Do you have an opinion concerning the 7th's Ghost Light (the original episode that was going to be used was turned into a book-Lungbarrow, but they changed it possibly because far, far too much would have been known about the Doctor)?
Infact, I've been thinking, JNT denied Colin Baker's request to wear black as it would have been too similar to the Master. Maybe that could have been the whole point- what a great story arc it would have been to show how the Doctor was succumbing to the dark side more, resembling his archenemy for one thing. It would have tied in greatly with the Valeyard, and could have led the Doctor to question his true nature, analysing the death and destruction he causes, like in the 5th Doctor era.
I haven't seen the Big Finish audios yet, but i think Colin Bakerwas badly treated in his TV era and didnt have a chance. most of the writing was terrible, he was forced to wear that costume, and the "heavy violence" claims are a bit misplaced to me. So many people argue "he killed Shockeye! That's not like the Doctor!" Shockeye Was TRYING TO EAT HIM, he deserved to die! He used killing as a last resort, and does 4 killing Solon in The Brain of Morbius suddenly not exist anymore?
I don't see what was wrong about the scripts. Really it's just Paradise Towers (ugh) and The Twin Dilemma (painful to watch)! The Curse of Fenrick and Remembrance of the Daleks are both well written and probably the best of the era. It might be a little hard to get over most of them though because they're no longer making sci-fi a huge statement in the stories, in fact you could even say that Gostlight is a historical tale!
I really disagree with your moment involving McCoy's Doctor, I would have picked the sniper scene or the conversation with Helen A from Happiness Patrol, those two or the standoff at the end of Curse of Fenric.
It's good to see someone appreciating Sylvester's talent. He wasn't wrong for the part, he was just a change of type. It's horrible when they kill him off at the beginning of the TV movie. That sygnalled for me the end of the series...
Saying that I rather like the Sixth Doctor. He was let down by the TV scripts but as you say redeemed by the BF audio series. Colin Baker is wonderful in those.
I loved season 24 :(

Two fine examples of why Classic Who was declining in its final 5 seasons, struggling to average 4.0 million/ episode.
The C. Baker and McCoy eras at their very best were far below the average established by Hartnell, Troughton, Pertwee and T.Baker.
In fairness, the writing WAS lousy, but that's just another symptom of the confused production of Jonathan Nathan-Turner.
I hope the New Series never descends to the lows often reached in Seasons 22,23,24,25 and 26.

The two greats of the Colin Baker era are the Revalation of the daleks (even though he doesn't do much) and most deffinitly The Ultimate Foe.
