capu666 you are part of the history of jj, unfortunately too many brazilians suffer from ego inflation, we are the best syndrome. obviosly youre one of these types... real respect doesnt come from intimidation or self praise/masterbation. it comes from genuine, modest likability. marcello garcia is a good example of this.
ari is one of the best teachers in rio de janeiro brazil. He is a head coach of carlson gracie culb - rio de janeiro. The principal and older jiu jitsu club in brazil - rio de janeiro. If any one of you think in my master guard . try to training with us in carlson gracie in copacabana. A lot of people start to learn jj since 2 or 3 years and think they are masters. In brazil we practice jj since we are children and we fight every moments of our life. Respect us. we are the history of jj. RJ-BR
Very nice technique, but a few things. 1. the passer is a white belt 2. he was going easy even for a whit ebelt. 3. he was using like one or two passes. I use handless guards from time to time to train my guard and one thing you can not stop is a pinning pass, this guy never tried one.
This technique is based on "movimentacao", a way to roll left and right with your legs and feed always turned on your opponent. It's not really difficult in training, but it is in a real fight. I did 3 stages with Ari Galo and 2 with one of his black belt learner. Absolutely best performer of Carlson Gracie BJJ in Brazil. Jimbo: of course he does. To a black belt too. Respect.
@PadLockum I feel like this doesn't mean a whole lot. It's a white belt trying to white belt guard passes using all hands and arms. I feel as if though a blue belt using low passing techniques would be able to pass this man's guard. Not to take anything away from Galo but a mere blue belt could do the same against a white belt trying to use all hands and arms.
I agree, I actually (since I saw this video) would practice not using my hands against lower belts and younger people and found it to become rather easy and fun. Very good practice..I can tell it stepped up my open guard ALOT.
@toob2toob whats the big difference betwen a high white and a low blue, this wasn't a white belt pass, black belts use the bull fight position at major competitions. Ari galo is a very highly ranked carlson gracie black belt and has one of the best guards in the world.

His guard looks good, but doing this drill with a white belt doesn't prove it's the best ever.

I gotta use this no hands approach as a drill to work on my guard, lately it hasn't been too good
downstreamlife 1 year ago
this is more a live drill to have an active guard.. Not so much a real grappling. Still it's a good drill to do.

Jiu-jitsu has proved that is the best martial art in the world... no coments. Although he`s a white belt.

You need to make a video explaining the concepts behind these maneuvers
PadLockum 2 years ago 3
the concept is guard recovery. Eduardo Telles shows this exact drill on disc 1 of his turtle guard DVD.

@bjjartist its similar to the tornado roll chuck analzone shows on youtube
