I heard it has a USB outlet that can playback .wav files. I was wondering, could I load .wav functions onto it? I heard samples could not be done, but would it be possible to load into the brain additional drum sounds if they are in .wav format?
@turquoiseguy I havent really done much with USB but from what i know of you cant add additional drum kits sounds. You can save .wav songs onto the USB then play them via the kit. I guess roland dont want people messing with the sounds of the drums as they would lose out on money
can you please tell me the snare setting for the V-Tour studio kit (kit #1)? I edited mine and can't remember what the original setting was out of the box. Thanks so much!
Because of the cables comming in the module together... Can i add more pads?
Right now i play on a TD6 V and i have it with 4 pedals 3 cimbals and i still can add 2 more pads. (which i think i will soon) but because of the quality of the sound im looking forward to get a better module later on, but im not sure if the TD 9 module works with all the extra pads that i use.
I am going to pick one of these up tomorrow and should have watched this review first as I tried to haggle but got nowhere. Its ocver £2k with the double bass peddle, seat and AMP. I only went in to buy my sone a new guitar and effects system but could not resist this after messing on it for 10 minutes.
@halsasaurus1 Haha well its always the way, i dont think anyone really walks into a music store with the thing they set out to buy! (At least i dont).

Nice review dude, but just a question, m a newbie in the drum instrument, i have a plan on buying a roland e-drum set over a yamaha e-drum set.just a question, since i'm new there are 2 sets available at our mall, since e-drums are really rare here, the sets are Roland Td-9 and Roland td4-Kx.since there is no coach mode in roland Td-9, and the fact m still learning, is it advisable to get the Td-4kx over the td-9?since the td-9 is not a KX version, which rubber sucks on mimicing rebound feel.
@seanlolsean Hey sean, the TD-4 does have some great learning features but then again so does this kit. On the TD-9 you can play to pre-recorded tracks which are built into the module so you can practice getting all the right beats. Also there is a metronome and a feature called scope where you can zoom in and see if your playing on time with the music. As you are new to drums just think about how pationate you are obviously you dont want to buy an expensive kit and then give up.
BTW, (only) because you mentioned asking for "extra"; which I wouldn't have in my new-drum-set excitement, Musician's Friend threw in not only an extended 3-year warranty, but an extra "8 mesh-pad. Also, I'm hearing from multiple neutral sources that the TD-9S is being *discontinued* in favor of the KX; Roland isn't "manufacturing" anymore TD-9S's, so it's just what's left with retailers. If you want the cheaper version of this kit (with rubber toms), act now. Thanks again, cheers.
Are electric sets as difficult to set up as they look, or is it just what it looks like?
Please respond... I'm pawning in my Tama Imperialstar of an electric set because i'll be moving into a condo and i don't want to make a disturbance and its smaller, so i really need to know. Kind reguards
@ToxicRock81 Yeah its totaly easy you will have it all set up within 5 mins if you know what your doing. Basically once you have set it up from the box it comes in you will leave all the leads tie wrapped to the rack so all you have to do is plug in the drums to the module.
Ok I have two questions. If I were to buy lets say a CY-14C cymbal to play with to replace the standard crash they give you, would I be able to do that? And I know you can adjust the sizes of cymbals, but is it possible to change let's say the centre of the ride cymbal to a china? Also one last thing, is it possible to adjust sensitivity?
@iiJameeeees Hey, yeah thats fine the roland kit will respond to any type of cymbol. You can adjust the cymbol to have 2 sounds so i have the head on a ride and the rim on a china personally so it functions as two different things. And yes you can adjust the sensitivity thats one of the big improvements on its earlier models.
@spits3456 not a great deal the hi hat is more realistic and the bass drum has a mesh pad. The module has a few more sounds and more editing features with an on board mixer. Depends what you want really! Hope that helps you
Hey in ur vids u said that mesh gives better feel than rubber, i can understand that but is rubber really a handicap for a drummer or is it just a little less good than mesh?
Yup thats the great thing about the kit you can use any pad with the modules for example i could buy a TD 20 module and use this kit and it would sound 1000x better still :)
good stuff - just would have liked to hear the differences when you change the options, i.e. hit the snare as you add the tape/doughnuts etc - otherwise, cool
There should be a video by Jonny Rabb who goes into that detail far better than i could thats why i didnt bother. Search his name and you should find it dude
you can tighten or loosen the mesh heads like you would a normal head. But be careful with that because if you loosen to much and you play you could hit the sensors and then the pad will break
No dude all the kits are user kits you can change all the kits to whatever you want its not just one slot for you to do it. I have about 10 slots that i renamed for different songs etc. Its just it comes with 1 kit you can play with but u can change the names and pads on them all. hope that helps
Question: is this set any good for heavy metal? How does it accomodate a double bass pedal? Are there any sound presets specifically for metal on the module?
it's really really good for heavy metal. yeah the included pad for it suppodely doesn't accomadate well for double bass pedals but people can make it work ;)
also, if you can't make it work you can get a mesh bass pad for $375, which can DEFINITELY accomadate double bass drum pedals. and they have multiple presets for metal and you can also customize kits up to the bizzang, i.e cymbal size, mic placement... the list goes on and on. hope this helps ;)
Hi. I currently have a TD-9 kit (rubber pad toms) with td-3 brain. Should I upgrade the TD-3 brain to the TD-9, or would I get more milage out of using a soft synth such as superior drummer 2 using the kit as a trigger module?
ive been looking for a review of the td 9 for ages, i think after this video i'll definitley take the plunge and buy a td 9 as ive been thinking boutbuying one but just didnt know if it was worth the money thanks for the vids i love em
Problem with that is youtubes sound quality is rubbish compared to using my own headphones on the kit. I wouldnt be able to let you hear the full power of the kit because it doesnt sound great once it has been editied. there are lots of old rock and 70's kit sounds and remember you can customise every sound on the module, higher or lower, bigger or smaller to suit the sounds you want. I hope that helped but you really need to play the kit with some good headphones
and more thing steve,,i noticed this one video in youtube..he covered a lot of iron maiden drum cover..it seems to me he uses a td3drumkit..the toms and snare just like td3..but it seems weird..can u check it out..and tell me what u think..thank u..
Yeah you can slowly upgrade the rubber to the mesh but the pads are quite expensive to buy on there own. Your better off saving and buying a new kit really :)
Im looking to buy the td3, i saw your video on it, but there wasnt a decent module discussion.
Im looking for electric drums so that my folks dont have to put up with me, but i play metal, i dont mind about the matter of the drums, rather the diffrent setting of them.
are they good for metal?
what about splash and china, get your set them to thoose cymbals?
And, how about double kick, Whats the bass pad like for sensitivity?
I would say for metal its an ok kit but it may be worth you looking at the new TD4 (roughly same price as the TD3) it has editable functions like my td-9 has so that i can change the sounds of the cymbols. The KD-8 is a great bass pad and i use my double bass pedal with ease o it. I think for the money the td-9 may be the best way to go just because it alows you more expresive'ness and there is a great Heavy Metal kit on there.
Hey, nice review. I was wondering how noisy is the kit when played with headphones -no amplifier-, because i've heard that even though if you play it with headphones the pads are not that silent... and I live in a small appartment.
Well because its mesh it is very quite altho the bass drum when hit can make some thud sounds and my parents can hear me when i play it but if you buy a rug and try to dampen the sound its fine really. The rubber pads will make alot more noise tho. hope that helps!
Great review, thanks. I have the TD3 and I see that the TD9 has the same KD8 kickpad.
I'm taking lessons and the KD8 can't compare to the feel of real bass drum. I also don't love how loud the KD8 is in my apartment and the bounce back of the beater is lethargic.
What are your thoughts about the Roland mesh kickpad (kd85 or kd120)? They're pricey but I wonder if they would feel much better.
Well i think the mesh headed bass drums like the 120 feel alot better but as you stated they are very pricey and i just couldnt afford it. I dont think the kd8 is that bad though i care more about the toms and things.
Well its diff for each music store sometimes you get tight shops that wont give you anything but you have to learn to walk away. I think most music stores dont like to discount the actual kit because they would make less in profit terms, which seems odd because there giving you a free bass pedal! But you can ask them aabout deals... each shop will have different margins etc.
Can I connect Triggers (used with acoustic drums) to the Roland TD9 Module? I saw it only has 1 input for all the sounds.

Does anyone know how to update the software on a TD9KX?
Cheers

Im looking for electric drums so that my folks dont have to put up with me, but i play metal, i dont mind about the matter of the drums, rather the diffrent setting of them.
are they good for metal?
what about splash and china, get your set them to thoose cymbals?
And, how about double kick, Whats the bass pad like for sensitivity?
Please get back to me.

Hope it helps!

Thanks man.

Well i think the mesh headed bass drums like the 120 feel alot better but as you stated they are very pricey and i just couldnt afford it. I dont think the kd8 is that bad though i care more about the toms and things.

So i really have to go for the free bass pedal? or can i go for like a discount.
Vakamonkey 3 years ago
Well its diff for each music store sometimes you get tight shops that wont give you anything but you have to learn to walk away. I think most music stores dont like to discount the actual kit because they would make less in profit terms, which seems odd because there giving you a free bass pedal! But you can ask them aabout deals... each shop will have different margins etc.
