can someone tell me what particular synths and being used in this song, along with many of the other songs off of this ep and the "here comes everybody" album?
This is probably the finest single release from The Wake - better even than the two singles before it (Of The Matter and Talk About The Past), only because on this 4 tracker they have finally stepped out from the shadow of New Order and come up with a fantastic and diverse pop record! Shame it was their last for Factory and soon they would sign to Sarah Records and become a completely different sounding band ..... Still a great band though : some of their Sarah stuff is also quite good.
last winter i listened to this record and lyceum by the orchids together non-stop. two very complementary flavors. this is my favorite wake track. thanks!
they played this song on the PA between the support act and headline of a Pains Of Being Pure At Heart gig. it made me happy :). if you like this music defo check out Pains.
"Immigration? No way! Think it tells you more about the people who think that than about the song itself. It's a grotesque fantasy about an unwelcome visitor - inspired by the visit of a drunken relative - but not about 'foreigners' or anything like that."
I don't have the lyrics myself sadly. a lot of lyrics have been posted onto song meanings by me from a lyrics sheet that came with my here comes everybody LP.
Alternatively I could maybe get in touch with Caeser and ask him for the lyrics, but I'm not sure...
This is great.

This is not the real Wake, this is the tepid Wake!

@williamsterben The real Wake? Sure. Keep listening to what sounds like old men straining on the toilet, amplified.

Wow, no, I don't think so!

I'm not saying this band is fascist or racist or anything. I'm only asking a question.

Hmmm... I don't believe this band has anything to do with THE WAKE, an American goth band of the 'Christine' and 'Nazarene' fame???
Too many bands use the same names and it's becoming really confusing, not to mention annoying!
Homoholic 3 years ago
Well, this is the first Wake! In America though the album sleeves would say "The Wake UK", because of the goth band.

I love this song! I want the lyrics too! pleaaase
pbredoww 3 years ago
it sure is a brilliant pop song, if you dont like it after the first 20 secs then you wont ever like it.
The guitar solo quicky bit near the end that mirrors the melody of the earlier vocal.....the synthy bells, the vocal mix at the end....just fantastic.
Anyone post the lyrics?? I have always wanted to sing along, but just cant decipher!
