  • For regular NJT riders, I'd say this is crowded. It could be more crowded but it usually never gets to that stage that often. Anyone who's rode morning Trenton trains on weekdays and even weekends knows it can get crazy. I've rode trains in the morning which have people standing from end to end (on NJCL that is). Not sure why people brag about their system having more...that's more of an issue itself than a for fun fact xD

  • Dude this how my ride was like heading to Trenton from New York yesterday. I had to stand all the way to Metro park because every seat was taken.

  • i used to always take the train to the city and it was well worth it at that time($15 RT from metuchen to NY) But now it is not worth i mean, $11 one way!

  • @trainzrok Yeah NJTransit keeps raising the ticket price, which is really annoying. Despite that, it is still better to take the train into NYC, as there are way too much traffic on highways in and around the city on top of the parking fees and tolls continue to go up. For short distance travel (up to 5-10 miles), the best way to get around suburban New Jersey is by bike, since not only you save gas and money, you also get good exercise.

  • @NHRHS2010 I think it's really nuts that njt raised the fares in 2010. But I think they should at least bring back Off Peak Round Trip Tickets because it's a little to expensive to take the train to like NY. It's $15 one-way and it get also very crowded but I think that NJT should at least bring back Round Trip Fares!

  • Ok, you dont know what is like to take a bus where I live.

Your train is far faaar better, u shoudnt complain

  • @wrong1user I'm not complaining. I am just demonstrating how crowded the trains are between Secaucus, New Jersey to New York City. Driving to New York City is a LOT worse.

  • Hah that's not really crowded, in my point of view. But I know what you mean.. we live in different realities and it's hard to get on our shoes. When I went to Toronto sometimes I would hear a Canadian friend complaining about things that were so much better than what I am used to.. It was hard to hear things like that because i felt really sad that we had such a disproportional reality. But people have to deal with it, life is unfair you know..

Yes, I do know the meaning of the word 'crowded'. Yes, I have heard of trains/subways even more crowded than the train in this video, such as the Tokyo's subway where workers have to push people in.

  • Good sarcasm!

    crowded... ROFLOL

  • Sir, you really don't know the meaning of the word 'crowded' do you?

Search for "Metro Sp - Hora do Rush" THAT'S crowded. And i have to take it everyday...

  • vsf

  • @darthmma ???

  • WOW!!! Poor guy... I'm really sorry for you. You have to move to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Here the subway is perfect! You can't move a foot or your arm and must be around 10x more crowded than this train. Cheers! Gotta love Brazil!

  • Deve ser horrível morar em um lugar como esse! (2)

  • Bu-hu poor boy. Come to Brazil take the train in São Paulo to see what crowded is. And you'll learn another word too: dirty!

  • Deve ser horrível morar em um lugar como esse!

  • @lcdluizcarlos I know what you are saying since I had to use Google Translate, but could people PLEASE COMMENT IN ENGLISH!?!

  • Crowded my ass. CityRail suburban trains in Sydney are shoulder to shoulder crowded, often passengers are left behind.

  • Nice video.

  • excellent video.....

  • Thanks!

  • Its just like that from SEC to NWK.

  • yep, since SEC to NWK is immediately after NYP to SEC.

  • It's crowded because it's the best way to get from Secaucus to NYC!

  • The train is indeed the best and easiest way to from Secaucus to NYC. In 2017, another tunnel will open adjacent to the existing tunnel to ease train congestion.

  • @NHRHS2010 Actually the tunnel that will be adjacent to the North River Tunnels are for trains from the Hoboken Division not the NEC.

  • you're referring "trains from Hoboken Division" as Main, Bergen, Port Jervis, and Pascack Valley lines, right?

  • @NHRHS2010 yes

  • Well that's exciting, since people by those lines, who had to transfer at Secaucus, will be able to use the new tunnel!

  • reminds me of morning Midtown Direct

  • Well, it's because on weekday mornings, the inbound trains (going into New York Penn Station) are in peak period. Loads of commuters are going to work in New York City. I have no idea what people do on weekends, crowding up the train at first.

  • yeaa but Midtown Direct trains begin to look like that around Maplewood/South Orange on weekends as well(at least at Secaucus your only 10 minutes away from Manhattan),...MD has had an overcrowding problem since its started. If your getting on a train from Dover during the weeknds or rush hour at S.Orange or Maplewood(2 of the busiest stations on the line) trying to find a seat can be quite a challenge, reason being weekend service needs to run every 1/2 hr on the line instead of every hr

  • where u in the tunnel under the hudson river at the time?

  • Yes I was indeed.

  • Awesome! Looks like a Comet 1B car

  • Those are actually Arrow MU's. But good observation!

  • I don't know much about NJ transit! I guess Comet 1B's are rebuilds from Arrow MU's?

  • Correct.

  • These are arrow 3s but the 1Bs were rebuilt from arrow 1s.

  • They still didn''t update the interor like septa's silverliner 4

    Thats the classic old Interior

  • I can tell...some NJTransit trains are old, while there are actually new trains on some routes...recently, I am seeing more multilevel trains going around.

  • This is why the Bi-Levels were made. To fit more people than these Arrow IIIs can.

  • Yep...some trains traveling between Secaucus and NYPS are actually the Bi-levels (I've been on them) but all trains on lines where it's apparent that the Arrow IIIs can't fit all passengers, should have bilevels

  • There sure are a lot of people in that train, lol.

  • Yes there is indeed. The tunnel under the Hudson River between Secaucus and Manhattan already reached capacity but the trains continue to be crowded so NJTransit is working on a solution: a new tunnel and an expansion of Penn Station, which will be completed in about 2017.

  • That sounds like a really long time to make that tunnel.

  • The project actually started in like 1993, but there had been setbacks for several reasons including money issues. However, NJTransit never gave up on the project and in 2006, the actual plans for the new tunnel and NYPS expansion were unveiled. Preliminary engineering occurred in 2006 or 2007 and construction is starting later this year...maybe within a month or during the summer. It will take 8 years to build the tunnel. Just like the construction on Secaucus station took place from 1995-2003

  • Sounds like a pretty long time ago, which also sounds interesting. :)
