You're on my side buddy. Honestly, if I could drive, and if I would get me an older car, (My car of choice is a 1989 chevy caprice classic) and it would still have it original stock radio system, I'd keep it as is.
oh yes chad, i always try to keep my trucks and cars all original too. most chevy trucks i see exept mine, have shitty aftermarket radios sticking out where the cassette equalizer is on mine. i like my cassette deck and never will put a aftermarket in it.
Another thing about aftermarket radios, especially the modern ones... they usually have super bright lights on them that blind you when you're going down the highway at night. My friends all have radios like that and they all gotta put something overtop of it for night time highway driving.
A friend of mine bought (brand new) a 1993 Ford Ranger with a AM radio, I think he bought it off the lot, he didn't care because he knew he was going to install a aftermarket CD player anyway (which he did)
The origional Ford radios sucked. I have had nothing but trouble with them. I've had several Ford vehicles that either the cd player was jammed, the display light did not work, or the radio just went caput. So, I recommend Pioneer or JVC. I never had any trouble with either of those.
It's really cool to see someone actually do this. I have a 93 F150 that I bought brand new 16.5 years ago. It came with the AM/FM Clarion-built stereo and speakers. The AM radio you had was actually an option. Someone ordered it with it, AM/FM stereo and 4 speakers were std in 1992. The AM only had 2 door speakers originally. Theres a trick to changing the little display lamp too, they frequently failed after a few years of use.
Those 90's Ford AM/FM cassettes were good decks with good tuners. I had one in a 1991 Cougar. The only problem I had with these stereo was they were so powerful they could blow the speakers.
And the aircheck sounds like it was an interesting radio station. My college radio station (KAYE Tonkawa OK) in 80-82 played only Rock and Top 40 hits and wasn't very eclectic. And we were all analog vinyl too!
Thank you! This station was mostly news/public affairs but they let me do this show early on Sunday mornings with the wide variety of oldies. These were all my own records I brought in. Back when I worked at an AM station I did that format from 6AM-Noon Saturdays but the station has since switched to a "triple A" format.
I heard that some of the Ford stereos are actually made by Clarion when Ford couldn't make enough of them. I think the one of the Grand Marquis might be one of them.
I did radio some years back at KOPN Columbia, MO, a community radio station. it was quite fun. I, too, played records on the air on a totally analog system. Lead to my current position in broadcast television. To me, it's fun. I enjoyed your broadcast presentation, sir.
On the radios, they look almost brand new, and sounds great. Digital may be cool, but the old sounds of analog still can't be beat!
The station was mainly news and public affairs plus jazz and classical music...this was the only show which played this kind of music, it was at 6:00 AM on Sundays.
Nice. I was going ask if that was you on the radio. Neat. That radio does look right in the truck. It seem to me that after market radios draw to much attention.
Nice video if you need help getting your videos exposed check out a site i use that has helped me get on the first page of several different keywords. It's Tubeviews (dot) Net
I changed the radio In my 2001 Toyota Corolla. The only tool I needed to remove the old and install the new was a Philips head screwdriver. I even bought a harness adapter so the factory harness is still there.
The CD player gave out in the new radio after only a few months use but I really enjoy being able to play memory cards. The factory radio is in the trunk next to the spare tire if I decide to put it back.
I sort of miss being able to play cassettes in the car.
I put an aftermarket pyramid stereo in my car for a short time, but I soon changed it back to the old GM auto-reverse deck. Up here in western Canada, 91.3 is a modern alternative rock and classic rock station!
Yes they do...one time when we were traveling in a really remote area for work we were not able to get any radio stations at all but did have satellite radio in the truck and it worked great.
I'm with you, I never did like after market stuff either, I love keeping everything as original as I can. Not much differents in the radios other than a few buttons and size, at least it works perfect. What are you gonna do with the other radio?
I really was amazed how good the system sounds, even for just two fairly small speakers! I recorded that cassette off the air on a Sony boom box radio/cassette.
I did it for 10 years and the first year or so I was a lot more nervous, then it became a lot more natural and just felt kind of like you're talking on the telephone.
Its good to see that you found a period radio! That truck needs a good wash inside! Still can't get over it that you got this truck for such a good deal! I didn't know you worked for NPR!!! Our local station (as you probably remember) is 90.5. You don't hear music like that in this part of the country! Mostly jazz (which I don't mind; I am not a fan of country, less bluegrass) Sometimes they will have some old music from the 40s but VERY rarely. Its a shame really.
Yes it looks kind of nasty here on the dashboard but I have cleaned it up a lot! I remember the public radio stations there were WCPN 90.5 Cleveland and WKSU 89.7 Kent. I like jazz music too. There is a station which I used to listen to there, WKHR 91.5 in Bainbridge which I could get at my parents house, it is old jazz and big band like from the 30's and 40's. I still listen to it on the internet.
Yep, that radio was used in late 80s to early 90s Ford trucks. My dads old neigours have a 1989 For Ranger with a radio almost exactly like that one sitting on the dash.
The type of music reminded me a little of KRLI in Marshall Mo., they have an 8.000 song library, and a lot of it is on vinyl, they have thousands of lps stored in a salt mine. They still announce all songs and artist like stations use to. KRLI is on the internet.
i don't like aftermarket hardware either,i like cars to look like they did when they left the assembly line. glad you found a radio that fits your truck right.
Very nice sound. Does it happen to have AM Stereo? I would guess not, because usually Ford only equipped AM Stereo on the ones with a full-logic tape player, instead of just manual pushbuttons like yours.
Another reason to use factory radios is that they have a built-in EQ curve to match the factory speakers. Aftermarket radios will usually sound worse unless you also install aftermarket speakers.
No I don't think it does have AM stereo. When organist1982 and I had the '95 Ford Windstar its radio did have AM stereo. It didn't have any knobs, had all pushbuttons for all the functions and I think it did have a motorized loading/logic type tape transport. I actually have one of those types of radios but the speaker connector is different than the one used on this truck.
Thanks a lot! At first I had a hard time getting the radio out of the Marquis with the extraction tools but finally got them to just the right point and it came out easily.
i thought you were goon show how to take out a radio duh

You should replace the lightbulb in that radio and get the screen going. It is very easy to do and they will have the bulb at you're autoparts store
