  • Great job on the video. Why can't all clips be this accurate?? The camera angle was perfect...every string/fret clearly visible! Nice job on the tuning explanation as well! 5 stars!!

  • can you explain the tuning for that for me

  • ohhhh yeahhh

  • Hi this is the most useful cover I have found so far. I have got the tuning OK but I am not sure I have got one of the "step downs" quite right. The first one I can see is on the 1st and 6th strings, 3rd fret and 5th fret sliding down to 2nd and 4th fret. But for the step down on the 2nd string, 5th fret to 4th fret, I cant quite see what bass note is played there. Is it really 5th string sliding from 4th fret to 2nd fret ? Only it just doesnt sound quite right to me when I play it that way..

  • Hi Tom, beautiful vid, would love to hear it all the way through. Could you tell me what tuning you are using as this was the song for my first dance at my wedding and I always sing it to the wife. would be good if I could supprise her and play it on our 5th anaversary.

  • Great cover dude its perfect and your guitar sounds sweet as a nut mate.

  • you are destroying what he stands for - namely honesty. that;s why you don't have it

  • Ah the Internet bless where everybody is right! damned good cover mate lol I have certainly learnt the song because of this, more than anything else, so thanks a lot, and 28,558+ is still good even for old John himself.

  • I was searching for info about Martyn's tunings so, thanks! This was awesome.

  • I don't believe it really matters what the title is as it's such a well done cover, it's helped me learn to play the song so top class tam

  • mate, dont title your videos as if its ACTUALLY john martyn playing. I have no interest in seeing some amateur covering this. If I did, I would type the title above and add the word COVER. you should do the same.

  • @creamslut Mate, don't call me mate.

    Thanks.

  • @tomscotland "mate, dont call me mate."

    self defeating no?

    I think so.

title your videos differently. what I refer to you as does not change that.

  • @creamslut I'll call my videos whatever I want to call my videos. Are you american?

  • @tomscotland

    what difference does that make?

and no, sadly you cant blame heritage.

    I am Irish.

  • @creamslut

look, this is pointless. You cant police youtube. There are tens of thousands of videos out there that arent tagged or titled to your satisfaction. The whole world isn't a film about YOU. Just let it go.

  • @tomscotland its not pointless. you have 22 thousand views because most of them are people typing in John Martyn Couldn't love you more. you know what you are at. if it makes you feel better about yourself fine, but don't claim its due to MY narcissism. you know DAMN well its due to YOURS. Its a search engine. you are tricking it. cop yourself on.

  • @creamslut

Gies peace ya dolt. I really dont care how many people have watched it, and to that end I can assure you the video title is NOT a cynical ploy to garner views. Yes, I could probably have titled it better but you know what? It doesn't actually matter to anyone except you. Why is that?

  • @creamslut are you for real ? people who have used this video to learn the music will share with others because its a damn fine piece of music and this video is an excellent tutorial. People will share this and generate interest in John Martyns music. With all due respect, how many people do you think searched "tomscotland" after watching this video? not as many as those who searched for John Martyn.... you see my point ?

  • @creamslut what ever you are, your defiantly unnecessarily rude.. if you actually play guitar, you'd think this was a cool and useful video.

  • great sound!! Thanks for that!

  • this is a amazing, and thanks for uploading!

    *goes to get his guitar*

  • Fantastic, thanks

  • Superb demo.....I'm off to explore the tuning. Well done!

  • Does anyone have a tab for this? Working out the exact fingering is a little difficult...

  • No worries - nailed it!

  • pants with incident! el tweed. it is actually funnny what do happen to Harris (that's the gold star) unforgivable...Hey Why do i care...........all my life i luve this trouble shuck!

  • Does anyone have an accurate tab for this?

  • good playing

  • does anyone have a video of the song by JM the River.. dare anyone to play and sing a version of it- that's a TUNE

  • @nobrainwash uploading "back down the river" now. No singing mind!

  • John died!?! ......I don't know what to say? I guess I will light a candle! John was as close to being a genius as they come! wow!

  • sounds great..well done..you are very true to the sound....rip jm.

    xx

  • This sounds great, fantastic playing.

    John would be impressed!

    Rest in peace big man!

  • John died this morning, to anyone who might care - RIP John, a legend.

    Fucking gutted.

  • Yes im fucking gutted too tom but what a legacy of music missing him already

  • What a loss..... to think of some of the crap out there that is called music.. and a genius like John is no longer. A very sad day. RIP Big Man

  • Agreed no one will ever replace john

  • yup i second that RIP John Martyn, one of the great guitarists and songwriters of our time.

But his music will live on at least. music like this will always be timeless.

Dissappointed I never saw him live though.

  • Also gutted, but thanks for posting this. I'll try and play it at a gig tomorrow as a tribute

  • Nice way I guess for me to find out, one of those that bring a tear to your eye when you hear it...only a few like that...John's friend Nick Drake is another one. May they never lay their heads down, without a hang to hold...rip

  • brilliant, thanks .. i will have a go at learning

  • bravissimo complimenti

  • CFCCGD low to high.

  • So am just curious.

    Ta.

    :)

    n

  • Nice....you play this with a lovely light touch, I absolutely love this song, particulally John with Danny Thompson on the OGWT.beautiful..

    I know it's a short song...but you've made it even shorter ! lol :)

    Enjoyed, Jane.

  • Now that is deep and rich and delicious- could listen to this all day ! Thanks :)

  • one of my dads favs, he says you play sweet

  • Hats off to ya! need to learn the words tho! lol

  • What are the tunings? I seem to have missed part of the thread?

  • CFCCGD low to high

  • What Guage strings are you using? I think i will have to increase the thickness of mine to get rid of the tinny sound.

  • I'm using 13-56's. I prefer thicker guages on lower tunings. Some reckon thats insanely thick on an acoustic. I certainly wouldn't want to be playing at concert pitch with those on! They're like fence wire!!

  • I've got 12's on my guitar, but they still sound too 'loose'...Fairly short scale length tho...

    Anyhoo, good cover Sir..

  • fantastic. I have some work to do now to try and get this. And thanks for the tuning too.

  • Nice one, had the tuning but you've given me the missing notes as well.
