  • What happen to the original music? :(

  • me gustaa!!! *-*

  • What is her shoes called?

    Where can I get them??:)

Please tell if you guys know it?

    i really want them:)

  • the last part of the first video... how could she bend her body like that?

  • be a dream to see this performed live

  • @hackmaa me too :)

  • She got lady gaga Shoe!

  • i love how the geishas did thier hair!!!

  • me encantaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa i likeeee

  • what the song?

  • dommage il y a du retard par rapport a l'image mais superbe

  • gorgeous... I got to mention that in the first part(movie's fault) a geisha won't ever l;et her hair like this (only if it is a combination between theatre and dance). At the second part, it was(from what I remember) her 'launch' as a maiko. The makeup should have been white with the 3 stripes at the back as the real Mineko Iwasaki have written in her book.. But I still love geishas and this is a beutiful thing... for some real geisha dances search festivals in Kyoto especially Gion!

  • This is maybe my favourite scene ! so beautiful!

I don't care if she has contacs or is her ankles showing...

  • This scene is maybe my favourite!

    so beautiful!

  • her name is Anita Goldberg Vars

  • My favourite Movie ....thank you !

  • Im finishing the book before I see the movie, But I think I might break the rules....

  • the movie is one of my favourite, far, and the snow dance is amazing .love it .thank you!!!!!

  • A geisha doesn't show her ankles, never !

  • @Ankha38 Why? Is that something 'sexual' or 'pervert' for geishas?

  • @Siristaromen It's considered immodest. Geisha were artists & performers, not courtesans. It was daring to show a client their wrist while pouring tea or sake.

  • AMAZING!!!! THIS IS FROM MY FANOURITE MOVIE !!!!! 5*****

  • the first one is more like the last dance on Sagi musume. a great kabuki title.

  • LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!

    she is sooooo pretty!

  • omg! it's the grudge!!!

  • i just saw this movie lol

  • Best dance ever!!!!!!!

  • Very preety(:

  • my favorite part of the movie!!!!

  • her umbrella looks like jellyfish

  • Sayuri is so beautiful : )

  • is a geisha a performer/hoe? this movie made them seem like prostitutes are these geisha Chinese or japanese

  • @jon76398 the geisha were performers; the geisha means artist i think? can't remember for sure. but they were very....high class prostitutes basically that knew dancing, music, art, tea ceremonies etc etc etc. everything they did - even serving tea and walking was considered an art that should have been mastered. and geisha are Japanese :]

  • @librawitch7 A geisha is not a prostitute. She is not a cortesean nor a a wife. A young woman who is skilled in social grace, elegance, and the arts. She does not sell herself for money, but is paid by clients to enterain them with their company. Nothing more. It is the woman who decides to sleep with him and if she is a true, respectable geisha then she will not.

  • @gothicXemoXvampire oh! sorry! my mistake - i'll shut up now hahaha ^^"

  • @librawitch7 Worry not. It's a very common mistake. After the war, pretty much everything was lost of the old life. Like Sayuri says in the movie, the image of the old life was now only on post cards. Common street walkers would paint their faces and wear silk kimono to try and play like they were refined geisha (calling themselves geesha-girls) but they really only smeared the honorable name.

  • She looks like a vampire in the beginning

  • I love the clips but I wish the music would match them. You have the Tea House dance with the Winter dance scene. Al though a touch of Chyios Theme is nice.

  • Lindo filmeeeee =]

  • Isn't the first some sort of butoh?

  • the music don't make sense with it

  • you put that together so well, love it!! =)

  • i luvv her shoes

  • She looks like a ghost

  • r u sure this is the dance of geisha??

  • 1:13-1:20 my #BEST part! <3

  • Beautiful!

  • the 1st one not really gheisha dance maybe the 2nd...

  • Is there anywhere i can get this song for free?

  • which kind of dance is this? i know it have a name but i don't know

  • beautiful and amazing!!!! shes soooo pretty and cute, and so is this movie its awesome!!!!!!!!!! i loove her!

  • i want to watch the movie..i havent seen it yet..but i already finished reading the book..its awesomely nice..i love the author../

  • Looks so innocent

  • what¨s the name of this music???

  • @fannycif yeah i want the name too

  • This was beautiful makes me want to try it! I loved this movie!

  • Stunning.. what a great modern twist on the Geisha movement

  • This is the Heron Maiden (Sagi Musume) dance, from kabuki isn't it?

  • nice, but not geisha-like at all. it's more kabuki than traditionell geisha dance.

  • Mm, I thought that when I watched it. It seems too... Um. Dramatic?

  • @BooshifiedDubbing its theater :)

  • @AkeginuShinonome Actually most geisha dances are meant to tell stories. and Yes the one which looks like she is in an show or what not is more Kabuki the one near the end is a traditional geisha dance.

  • @Ladyblindlove I actually know about this. I even know, that she performs the "Yuki Onna", the Snow Woman, but no Geisha would ever stretch and run like this. the make up is kabuki-like but the dance is more hollywood than anything else. the film is good, yes. but for people who know, how a real geisha would dress and act it's simply stupid. that's the reason spielberg quit production and left. I really like to see a film, wich fits arthur golden's "memories of a geisha" better. Greez

  • @AkeginuShinonome

yeah. thats what i thought 2. i almost make a life of studying japanese culture, (plus, helps i've read this book.) you only really use a fan.

  • @AkeginuShinonome what are these shoes? high heels in japanase style?

  • @Sajtosphil this shoes are called Okobo. traditional shoes for maiko (learn geisha) only, not for geisha. inside is a little bell, ringing by every step. hope that will answer your question :)

  • @AkeginuShinonome thanks a lot! :)

  • @AkeginuShinonome I agree with you, the second dance is more like the real Geisha dance but she does it too fast.

  • Beautiful, aboustly beautiful!! :D x x

  • i love this movie, thanks for uploading this clip! i lost the dvd somewhere v.v, anyways, beautiful!

  • wonderfull i love japan

  • OMG! *___*

  • beautiful story and amazing music :)

  • 彼女は非常に良いです!

  • すごい!!!

  • beautifuuuul <3

  • I fell in love with her eyes the first time i watched the movie.

  • yesss, beautiful contacts

  • 凄いです、、、、、綺麗!

  • Beautiful,really beautiful !

  • shoes like that were only wore by oiran, never geisha... and that dance is not a traditional dance at all, not to mention the mizuage thing. i agree wholeheartedly with robbiebunny13. arthur golden shouldn't have angled what mineko iwasaki told him. she was taking a huge risk by telling him, and then he turns it all around just to sell more books! i have no respect for him whatsoever.

  • I've rented this film 6 times just to see this dance again.

    THX FOR POSTING IT!

  • nejlepší ( japonský ? ) film !!!! :* strašně pěknej !!!

  • Zgadzam się ^_^

    Polski film

  • damn those shoes are big. how can she even lift her feet!?

  • she doesnt!as you she moves like a serpent...

  • I did a lot of research they did use to sell thieir virginity off as a right of passage but they stopped doing it.

  • Actually that was Tayuu. They performed entertainment, similar to Geiko, but primarily sold their bodies. Tayuu mizuage marks the start of a girl's life 'on the market' by de-flowering her at a price.

Maiko's mizuage has only ever been a change of hairstyle and a shortening of sleeves to reflect the girl growing into a woman.

  • can someone please translate to me the first dance. what was happening/what was the dance about?

  • If she were a real Geisha, and danced like that, she would be looked at as an insane woman, and made fun of. It is Based off of a true story, but geisha/ maiko never actually auctioned off their virginity, and were never prostitutes, and the author turned the story around, and nothing is accurate about the movie, the hair and makeup are all wrong.

  • This is actually a scene from a Kabuki called Kabuki Sagi Musume. It is true that a man would be playing her part. The real one isn't nearly as drastic, but this is hollywood. :P

  • Shes chinese actress, I love this movie

  • she is so pretty in this i love japan and its culture

  • its a true story D:

  • I still cant get over how she kept her balance in those ginormous shoes!! She is SO pretty!

  • this actress executed the dance with breathtaking grace, absolutely beautiful

  • Luv this movie she is beautiful

  • I really really love this movie. Its so awesome!

  • nádhera :)

  • 鷺娘じゃねーよ!

    パクリだよ!

    イライラするこの映像!

  • "KABUKI sagi musume"

  • i love his movie

  • Hey guys can anyone tell me ASAP if I can download this song from the NET if the song has a name or author/ composer... I would really appreciate it.

  • you can find it on i-tunes. search for "memoirs of a geisha" and it has all the soundtracks

  • 鷺娘

    なめんじゃねェよ

  • the book and the movie are absolutely genuis!!

i didn't know that this was actually based on a real woman...

  • The woman who helped choreograph and dress them and all things geisha..used to be a geisha in japan, so she knows, i know because its my fa movie and i watched ALL of the special features X]]

  • Beautiful movie. :)

  • Thanks for putting this up! It's an amazing movie in my opinion and everyone should read the book!

  • its not so much a dance as a peice of acting mixed with dancing!

  • So overly stylized this movie is.

  • Goose bumps all over..

  • I liked the ending! Gosh, this is my favoritest movies of all time! I really want to read the book. Anyways, loved this video! Beauitful, beauitful dances.

  • o_O isn't that dance a Kabuki...I wonder how they got this wrong

  • whats a "Kabuki"?

  • Kabuki is an all-male world/theater that has males dressing up as females to play parts and stuff; it goes back generations, just like geisha! ;D

  • once of my fav moments in that movie . i love it. itś so beautiful and amazing

  • I think the japanese culture and chinese culture are very similar, in some things i can find the differences, but in others i get confused..! for example the theater, it looks like both cultures..!

  • those shoes are hard to walk in..

I really do love japanese culture....not only it's confusing and hard to understand it...but it's really interesting!

  • WOW!! AMAZING

  • it does look a little too chinese theatre doesnt it? I think she exaggerates the movements too much compared to other geisha dances. Its too "flowy" while traditional geisha dances are very erect and almost robotic.

  • Well that's a movie and they all speak English...What do you expect = =

  • Hah. That's true. I did enjoy this movie very much, though. ^-^

  • still ,it's more like chinese dance, maybe because ziyi zhang is a well-trained chinese dancer. and the hairstyle and music in this movie are not really japanese either. well, anyway it's a hollywood movie, what do you expect?

  • Beautiful..

    <3

  • AMAZING!!!!

  • Beautiful dance

  • i like those dances they do...super nice to watch!....KAIYOKEN!!!!

  • Ziyi was awesome <333

  • ziyi did a wonderful job

  • she is so beautiful i love this film

  • Is very similiar to the portuguese music called fado only a person with expression to give to all others feelings could sing it... this is the same thing

  • amazing.

  • What's the music playing called? :)

    I love her dances.

  • i think sayuri's theme or the chairmans waltz. well if not idk

  • i believe its "becoming a geisha"

  • John Williams - Becoming A Geisha

  • that's not how a geisha dances but i love the dances in the movie! :D

  • Me encanta, Me encanta excelent

  • ur mother was a geisha? uh huh okay. and u say "that is so easy" then proceed to said "i tried it once but u can't with that junk on you" um yeah. duh.

  • Sure baby, your mom was a geisha and you had a flying pony.

  • i love her shoes ^^

  • o.O

  • Geisha don't dance like that :x it's Kabuki...

  • utsukushii!!nihon no bunkeewa watashitachiga sukidearune! sayonara....hoshiko, italiamade

  • well, it's a bit different in real but i still love this moment.

  • Love the video! I love Memoirs of a Geisha. The dancing is amazing.

  • this is when she transforms into a Maiko isn't it? i love this music!!

  • no, she was already a maiko. and after her mizuage she become a geisha. :-)

  • ah okay

  • Well it's certainly "Hollywood". Japanese it isn't!

  • Yup.

  • Does anybody know the piece of music to this?

    it would be really helpful,

as i am doing a gcse dance on it.:)

  • So what if the dance isn't historically correct (says Yahoo news and others), it's still equally cool! x3

  • (the first dance with Sayuri) ^^ Still love it!!! xD

  • I love this movie for some reason. It's mostly because I like different types of dances and I'm Asian, but whatever.

  • I love this dance... I've also cosplayed this part of the movie!! *.*

    5 stars!!!

  • Beautiful. Just exquisite.

  • almost every actor in this movie is chinese!

  • i niticed

    lol

  • actually, all but Gong Li are Japanese! Lady Li is Chinese.

  • Zhang ziyi is Chinese

  • Puntonghua, the actress's name who plays Sayuri is ZIYI ZHANG, NOT Zhang Ziyi. :)

  • I know I know but in Chinese culture surname comes first :-)

  • Oh really?????? Oh, wow now I feel like a dork, lol!! :) Sorry!! :D I'm just used to seeing her name like that on my copy of the Memoirs of a Geisha DVD and in interviews and stuff!

  • Ha ha ha no reason to feel like a dork :-P... I found out myself just a couple of months ago

  • duh its an asian movie.

  • its ZHANG ZI YI!!!!!

  • I loved the book!

  • What a great and touching movie.

The Japanese culture is indeed full of beautiful but yet extrem mysterious proceeding. I doubt a western person could ever figure out all the meanings behind it and the traditions.
