesn't tell you how to play the song!

  • HEY!, EASY WITH THAT FINGER BUB!

  • nice work

  • nice one bro great song am stoked

  • sweet

  • maybe if you talked i could get a better understanding? theres a lot going on here, don't be camera shy. nice playing though.

  • Next time position your camera so that we see the fingers exactly like you see them, from your point of view, so we see what you see.

That's what a guitarist wants to see. I understand that most vids show the back of your hands, well' that's why I get my songs out of a tape, not out of a vid.

  • i like it, but your guitars not tuned right for the song

  • its in half step probably

  • itd be a better tutorial if you could tune your guitar...

  • this is a good tutorial, but unfortunately it is not 100% accurate to how the song goes... pretty close though : )

  • Helpful vid. Thanks. I like the way you break down each part. Of course the real fingerings of Jimi were determined by his disproportionately large hands (he stood about five nine but had the mitts of guy six six) and he further utilized this of course by extending the thumb all the way over the neck pretty much all the time, etc.

  • guitar is not in tune!

  • This is an awesome video. Whoever can't understand it should really consider learning another instrument because maybe guitar isn't for you... haha

  • dude, i am a guitarist to but, that was pretty good at the beginning

  • What a douche man maybe if someone enjoys playing they should stick with it. Dont like people like you putting others down

  • This is one of the coolest versions of this song i've seen. Love the way you transition from chords to notes. scuze me while i kiss the sky!

  • really good version but it would be a lot more helpfull if you spoke

  • sorry, but i couldn't see anything, --Again, pleaseeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fukkin clip off your strings !!!!!

  • thank you...

  • look up tabs if u wanna know the chords this lesson is great

  • Teachers usually teach. You did not. Do you have a really high pitched voice and are embarassed?

  • let's say i let the music speak :)

  • iplanttrees that's a fairly ignorant comment...

  • @iplanttrees8875 It's quite possible that he is unaware of a global, universally understood, spoken language and thought that perhaps if he included close-ups of which notes he was playing that it would be of use no matter what language the listener understood. Why the attacks and insults?

  • you really sweat urself there man.. and thats a really good version of the song

  • the a-string should be muted :O

  • 5*

    yeah

  • talk you artard

  • yr not really showing anything man, i wanna know the chords

  • thanx alot for this lesson

    its much appreciated :)

  • DICK!

  • bravo dude well done it helped alot

  • Cool. Nice job man!

  • Hey dipshit fags, I commend this man for even taking the time and effort to make a video to help others. What have you fuckfaces contributed here? A whole bunch of nothing.

He even states, ".. some mistakes.. i hope that'll help you though" Chew on that when you're on your way to the air guitar competition.

  • this is all wrong dude

  • what kind of guitar you have?

  • cheap peavey raptor

  • if ur referring to usin the thumb to fret the low E string then maybe u should look a little closer he is doing that for the most part.. when you make a video and can play like hendrix then you can make criticisms

  • Yes please!

  • Nice, but if you listen carefully, you will notice, that not a single time does Jimi play a full chord.

  • i never thought about it like that but your right he lets guitar 2 do all the chord work

  • right you are.. i simplified some parts.. nevertheless hendrix plays his songs differently every single time though...

  • We have a tie this year between Doombot2point0 and sunnymunch for the dumbest most unprovoked flaming, ever.

  • why don't you use your thumb ;)

  • i do, in several parts :-P .. but i don't do it throughout the entire song.. i'd like to but i don't have super long fingers ..unlike jimi :)

  • lol yeah jimi had super long fingers he was like a "strat choker" lolz

  • this video would be so much better if you didnt repeat things a bunch of times and maybe if you talked

  • thanks. I was having trouble with some of this song and then I watched this and it really helped me. :)

  • This"cat"??? the 1920's is over man.

  • see here 'man'

jimi fucking hendrix himself said cat.

    kinda why i said it

  • cut your strings off :D

  • 5:41 wat finger placement o.o?

  • sweet

  • why couldnt u just speak, it wud have made it so much easier. good work though.

  • thank very much for you will to teach others this beutiful song

  • at about 3:11 you should be playing the exact same thing on the B string instead of the G string.

  • strat :)

  • It's funny to me when I read some of these comments. A guy posts a quick vid to help a friend and 18,000 views later he's got a collection of remarks as if the posters paid him for the lesson. ;)

  • lol ^^ ur right, mate ^^ its kinda funny :-P

  • I want my money back.

    jk :) Thanks for sharing!

  • lol.. playing in a G-skale over a G-chord is quite logical, isn't it?

i just did a friend (CamProud) a favor and uploaded a SLOW and SPLIT version of that song... i did not even try to show the exact notes of that song... btw: its music....

i u wanna hear the original, buy the CD.. if u wanna play, than make musik urself ...

thank you for comment, though ....

  • Perhaps I was a bit horrible in my last comment.

  • lol, i liked how you thanked him for commenting...gave me a smirk

  • Lol, don't talk like you know what your talking about. Instead of a Bm its Em7.

  • hey smart guy (masterdug)

before you try and act like a music theory bad ass you should know that

A: Am pent and Bm have the are both contained inside the Gmajor scale, its ALL THE SAME NOTES.

B: Jimi wasn't a music theory nerd and didn't think in terms of scales.

  • right you are :)

good music is really not just about notes..

  • mainly LSD <:)

  • It's both xD He learned music theory on acid, I learned it that way myself. And he used music theory but he understood that its like when someone teaches you to paint, you really just take what you want from it and approach it your own way

  • well...im a rhythm guitarist...although i do blues improvisation its only the minor pentatonic scale and that scale is so easy to improv...but im mainly a rhythm guitarist...you did teach me this song though and i thank you...great job man

  • Man i think was real harsh, its a bad state of affairs when guitarists turn on each other, but hey the world is full of people hating everybody else now ,its real sad that this guys puts up some of his playing for free and gets abuse for it. but hey i guess thats the way the world is right now... real sad.

I think it is a cool improvised version, i enjoyed it.

  • nope not learning, ha ha....

maybe I could get a guitar first, thanks.

  • well well . the lesson is okay,

but it's not just the notes--

it's still about the feeling.. and i kinda miss a little of that..

    greetings anyway

  • learn the notes first and then try out some stuff :) .. ur right, that song is quite all about feeling :) try to variate timing and power :)

  • thanks alot :) it helped me much ^^

    5 STARS!! :D

  • kiddyjihns maybe u need to learn to play guitar and then u can try to learn a music from a video. The lesson is very good

  • thanks

  • no offense but ur way off

  • that is a gud cover!

  • Never mind what people may say about your tuning,You play that song very well,I love it and thanks for the Tip. You got Skills man and I wish people would stop player hating on you.

  • no, its slightly out of tune but its because he has new strings on the guitar...its a good lesson though

  • right you are... but its good like that :) its music not copying ;)

  • good effort, everyone seems to play it slighlty differently hendrix included, pick out the bits you like make it your own and enjoy playing ;-) keep em comin

  • u need to be cappable of playin' quite good ...im just playin it slowly, showing my (and an easy) way of playin' it...

  • nah i learned it its not that you have to be good at all i'm sayin the style of lesson is rather useless sorry

  • this is a pretty shitty lesson sorry to say i'm trying to learn the song and this video didn't help me much at all

  • it's not as clear as some other videos out there, but I am finding it pretty helpful

he slows down and tries to break down the segments, even if he doesn't explain everything straight out

  • i think the reason his guitar is a little out of tune is he just put on fresh strings and they hadn't fully stretched out yet

    just a thought

  • thats true...its a bitch tuning your guitar when you have new strings....stretching the strings out then tuning and stretching them again helps the guitar stay in tune.

  • You can boil you're new strings in hot water for about 5 minutes to stretch them, just make sure you dry them or they will rust,I just use a cheap plastic string stretcher that most music stores carry when I put new strings on nowdays, works great everytime.

  • i just strum the hell out of my guitar until it stays in tune..

  • I do that with marbles...

  • hey man, when you put new strings on, the strings don't actually stretch, the part of the string wrapped around the tuning peg actually tightens, thus causing the string to fall a out of tune

  • True about the tuning pegs, but strings do stretch and I've been playing and doing guitar tech work for over 24 years, playing the shit out of the axe and doing lots of bending works also.

  • Sorry man,but they DO stretch, been setting up guitars for years, you can prove this with a locking nut and new strings which totally takes the tuning keys out of the picture but keep in mind unless you keep your Floyd Rose tight to the body by tightening the springs you will have a free floating bridge.I like mine tight,LOL,but you are right about the tuning peg.I don't upload vids of my 25 years of playing because everybody has to be an asshole or critic and don't bother to read caption at top.

  • Thanks for making this,it helped me out when the tab was wrong ;)

  • Tune your guitar better. It is very bad. Nice Improv though. You should look at some better tab if your doing an intructional video though. The version I have up isn't perfect either. I'm still working on it. Its a very hard song because the backwards guitar can be confusing from the other tracks. There are parts where there are three guitar tracks 2 forwards and one backwards.

  • lol... its a hendrix-song .. jimi quite never played a song like two times in the same way .. i made some party easier and i made some parts up.. i did not copy that song from any tab or something ...

and.. maybe my guitar is tuned wrong ^^ its cheap.. :-)

  • u hear that yeap xD

  • Nice dude

  • your verses is kinda made up, it's not how hendrix actually played it

  • hendrix never played it the same twice ^^

  • TRUE, but if you're showing how to play it you should refer to the version on the Album , but i won't lie it's very good, evryone plays it differently.

  • right you are

  • Aint it the damn truth. I'm learning all the chorus' now. I got most of the verse parts down. Takes forever. Hey if you can spare a few bucks for this guy I think he needs a guitar tuner.

  • This is the least accurate version I have ever heard of this song. Give me some time and I'll post a note-for-note instructional.

  • That would be awesome if you actually take the time to do this. I hope you stick to your word and do this man. Please

  • will please i would love to learn it thanks

  • Your the man. thanks for your generosity

  • no problemo :-P

    thanks

  • thanks man. awesome playing and very informative.

  • Very informative, good job! thanks man!

  • this hurts my fuckin eyes O_o but its good

  • cool

  • Wow i agree with sonochalant there really has to be more musicians like you to take a amazing song like this one and really slow it down. thank you soo much.

  • Yayyy. Thanks man, most people don't know how much breaking it down like this can help people. Or are too lazy to do it. We need more people like you! thanks again.
