  • greaat video mate

  • Great video, great scenery, just started watching the tube and as a keen steam railway fan can recommend your videos EXCELLENT

  • Thank you very much you're very kind. Sadly the quality is very variable as I seem to keep making silly slips. Chris

  • love the last clip :)

  • As usual. just brilliant! Beautiful.

  • Thank you - good loco in great scenery - can't go wrong. Chris

  • what's the point of this speed restriction of 35 mph when the engine can 60mph!

  • It's a very arbitrary decision and if imposed would make it very difficult to find any paths on the mainline. Hopefully common sense will prevail and she will be restored to a 60mph limit without the need for the special dispensation. Chris

  • well the engine could still do jacobite duty but network rail say that this restiction is to do with the rails, even though soon penolinos with smaller wheels than an 8f could be doing 135mph.

  • Fantastic stuff as usual Chris, (here we go again).

I've filmed BUZZARDS on the cliffs to the left of your first location and often thought it would make a good shooting spot,(Trains). Now you've convinced me.

Might even climb the cliffs to film.

    Hugh.

  • Thanks once again - would be impressive from high up. I didn't spot any Buzzards there but did pop over to Bassenthwaite to look for the Ospreys between the two shots. Saw the male in a tree near the nest through the binoculars (too small to video) then went to the visitor centre to see the live cam of the hen feeding three chicks. Chris

  • This is awesome! What camera do you use?

  • That's very generous of you. I'm using a Panasonic NV-GS300 which I chose for the Leica lens and the 3 charge coupled devices which collect the image instead of the normal 1 ccd. It only has 10 optical zoom and there is no dedicated microphone from Panasonic (but I have fitted a mike). I suspect the specification has long since been overtaken by later cameras but my budget is limited. Chris

  • Anytime ;-) I've recently purchased a Panasonic NV-GS 230, the predessesor to your model. I haven't really had a good change to test it yet, but i will do so this weekend. An external Microphone is on its way

  • The very best of luck to you and I'll look forward to seeing the results. A tripod is a useful accessory to have but maybe you've already got one. Chris

  • Cheers Chris, although i can't promise instant results, this is still all quite new to me, and i still have a lot to learn. Hopefully i'll be able to take another step forward by this weekend :-). David

  • such a shame that the line from plumpton to haverthwaite closed years ago, think of the tourism this would bring in now

  • Great stuff Chris - I was on this run yesterday, so it's great to see a lineside (or should that be seaside...) view of it. I like the choice of spots - really great vistas, and the black clag and white steam at Arnside is really lovely - I couldn't see that because I was on the coastal side of the train. Now, I must ask, who is the handsome devil at the last door of the second carriage approaching Grange?? ;-)

  • Aargh - I didn't realise you were there - the video's ruined :o) Looks like another good trip with 48151, bet you enjoyed it. I could have done with some of Ralph's x300 zoom though. Good vistas but it was so windy there. A chap I spoke to (there's always some kindly soul) said it's really great on bright, STILL days - but I still saw steam!! Chris

  • Nice shots again Chris, x300 zoom, what have you been on? it's x120 and that's on the old camera, new one is only x48, how am I going to manage?
