I wish to see more of our young generation playing our traditional instruments. Hearing the Tro sound particularly at night can bring tears to our eyes. Thank you so much for your comment.
It almost makes me cry to hear such young Cambodian Americans treasure our beautiful Khmer tradition. I applaud Sakara for embracing close to her roots.
Not sure what music background you have. Sakara plays piano and viola prior to Tro. She spent about 2hrs a week with her Tro teacher during her Senior year in HS. I videotaped each song and this way she could watch and rewatch and practice at home. As you know, there are no note to follow. Her teacher, as many older Khmer tro players, does not know music note.
And also easy songs if possible. I'm also a musician, I play the clarinet and started learning the violin about a year ago. I also play the spanish bagpipe. If you are interested on being my friend, my email address is day.limonte@gmail.com I would love to have someone to visit to next time I come to Cambodia.
Hello, my name is Daylin. First of all thanks for sharing your lovely music with us. I recently went to Cambodia a few days ago and love the music and dances, traditions, people, EVERYTHING. I brought with me a Tro and a Skor. I tried looking for someone to teach me while being there but the musicians I found in my way didn't speak english at all.I still learned the position to hold the Tro and the initial scale though, but don't know what's next. Can you please share with me some exercises?
