Any genetic defects that the parents may have get passed on to the next generation, which then gets passed on and on. I am a full supporter of using nanotechnology to replace bad genetic sequences with good ones, especially in the Germ cells. I've been a Type 1 diabetic for years, and dealing with high and low bloodsugars, insulin injections, and bloodtesting is NOT ok.

Makes sense... but like whats wrong with people who have slight diseases. If they have something which will ultimately kill them, then yes you can change it. But if its like theyre deaf or blind or they have other types of diseases, embrace it. its not a defect- its different :]

I personally love the prospect of genetic engineering. Despite all the hatred, all the stupidity we homosapiens have been progressing all throughout our history.
Ironically that could very well be our downfall. By attaining the ability to change our environment we have essentially halted evolution. Unless we take our evolution into our own hands, it will remain stagnant and eventually so to will civilization.
I personally am ready to accept any consequences in the name of evolution.

@67lyman Question: If God did not want us to discover and utilize this technology, why would he make it so easy for us? Why doesn't God simply stop the things that he doesn't want? Maybe he's impotent. Maybe he's indifferent. Or maybe, just maybe, he isn't there. If an embryo is a human being, why aren't they counted in the census? And if God's so powerful, why'd it take him 6 whole days to create everything, and then has to rest? I guess he's really not all that powerful, is he?

@bma051000 God may have made it so easy for us to see if we would choose to use it. It's in our power to not use this technology. Just because it's easy for you to eat poison doesn't mean that you necessarily would. God is a very confusing subject. I think we must first define what God truly is to answer the famous question "Does God exist?". For example, one person's God could be the wonder of science itself while another's God is a physical human-like powerful being.

Murder implies sentience, which first trimester embryos lack. God doesn't give anyone babies, they're determined by genetics. I doubt that cosmetic choices should be a primary concern though, I'd rather them not developing cancer as easily or living longer, not looking good.

I'm totally for cloning, and Totally for Designer babies, but i'm not so sure about Genetic Modification by way of altering the genes. Things should be kept looking natural, we should stay human and not delve into some other species, but over and above, we should still look forward to take control of mother nature.

I think id want my child to see or hear or have arms rather than not. Details like eyecolor are rubbish, as long as it would be physically healthy. But still, its made of my genetic material, so even if its as dreadfully attractive as I am (-_-) when it grows up, it still gonna be unique, cuz its not a clone... unless it were to have an identical twin. I would argue that being prone to alzheimers or having a low IQ is not beauty, uniqueness yes, but not beauty.
