It would be nice to see some updates on history lessons. A friend of mine in Jones county Georgia had a barn with a cotton gin in it that was older than Eli Whitney. He gave it to a museum. I wonder why that didn't make news.
@likeaboss72: so wait in ur family tree Eli Whitney is in ur family tree, oh i didnt know that cause my grandfather walter E. Whitney that was his great grandfather n my name is Victoria Lynn Whitney n he is in my family tree. look up the name Walter E Whitney n u will c
@likeaboss72 u mean my grandfather Walter E. Whitney. that was my grandfather. and his great grand father was none other then eli whitney. so that means we are related then
One of my college professors once said that if he could go back in time and kill one person it would be Eli Whitney; The man who he said "brought us better living through guns and slavery".
@DaytonaDavid I agree whole heartedly and thank god for all those who volunteered to come to our great country and pick the cotton ahhhh yes the fabric of our lives
@RuckusNoRelation87 Sir i salute your thorough endeavors of the truth and i again salute your tenacity by having a slice of watermelon, mmm freedom taste good:)
It is quite impressive of how a small simple machine impacted an entire nation. It does not matter if Whitney did invent the cotton gin or not, what does matter is the machine. It did affected slavery. In the times before the cotton gin, slavery was getting off-stylish, due to it being expensive (the owners had to cloth, feed them and buy their slaves
). India was a major cotton producer thanks to its size and easiness, but the small american giber was hard to tend. The cotton gin stoped this.
All of this is technically right, according to the traditional view of Whitney and the cotton gin, but recently historians have admitted that Whitney did not invent the cotton gin, and they debate what extent it helped maintain slavery. BTW, one third of the US population were slaves before the cotton gin; it didn't change until slavery was abolished. The best new book on this subject is Angela Lakwete's "Inventing the Cotton Gin"
Music was too loud but the facts were great. Was this for a research project?
