Average working horses such as cattle horse, work horses pulling and such, etc who are properly trained with patient and diligent owners can have careers up to 10 years retiring at age twelve and live to be twenty or better. Right now they are trying to develop rubber debris tracks instead of the dirt. This would give them more cushion and more spring. However it would blow record
Horse racing is the sport of kings and champions. They don't see those animals as anything more then money bags. The average age of training and LIGHT riding for a horse when it comes to riding is 2 years. Their joints aren't strong enough for competing or riding just yet. They age them on paper, Thoroughbreds aka Race horses, by a year so they start HEAVY riding and training at age 1. Then they are ran and trained to death and pumped for of LEGAL supplements. I don't agree that racing should be banned. There are freak accidents in every horse sport, including trail riding. What happens to the racehorses is partially preventable, but not totally. If the trainers start the horses later and give them time to develop, then it would be better. You can't ban a horse from doing something he loves though. Barbaro and Eight Belles both loved to run. That's why they won almost all their races with the rest of the field eating their dust.
Pit bulls were bred to be attack dogs, but it doesn't mean that dogfighting should exist.
And with retarded breeders, too many animals exist without demand for them, making them homeless and unwanted- just like racehorses. Even out of the thousands bred, "greatness" is rare. There are so many thoroughbreds in circulation that no one wants; and, naturally, they end up in bad places.
That's a totally different subject. The dogs don't love to fight, like most of these horses love to run. Racing is not horse abuse, where dog fighting is abuse.
Like I said before, stuff like stupid breeders happen in every breed imaginable, not just thoroughbreds. I don't think that people should be targeting just one breed or sport. That's just my opinion.

She was my horse, she died about a year ago. And i remember looking into her eyes and then seeing this vid I saw the same thing in Barbaro's eyes. I believe he could have won the triple crown. Great song and video! But, why don't they show the video footage of Barbaro on the walk to the starting gates that day? He was walking funny and you can even see the jockey turning and looking down at Barbaro's back leg. Strike one. I told my husband before the he even got into the gate that something was wrong with Barbaro. Then, he abnormally broke the gate before the race. Strike Two. He was trying to tell them something. I guess he finally struck out.

Barbaro was an amazing horse. They've bred two full brothers of Barbaro, But I, as well as many others, know that you can't breed heart. That's why he ran, he a champion, bound for greatness. He was never forced to run, you can't force a horse to run. They run because they can, because they WANT to, and Barbaro did just that.
The owners of this horse and any owners of animals that force them to compete are disgraceful. His leg would never have been broken if he wasn't racing in the first place. I sympathize with Barbaro, but not with his owners. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Those horses are treated better than most people. Yes, It's unfortunate about what happened, but to say the owners should be ashamed is ignorant and inconsiderate on your part. Go to a race and relax for the day. I BET you'll enjoy yourself.
His owners could have put him down on the track and collected their insurance and gotten more money than they got in the end. But you know what? They didn't, because they loved him. It would have been a lot easier just to have him killed right then and there. But they didn't, for the love of an animal. and mipian is right: Barbaro would never have been born if it wasn't for horse racing in the first place.
This video was just awesome. A horse's eyes are truly a window to their soul. Barbaro was and still is a true champion. May the Lord bless the family who owned him, the jockey who rode him, the people who worked with him every day and the doctors who so valiantly tried to save his life. Barbaro gave his all to live. Highest praise for this video. I am 51 years old and I cry every time I think of Barbaro being gone. My heart goes out to everyone who tried to help him and the Jacksons for wanting to save him. I guess "Big Red" needed a friend in Heaven and Barbaro was the best.
Barbaro just exemplifies what God is capable of. Something so beautiful, so graceful, so strong, can only be the product of an omniscient force. People can think what they want, "he was just a horse", or "too big a deal is made", but the fact is God created Barbaro the way he did for us to admire, and to understand what He himself is capable of. If you can't think of others feelings, please do not post. No matter what species you are, when you form a bond it is for life. You hurt, you cry. My pets are my babies as much as my children. When they do finally pass, it will not make the pain any less to call them "just animals". They have all the same feelings-love, joy, hate, sorrow. Great song and video! But, why don't they show the video footage of Barbaro on the walk to the starting gates that day? He was walking funny and you can even see the jockey turning and looking down at Barbaro's back leg. Strike one. I told my husband before the he even got into the gate that something was wrong with Barbaro. Then, he abnormally broke the gate before the race. Strike Two. He was trying to tell them something. I guess he finally struck out.

Barbaro was an amazing horse. They've bred two full brothers of Barbaro, But I, as well as many others, know that you can't breed heart. That's why he ran, he a champion, bound for greatness. He was never forced to run, you can't force a horse to run. They run because they can, because they WANT to, and Barbaro did just that.

The owners of this horse and any owners of animals that force them to compete are disgraceful. His leg would never have been broken if he wasn't racing in the first place. I sympathize with Barbaro, but not with his owners. They should be ashamed of themselves.

His owners could have put him down on the track and collected their insurance and gotten more money than they got in the end. But you know what? They didn't, because they loved him. It would have been a lot easier just to have him killed right then and there. But they didn't, for the love of an animal. and mipian is right: Barbaro would never have been born if it wasn't for horse racing in the first place.

This video was just awesome. A horse's eyes are truly a window to their soul. Barbaro was and still is a true champion. May the Lord bless the family who owned him, the jockey who rode him, the people who worked with him every day and the doctors who so valiantly tried to save his life. Barbaro gave his all to live. Highest praise for this video. I am 51 years old and I cry every time I think of Barbaro being gone. My heart goes out to everyone who tried to help him and the Jacksons for wanting to save him. I guess "Big Red" needed a friend in Heaven and Barbaro was the best.

Barbaro just exemplifies what God is capable of. Something so beautiful, so graceful, so strong, can only be the product of an omniscient force. People can think what they want, "he was just a horse", or "too big a deal is made", but the fact is God created Barbaro the way he did for us to admire, and to understand what He himself is capable of.
