do you know how an hour it cost to lease a ku-band antenna on a commercial satelite. if you can build a drone that can find its way home with lost link, have an IR camera that can tell if u need to shave from 30000 ft and can stay in the air for 18-22 hours, and also carry 8 hell fire missiles or 4 gbu-12 bombs and send the video link to any location in the world, and can do it for less than a mil. your a bad som-bitch

The reaper is what im working on now. and its a bad bitch. if your going air force then id try to get in UAVs, cause when u get out, you cn make huge money. im 26 and making 6 figures a year. almost 600 a day when im deployed
UAVs are crap. They are easier to shoot down, the signal from the controller to aircraft can easily be disrupted, the onboard camera can easily be disabled using a laser, they can be hit by SAMs before they can fire their weapons and they are vulnerable to computer viruses and other types of electric warfare and cyber terrorism. And if an air-to-air combat UAV is ever made, it will get shot down because a pilot that is not on board the plane cannot look around and act as quickly.

Spend the money & human resources instead on hospitals, agriculture, schools & university buildings, equipment & people, conservation research &projects, etc. Everyone says aerospace is justified by 'spin-offs' as if that's the only way to get spin-offs. We'd get more good spin-offs from all the above. How useful was it, really, to put someone on the moon? Exciting, fun, but a fantasy of misidrected money, just like all this 'heroic' destructive military spending that kicks the hornets nests.

true there very much needed funds else where. But look at the figures!!!!! this saves HUGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY. 54 million for one drone! do you realize what it costs to send 1 F-16 falcon into combat? Buy the plane for 120-160 million, send 3 avionics 3 mechs 3 airframe, and then the ground support for 6 months for 2 shifts a day per plane. Ill average the ranks to make a flat rate. Your looikin at 200mil min, not counting fuel or food

@mulletmaffia84 I bet I could build one of those drones out of an old glider and an old laptop with satellite internet for a couple of hundred dollars, but it would still be a waste of money. Better to spend the $200 on compost for soy beans and rice so there'd be no point in any war anyhow. The aircraft manufacturers are making a big markup on those drones when you think it really only costs about $200 to make one.

do you know how an hour it cost to lease a ku-band antenna on a commercial satelite. if you can build a drone that can find its way home with lost link, have an IR camera that can tell if u need to shave from 30000 ft and can stay in the air for 18-22 hours, and also carry 8 hell fire missiles or 4 gbu-12 bombs and send the video link to any location in the world, and can do it for less than a mil. your a bad som-bitch

pilot... the air force by 2023 once a uav for every type of mission the air force. for example, they want bomber, intel and surveillance, attack, stealth fighter, command center, refueler, and cargo. u become a pilot in the air force. you will fly an uav eventually

@trey0189 actually i was navy, im a civilian now. i didnt work on 22s, but in 6 years or so the airforce should have the f35 which i used to work on a deleop. The reaper is what im working on now. and its a bad bitch. if your going air force then id try to get in UAVs, cause when u get out, you cn make huge money. im 26 and making 6 figures a year. almost 600 a day when im deployed

UAVs are crap. They are easier to shoot down, the signal from the controller to aircraft can easily be disrupted, the onboard camera can easily be disabled using a laser, they can be hit by SAMs before they can fire their weapons and they are vulnerable to computer viruses and other types of electric warfare and cyber terrorism. And if an air-to-air combat UAV is ever made, it will get shot down because a pilot that is not on board the plane cannot look around and act as quickly.

You 1) have to be an Air Force officer. 2) have to have been an ACTUAL AF pilot in select airframes and 3) you have to be chosen from a couple thousand other pilots trying to get into this high demand job.
