  • That's just awesome.

  • The background before 1:24 is a big distraction for fast paced Sonic action, keep it simple and use other colors then foreground, so it will not affect the visibility of foreground objects.

  • @vetalfox

It's no worse than Casino Night Zone.

  • lmfao. FuelledByHamish and sonic3243, you guys are fucking nerds.

  • This is one of the best Sonic hacks I ever seen. I'm really looking forward to its release.

  • It would be awesome if Sega offered to publish it on systems.

  • Goodness I saw this project in early stages a few years back, now it's evolved into this? Friggin unreal guys. Keep it going.

  • @affansonicfan bitch please.

  • @SonicTweaker This awesome project is still alive right?

  • @KyanbuXM Yep, it's still alive, and they've even redone City Outskirts....it looks more like a carnival now.

  • Starlight Speedway

  • @SonicTweaker

btw where can i download this?

  • On the results screen, Sonic looks like he got girl eyelashes. Just saying.

  • @affansonicfan

make your own version then!.... slacker!

  • Streets of Rage called, they want their song back.

  • the version i downloaded, he doesn't have that move where you charge forward. What version is this one?

  • @DaMostEnigmatic The Homing Attack and Jump-Dash for Sonic were introduced publicly in v2.0, and this is v4.0b. If you can't activate it by "double-jumping", find the "Preferences" menu on the Title Screen, and make sure "Control Scheme" is set to "Megamix", not "Classic"

  • @DaMostEnigmatic Excuse me- the last public release was v4.0b. This video in particular is of as-of-yet unreleased content. Sorry about that

  • This level looks like it would confuse the hell out of me

  • yum:D it looks awesome!!!

  • I came for the awesome music, stayed for the awesome zone, level design and art work. I'm curious as to how many other stages have redone art/design/music, and whether the Act 4 additions for New Game Plus will stay and be completed...

Also, screw the brats with entitlement issues, its a labor of love and will be done when it's done, and I'll be sure to play the hell out of it when it is. Can't wait to see and hear more! :-)

  • neo starry night zone is one of my phone's ringtones that i recorded on to it

  • So when DO we get this? You showed it in 2010 and it is now 2012. I greatly enjoy your game hack here, and I would really like it if you guys finished it.

  • Any possibility of this being released soon? :3

  • Why Sega refuses to make something like this and call it Sonic 4 is beyond me.

  • Sonic 3 skin would be epic with this!!

  • Tweaker, I just want to know something. WHY IS THE NEW VERSION SO GLITCHED?!

  • Taking advantage of the Sega CD hardware, I see.

  • this shit is STILL sexy bro. i would love to hear an act 2 version of this.

  • If each song sounds as good as this, the Super Sonic themes are staying off forever.

  • You guys should try to push the Mega Drive/CD hardware to the absolute bleeding limit. The Sonic CD rerelease on consoles is running in what appears to be 480x224 (16:9 widescreen), so with lots of coding, I wonder if it would be possible on the real hardware?

Sonic Megamix is looking better and better... I just hope we aren't stuck with 4.0 beta 1 forever! Are we expecting Beta 2 or final any time soon?

    ^^Sonic Android^^

  • @sonic3243 “You guys should try to push the Mega Drive/CD hardware to the absolute bleeding limit. The Sonic CD rerelease on consoles is running in what appears to be 480x224 (16:9 widescreen), so with lots of coding, I wonder if it would be possible on the real hardware?”

    Embarrassing fail

  • @FuelledByHamish "Embarrassing fail"? What did I say wrong?

Look at Sonic 2, in 2-player mode, it interlaced a resolution of 320x448, which is twice as many lines up and down as 320x224 in single player. Through interlacing, it should be possible to get 480x224 on the Megadrive/Genesis or possibly a 32x AND CD combo. Some games require BOTH the 32x and the CD, for both enhanced graphics AND CD audio.

  • @sonic3243 You've just disproved your own pie-in-the-sky. You described how interlacing enables one to double the vertical resolution, then somehow transmuted that into the assertion that it would also enable one to multiply the horizontal resolution by 1.5.

The MD display, whether interlaced or not, PAL/NTSC, CD, 32X, whatever - always has 320 pixels across.

Ergo, your remake can't be done. I'm restraining myself here! Have some basic knowledge of things like this before you pretend you do.

  • @sonic3243 And really, technical considerations aside (where you authoritatively cast them) don't you think an increased x resolution would have been done by now if it were possible? I'm sure hackers such as demo groups are still pushing the boundaries, but I'd bet Sega or someone would've stumbled upon the extra 160 columns by now if they were just hiding all along.

"Through counterintelligence it should be possible to pinpoint potential troublemakers and neutralise them. And neutralise them!"

  • @FuelledByHamish you're right about the x- and y-lines, where Sonic 2 doubles the amount of lines on the y-, not the x-.

Perhaps adding 160 lines to the x- wouldn't work, but what about simulating that resolution? It's like 1280x960 (4:3) on a PC monitor that can only do 1024x768 (4:3)--things will be blurry, granted.

I do not know every in and out of Sega consoles. I do know quite a bit about porting PC games to Dreamcast, since a Parallel port and Windows CE dev kit allows it.

  • @sonic3243 ....What? Simulating how? Assuming we're to take seriously your example, that implies scaling the graphics. Drawing a whole 2D game in one resolution then scaling it down? That'd look horrendous at modern resolutions, never mind the hilariously-small-by-comparison one of the MD. Never mind the fact that it completely defeats the point of pixel art.

And there's no "perhaps" about it. None of this can be done. Again, if it /could/ be, it probably /would/ have been be now.

    This is bad.

  • let it go bruh

  • Why is the speedometer using hex digits? And what units does the speedometer using to be so high?

  • Comment removed

  • One thing I never really liked is why fangames use the Sonic 1/CD color scheme. Why not use the Sonic 2 or 3 one?

  • The launch is taking too long!

  • Where can I download the game?

  • is there any news as to when this version will be ready?

  • I'd love to play this level.

  • Comment removed

  • @Intenseawesome I think you need Sega genesis emulator to play this game. I have this game on my android phone with emulator. This game is still just a hack of Sonic 1 but THIS IS BEST CLASSIC SONIC GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED! Thank you Sonic Megamix creators!

  • This game looks great and I really want to try it, but the demos won't work on my computer. I downloaded one from Sonic Retro and tried to start it up, but my PC seems to think that the game is file that needs to be opened with another program. Anyone know how to solve this?

Also, for all those lucky people who've been able to give this thing a go, how does it feel to play? I mean, does it feel more as if you were playing Sonic Rush with old-school graphics or Sonic 1 with fancy new gimmicks?

  • @IntenseAwesome If the file is a 7z file, then you need to extract it using WinRAR, WinZip or something similar. If it's zip, you haven't got the most recent release and should get the 4.0b version from Sonic Retro .org. If you already did this, the next step is to download Kega Fusion, which is a Mega Drive/Genesis, Mega CD, Master System and Game Gear emulator, because the game is actually a Mega CD rom.

  • @JASpiring Oh! Thanks. So... Kega Fusion. OK. So this is actually, like, a Mega Drive game that they made?

  • @IntenseAwesome It's a fan made hack of Sonic 1, which was done as a Mega CD game instead of Mega Drive because they increased the size too much for what would've fitted on a cartridge (after all, they doubled the number of levels and added four new playable characters, as well as upgrading Sonic's moveset and adding the Sonic 3 shields). Like I said, Kega Fusion can emulate both Mega Drive and Mega CD. Just Google it.

  • Comment removed

  • @JASpiring Yes! It's working perfectly! Thanks!

  • Looks like Stardust speedway on SERIOUS steroids!!

  • I guess this is THE single best mod of classic Sonic I've ever seen!

  • when is this version coming out? :I

  • Will the soundtrack be released in FLAC-format? This is great!

  • Wish this was SONIC 4!

  • It's like someone put all the classic 2D Sonic games in a blender. And it's awesome.

  • I see isolated island in the bg!

  • @PhantomKirbz Yes you mean, You mean Newtrogic High Zone, Eggman's base in Chaotix for the 32X. :)

  • @gween thanks bro

Yeah, it was in the BG of Isolated Island Zone or something like that.

Chaotix refrence is win. Markey sure knows how to mix BGs.

  • sonic megamix forever xD

  • how to get that level ? i have sonic megamix 4.0 i've been complete all the stages, so i couldn't see that stage in most all of the levels in the game, so could someone to tell me ?

  • @waypastcoolhedgehog This is the latest version, and it's not even out yet.

  • when the latest version comes out ? i love that stage

  • @waypastcoolhedgehog No-one knows when this version will come out. Just sit tight and wait until it does.

  • Comment removed

  • i wish that comes out as fast as possible

  • Thanks to people and Yahoo, youtube and Sonic Retro im finnaly playing this masterpiece called Sonic Megamix, and im loving every freaking bit of it,definitly gonna play this for awhile(then I'll play Sonic Generations if I get my hands on it)

  • good work Tweaker

  • no tas run i wanna see people run through when it comes out

  • This... is... beast... I don't know how anything will ever compare. This is fucking ingenius. I can't wait to play. If you're advancing Megamix like this, I'll be surprised if a CD emulator can hold up to this when complete. You may have to actually port it to Engine02 or the Worlds engines.

  • Markey's art is so damn unique.

Three seconds it's all you need to be able to tell he's done it...

Is he going to do art for the rest of the levels? I am entirely sure MegaMix team could use his talents more than once. Or, even better, why don't you guys make him a part of the team if you haven't already?

  • @SpiralPegasus

    He is.

    ._.

  • This is like a parallel reality 90's sonic game... The best kind

  • How am i supposed to play this? I want it now!

  • it just makes me realize how scary some of the springs and dash panels and homing attacks and collecting rings sound FX that you did actually match up with the music like percusion in a way thats what makes this run so much better its like the level was made to match up w/ the tune when you run through love it!

  • I wonder if there is sprite switch option in the new version. I like sonic 3 sprites more

  • 0:03

    ★★ FAULT ★★

  • @DigiTan000 - Haha, yep! From Sonic 3... :-)

  • @Cooter3422 - I used to have that buzzer as a Windows sound. Scared the living daylights outta people. : )

  • When does it come out? I go to sonic retro all the time and see only the 2008 release...

  • @coyoteguy05 It's out when it's out. But hey, look on the bright side: The more you wait, the more will be in there. :)

  • Awesome! Now I can show my friends my definition of epicness in a single video! :D

  • This is the game that Sonic 4 should have been! The last 2D Sonic game I played before that, was "Sonic Megamix 4.0" and that was truly incredible! I love how this game captures all the best bits from Sonic 1, 2, 3, S&K, Sonic CD and Knuckles Chaotix! I also very much like how in this new zone, they have the S&K bonus stage orbs included in the actual level itself to jump into, roll around, and then flick off in whatever direction you want! The physics are just a dream that SEGA have now killed!

  • omg this new look is epic!

  • Who the hell are the Dislikers i would like to punch their brains out of their heads D:<!

  • I've doubt I've seen a hack with more quality than this one.

  • It's such a sight for sore eyes to see more original artwork going into this game, especially for Starry Night Zone. I also noted the "Gravity Ball" effect from the Sonic & Knuckles Bonus stages. :) Do you know when this stage will be released to the general public?

  • i love this music. standards are just as good as sonic cd, could definately pass n make it in the game.

  • Not sure if you'll take the time to answer this, but I have to know. The previous versions of Megamix have the Super form in it, so is there any chance of the Hyper form in the final product?

  • The amusement park in the background is a nice touch

  • The background looks like Stardust Speedway meets HydroCity

  • @roguetrip99 And the full level in particular looks like Star Light Zone, HydroCity Zone, Collision Chaos Zone & Stardust Speedway Zone put together (in perfect harmony)

  • @roguetrip99 you mean the tiles ?

  • Note to Sonic Team: PUT A LEVEL LIKE THIS IN SONIC 4 EPISODE 2!!!

  • I wish I can walk around there at night and have a party at the carnival in the background!! :D

  • Goddamit this is so beautiful every time i watch it wish somebody at Retro was the Producer and Director of Sonic Team instead of Takashi Iizuka D:<!

  • Starry Night Zone for SONIC GENERATIONS!!!!

  • Beautiful! XD

  • When this version will be released?

  • did i just get laid?

  • They should release it in SAGE 2011

  • Starlight Zone + Stardust Speedway Zone + Electro-Balls from Sonic 3&K's Special Stage + Awesome Background + Amazing Music = NEW Starry Night Zone :D

  • is there any way... I could get this on a genesis cartidge?

  • Sonic Megamix HD? now that would be awesome(r)! you guy should totally do that after Sonic 2 HD! :D

  • This is the combination of the best of Sonic's first five games. Complete with the electro-balls from Sonic 3's bonus stage! Amazing job putting all of this together.

  • I want to play this game.... seriously!

  • Is this out yet ??!! The music is amazing, did you guys make it?

  • way awesome sonic cd 2 :D

  • i want this megamix version. fell in love with the song XD

  • Dance Dance Revolution music fersureee--or at least it could be. I love this hack!! :D

  • Dude, this looks awesome! Take all the time you need, until you get what you define as perfection!

  • @Juanmatron3 Well, you completely missed the point.

  • @Juanmatron3 Wouldn't the art, graphics, and gameplay need to be actual improvements over Sonic 3?

  • It's been a year and STILL I'm on the edge of my seat.

I think they should send an email to Sonic Team with the final

ROM of Sonic Megamix and a Sega CD Emulator. Who knows if they could

get inspired and have something to compete against.

That's why I think Sonic Team hasn't been doing as well. They've got NOTHING

to inspire them and make them want to work with Sonic towards a goal. Sure they have Mario, but it isn't that fun anymore. Just imagine if they play this, Sonic may just get better.

  • @GalliumGrant I think that would be illegal cause Sega might get Butthurt but that would be cool xD

  • @GalliumGrant I want to try this new version. It would be great.

  • Out.....Of.....Sight!

  • This is one of the most beautiful stages I've seen in my life! You're f****** awesome man!

  • This looks like a superb sonic game... gotta try this out.

and I LOVE the music in the starry night zone!!!!!

  • Quick question... what's the name of the city outskirts act 4 music? Iv'e been looking for it everywhere but I can't find it. I hope they can remix that one too.

  • SONIC MEGAMIX IS SONIC 4!!!

  • wow this looks like an official game from the past! and modern Sega failed to do this with Sonic 4..pathetic

  • Truly a Sonic game by fans, for fans.

  • Comment removed

  • Damn, This music is better than anything Sega has produced in over a decade.

I'm suddenly hyped for this game.

  • lf sonic megamix is not dead, are you planning to make the new one?

  • You gotta give credit to MarkeyJester! He's awesome at what he does for Sonic. If only I could find a team to help me out with my games. But this is still excellent.

  • Sonic the Hedgehog 4, as we thought we would never imagine.

  • @Juanmatron3 Heey, psst... Little secret... This IS Sonic 4.

Sonic 4 as we thought we would never imagine.

  • This game seriously needs to come out already to make up for Sonic 4...

  • I want this game.

  • @Juanmatron3 Theres always Episode 2

  • @pliam1 I wouldn't hold my breath on that....

  • @Vortex4229 Who knows Sega could pull something outta there sleeves that could blow us away, I also heard Episode 2 in currently under early development.

  • @pliam1 I still dont think Sonic 4 will make it, but I do like the "Sonic generations" project. It looks nice, and i hope it plays well.

  • Well I like this

  • First MajorDump's Doomsday Zone, then Sonic and Knuckles 3D-Mushroom Hill, then Sonic Fan Remix, then this, then Sonic 2 HD...I think the fans do a bit too much remaking (not that they are all terrible).

  • Reminds me Stardust Speedway.

  • as for the 3d ones... they suck, the music, and everything about the the 3d sonic games suck the old school sonic is the best( keep the 90's alive)

Ps: brings back so many memories

  • sonic games in the 90's were the best games that's why the new ones are trying to copy the old ones but with better graphics because they ain't making money off of the new ones as they did with the old ones.

  • Wow it's spring yard zone good future

  • GO WORK FOR SEGA

  • thats some of the best sound i herd on the md how the fuck did u get it sounding so good

  • @slycooperbandofdoom It's CD Audio

  • 4 people liked sonic the hedgehog 2006

  • @waylontqu -.-' I like(d) Sonic '06...

  • @Pika2k10 lol :P

  • @waylontqu Sonic 2006 is a correct game, with a good story, great design and awesome OST. It may be not finished (it's really a beta) but it's not bad.

  • @Milesprower2305

    You're right. It's not bad. It's terrible.

  • @SiLeNtDo0m Sonic '06 was rushed. If it wasnt gameplay-wise it could of been pretty good(the other stuff though like the story, artstyle and music would still suck).I mean it had pretty good Level Design just the gameplay SUCKED.

  • @waylontqu Its not a crime to like it, everyone has an oppinion idiot..

  • @waylontqu Got some problems? I like STH'06 and this video too ashole!

  • @KyubiNarutoUzumaki Sorry i also liked but no problem please im sorry but it was an expression

  • why do you not call this stage ''city of lights''

  • THIS HACK IS 2 THINGS

    1 THE BEST SONIC GAME

    2 THE BEST HACK EVER

  • THIS MUST BE A GAME FOR THE 360

  • Those balls that you were spinning on at 1:00 remind me on S3K

  • Some one needs to make a Sonic megamix Trailor

Sonic 4 like but with starry night stuff in it

  • anyone know if there's another release?

  • @figaro589

    its not finished yet...

  • Damn ive seen this a long time ago but damn the music is so good!

  • Nice looking and sounding level, but really moving away from classic gameplay with so many boosters and the auto-speed of homing...

  • Music is great, but this level looks ugly as hell. Try some colors other than blue. K thanks
