They did it because it was part of thier contract. They were young and signed a music deal without any representation or lawyer present. Their contract stated they had to do that. It's hard to get out of a contract, literally costing thousands or millions, Not to mention they'd have to give up their fame.

correct but was not the actual singer the real singers lacked a marketable image. the record company then recruited Robert Pilatus and Fabrice Morvan, two younger model/dancers he found dancing in a Munich dance club, to front the act/etc. The real singer were overweight this guy is covering the song but still okay.
