I've stopped in this town many times in the last 20+ years. It's amidon, ND. Tiny city with a major interstate going right through the middle of town. The speed limit is 30 in the city, but 75 outside. They have a problem of people who just cruise through doing 85, despite kids, and peoples dogs outside feet away from the road. They had a real cop car parked on the edge of town for decades, but about 10 years ago it was vandalized and replaced with this fake old chrystler. It works well ;-)
I've seen stuff like this before around where I live, but they at least use an old Caprice or Crown Vic so it's at least somewhat believable, and they move it around once in a while.
And chargers. Funny thing, where I am from the cops didn't use Vic's but they used Marauders. Naturally, police pursuits were ended nearly instantaneously.
With all the crown vics on the used car market and at cheap prices, that police department could do a much better job of making up a more believable fake cop car than this piece of shit and all the money spent on the decals for it.
Perfect example of the mentality of people today...always blame someone for something! This might be an honest effort by police to slow speeders down, make people think again, whatever....without actually risking a ticket to all the "great citizens". Instead of giving nods to a unique idea, someone has to bring up "liability" the 'ole "who can I sue" mentality!
@dalman34 No, put a real cop there and make citation revenue. If its such a problem that a fake car is needed, surely it should warrant the attention of a real one.
Such an old car like that won't be a very good deterrant... people are going to consider it an old abandoned vehicle long before they see the word "police" on it.
till people see it... then it's just a piece of shit sitting in front of the school.....
will only work if at least 1 day out of the week, there is a cop in it. and no cop is gonna sit in that piece of shit. i dont think they legally could anyways unless it had real lights, radio, etc. then that shit would get stolen.. (i know i'd consider it =P
Two city away from me they have a fake police car or cars. At one time it was a police car. They would sit Dummy in it BUT they would change the weg every now and coler of the skin to fool ya. I thought it was quit interesting at the time because it was the frist time I had seen one. OOh one last thing What made me supect some thing about this particgaler car was in was a mid's 90's old police car; I saw the fake police car in was in 2000 and it was a old design of police car.
I always keep a camera in the car for moments like that. I suspect that I will find a similar situation somewhere else in America...I'm on the hunt now.
I was thinking the other day... Why do cops hide ? shouldnt the point be just to make them slow down? what you are doing does the trick, and they don't get fined either.
That works better than a real cop. I've probably driven past that thing 5 or 10 times in my life, and I assure you I've slammed on the brakes every time.
@gelcap203 This must have been awhile ago because that car was really old! They use decoys all the time east of grand forks but I have never actually went up to one.
looks like an old fashion taxi

There a three-legged stray hanging out over here by the dumpster you can put it in the back seat and mark the car as "Police K-9 Unit".

We have one of these on I-95 near Palm Bay....
It's a real police car, but they just leave it parked in the median with no one in it (not even a dummy lol)
It probably causes more accidents than anything as everyone slams on their brakes when they spot it....
