You can try baking a video card in the oven for 8 - 10 minutes at 400 degrees Fahrenheit to fix it. Place it upside down over 3 medium rolled bits of aluminum and a cookie sheet or pan and it will reflow the soldering the same as a reflow oven.

That is enough to fix it. I thought my card was failing for a bit because I started getting strange artifacts, now I figured maybe it was an unstable OC because I pencil modded and don't have any more problems.

Yes, cards that are bought 'defective' or that get artifacts from overheating or die tend to only have microfissures in the ball grid array soldering, in order to reflow the soldering so the chips make proper contact onto the PCB, all that needs to be done is to use a blow dryer, heat gun or bake it.

The card will not melt, the PCB isn't made out of plastic, and cards these days have standard limits for the amount of toxic chemicals such as lead. The card will not melt because printed circuit board has layers of conductive material, printing as well as epoxy and woven glass, these materials should not begin to melt until 600, 700 degrees, the melting point of silicon is much higher however, at 2577 F.

Without electricity (powered off state), safe, manufacturers reflow.

I have better question... I have a 9600GSO and recently with games that have ALWAYS worked with this card my games have been going through periodic slow downs... it actually seems like aver once in a while the GPU fan dies for like 30 second and then kicks back. but that'[s not what REALLY happening it's the best way I can explain it though!

Like I will play steady 40+fps and then all of a sudden it will drop to like 7 FPS for about 30 seconds and then return to normal.

haha, the song fits well. I had an ati radeon 9800 pro that would artifact on me. I took it out and found a huge dust ball in the fan. Unfortunately I had already bought a new card at that point :P. That 9800 worked fine after the dustball.

i have a 7300 Le and a dual core 2.13 Gh. and this does not happen to me. i play battlefield 2 and play it often. maybe uninstalling the game then reinstalling will help, or maybe overclocking dammage, (not saying you did). but anyway try this card out on doom 3 adn quake 4, it eats those games for breakfast, smooth fps on the ulta high settings.
