why didn't you just suggest using the special hot wire cutter thing? that cuts through polystirine and things like it very easily, heck it melts it slightly, making it smooth afterwerds

Extruded foam (pink, blue, yellow) all work much better than this. Not only can you actually paint it, but you don't have this kind of problem. There was a thing invented a long time ago called home depot and lowes that carries this stuff. I know how much you want to be like BTP, and guess what. They use pink foam.

pink foam isnt available in all states im talking about states that only have white foam

If you have problems with the white foam...Head out to home depot and for 10 bucks you can get a sheet of pink insulating foam that is 3/4 inch thick. if you have it cut to 4x6 you have a table...all you gotta do is place it on top of a 4x6 piece of plywood and you now have a table. get other sheets of foam and you can change them out for different terrain styles. If youre looking for a smooth foam cut then you may want to look up a Hot-wire foam cutter that GW sells.

It is a large U shaped metal rod with a tight wire spanning the gap and a tube with batteries in it on one end of the U. you turn a piece of metal along the tube to complete the circuit and it causes the wire to get pretty hot and it just slices through foam like its going through jello. Its really good on that pink foam i mentioned above for making terrain like hills and whatnot. For hills just cut 2 shapes, one smaller than the other, connect them and sand them down to create the hill
