  • How do you keep the ends of the zipper from bunching????

  • Hi vanessa! I love your tutorial, very helpful. I have a question about the zipper. Can you sew it on without having the zipper foot? Can you sew it with a regular foot?

  • @cabrasafada Technically you could if you had a skinny foot or could move the needle position on your machine to get that stitch line nice and close to the teeth. Hope that helps. :o)

  • Excellent, I’m taking a sewing course soon - i wonder if we can use the same process with leather instead of fabric :)

  • @ir0n2541 I don't see why not.. you do have to make sure you have a heavy duty machines, leather or upholstery needle, etc. It may be tough.. but it should work the same. I also wouldn't use a lightweight plastic zipper on leather..go for a more heavy duty metal one. Hope that helps.

  • Vanessa, I'm getting ready to make this project. The glue stick you're using, are you calling that a lapel stick? Does this hurt your machine in any way? Do you have any issues with your machine? Is there a build up at all? I love the fact that I wouldn't have to use pins. Thanks for your time. Dawn

  • @LuvMuzic21 Yes, that is the name of the product. If you do a google search for it you will find it. It doesn't hurt your machine or gum up your needle at all. It is non-toxic and specifically designed to be sewn through so it's a fab little product! I use it all the time to baste small pieces. Hope that helps! :o)

  • This is one of my favorite videos of yours!! Very professional!! Great tutorial. YOu made it so the zipper sewing was not so intimidating. TY again.

  • @BuyAClueDude Thanks so much. Glad to help! :o)

  • I made one of these, and I am still amazed at how professional it looks. Thank you for making sewing fun!

  • @miriam315mary haha.. awesome! Are you like me that stays staring at it from all different directions and telling yourself.. "Wow, I can't believe I actually made this!" That is one of the best feelings.. and I'm glad my tutorials are easy for you to follow! Keep it up! :o)

  • i'm new at sewing and is making these cometic wristlets as christmas gifts. my sewing seems so messy and not like yours. I can do the straight lines, but i seem to always have extra thread at the beginning and end of my lines. What am I doing wrong?

  • @missymiss209 The extra thread is going to always be there because that is where you start and stop sewing. You just have to clip those threads as you go and make sure you don't cut into the fabric when you snip them. Just part of the process.

  • can you do a tutorial with table cloth material? So the bag would be water proof? it's kind of hard to sow weird materials that's not meant to be sewn by consumers... thanks! :) ps: this was great!

  • @DomDollx I'll add your suggestion to my list of tutorials to do. Thanks!

  • I'll be making this today! sooo excited :) thank you thank you thank you!

  • @SrebrnaAkacja No problem! Let me know how it goes for you. You can always post pics to our facebook age too. We love to see everyone's projects there. facebook(dot)com/craftygemini

  • hi..just asking do u sew through the zipper..can u show how to sew through the zipper..i had trouble sewing that part...how did u do it?help me please..tq in advance..

  • @annekhalid Yes. You sew through the zipper on the ends but make sure you are using one that does NOT have the metal teeth... Otherwise you would have to sew it by hand.

  • Hi Vanessa, I'm hoping you can help me. I find that your tutorials are dummy proof =-). I have been searching for the easiest video on how to sew on a front zipper (on pants skirts shorts) can you do a tutorial of one. Thank you.

  • @SuchaCaligrrl I'll add your suggestion to my list of tutorials to do. Thanks for the suggestion. :o)

  • Thank you so much for posting this tutorial. I was going to buy a vera bradley wristlet, but then I watched this. Now I am inspired to create my own. It's much cooler to say you made something yourself than to say I spent $30 on a name brand wristlet.

  • @BuffaloPrincess Definitely! I'm so glad you found my tutorial, too. :o) Post pics to our facebook page once you're done with it. I'm sure it will be cuter than the name brand stuff anyways! facebook(dot)com/CraftyGemini

  • Hi from FL! So cool, I was just going to ask if you would post a tutorial on how to add a zipper to a project! So cool :D

  • @gingermist21 Hi there! Yea, I had to put this tutorial out there... I've had A LOT of viewers ask for a zipper video. Glad you liked it! :o)

  • these are great little bags for a night out, when you just want a few dollars and a lip gloss and don't need your entire purse!!!

  • @kidsvids2007 That's exactly right! I don't carry a purse. Instead I have a few of these I switch out for daily use. They are perfect to carry essentials and can be thrown in a diaper bag so you don't have to carry two bags, etc.

  • I'll be posting my finished product...mine's just a bit smaller. I was looking for something to hold my sunglasses & cellphone. I used a 7inch. zipper and went down an inch on the width. I agree with the other posts...the zipper was a scary thought. Not anymore:) I've never done quilting, so I used the inside of a girl's jacket that I bought at a garage sale. Just another idea.

  • @Doggyprincess981 Awesome! It did turn out great! :o)

  • That looks so easy! Thanks! I will be sure to post a photo when I complete one. I am trying to talk myself out of starting one right now. lol

  • @Taliaris haha.. I feel you! Some of my best work has been done late at night. ;o)

  • Looking forward to this! Zippered projects intimidate me!!!!

  • @Taliaris Give it a try! I bet you'll do fine! :o)

  • Very nice Tutorial, as usual :D.

  • @lysambre Thanks!

  • hey i want to know what you used to make and edit this video? thankz

  • @CyCysFashions The camera I use is a Canon EOS Rebel T3i.....and I use Final Cut Pro X to edit. :o)

  • @TheCraftyGemini at thanks! p.s. I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!

  • You know, having sewn for probably 40 years now, I think it's just genius that you're suggesting using a glue stick in lieu of pins. Great tip for beginners. You're a great teacher --

  • @mwnjw Thanks so much! I just love shortcuts! :o)

  • Oh, and thanks for the tip on Lapel Stick! I hate pinning because it sometimes distorts the shape of the fabric. Can't wait to try it!

  • @betsy1947 I feel you on that! And I hate when I get poked, too! The Lapel Stick is a great little tool to have in your stash. :o)

  • I can't wait to try this! I've always been intimidated by zippers, but you make this look so easy. Thanks!

  • @betsy1947 Go for it! Let me know how it works out for you. :o)

  • I just made this last night and it proved to be harder than expected lol it was my second project on my machine I just got yesterday!! I will have to try again and I cant wait !! Thanks for your help :D

  • @TheVivs3 hahaha... For a second project ever it sounds like you did great! Practice, practice, practice! Once you get a feel for your machine and what it likes and dislikes you will be unstoppable! :o)

  • I love your video, you make it look so easy!

    Suzanne at Lapelstick

  • @MsSuzanne88 Thanks, Suzanne! :o)

  • Thanks for showing how to sew around a zipper and adding a wristlet!

  • @EMGcrafter No problem! :o)

  • wow amazing work I've done the pillowcase dress and the place matt all have been a great hit w my fam bam now I'm going to do this thanks :) and yes u do need to make a tutorial on curtains plez

  • @carinajimmy Thank you. Glad you are having fun with my tutorials! :o)

  • thanks for this I actually have been wanting to make a cosmetic bag since my last one broke. is basting expensive?

  • @busydefyinglogic No problem. The batting isn't too expensive especially since you'll only need two small pieces. It may cost you a few dollars and you'll have enough to make at least 5 cosmetic bags. If you don't want to bother buying it you can always use some flannel fabric, or some interfacing (if you have). Look around your house for some fabric that may be a little thicker than plain cotton and that would be fine to use as it would give the bag a little body so its not too flimsy. :o)

  • @TheCraftyGemini okay thanks for the tip :]

  • Do you have a tute on how to make curtains?? If not you should :D

  • @TheVivs3 Not yet. But it's on my suggestion list of tutorials to do! Thanks! :o)

  • @LetiLaFlaca haha. Tru! Hope you make tons of them! Have fun! :o)

  • thanks for sharing

  • @neddie58 No prob. :o)

  • Thanks!!!

  • Now if only I had a sewing machine lol.

  • @727janelle Check online on craigslist if you are interested in getting one. I've bought some for as low as $20! :o)

  • Great Job!!!! If you're making a wet bag with oil cloth or pul do you need to layer? And do you Case the zipper in some way? Or it is ok left exposed?

  • @Missrlbarlow I would still layer when using oil cloth or PUL just because the needle will make small holes in it when sewing and you may get moisture leaking or seeping out through there. I've made wetbags with the clear vinyl stuff on the inside to keep that from happening. I used velcro type stuff on my wetbags but you could probably leave the zipper exposed as long as the teeth aren't metal. Hope this helps.

  • Great!

  • Fantastic!

  • did you make that flower in your hair? also, if you did, is there a tutorial up for it? if not, please make one!

  • @mellamomikayla LOL. I do have a tutorial for that fabric flower hair clip. Just do a YouTube search for "How to make a fabric flower" and mine is one of the first ones that pops up. Just look for the one that has "TheCraftyGemini" channel name on it. Have fun!

  • @AnnaNeemus THANK YOU!

  • Thanks for the great video - with a waterproof inside fabric, and no batting, I make these for "snack" bags!

  • @Sewonforever Great idea! Love that they are reusable, too!

  • nice vid =)

  • @lin90210 Thank you! :o)

  • Thank you !!!! :)

  • @Hymoluav11 No problem! :o)

  • the glue stick doesnt get on the needle? I was just thinking wouldnt it be great if they made a glue stick for sewing ! Your a great teacher. Thank you for investing your gifts in others.

    I love Jesus.

  • @greatdanechick2 Nope! That's why I like that Lapel Stick. It doesn't gum up my needle because it's made for that kind of stuff. A regular glue stick may not be the same. So, make sure its an adhesive that can be used for sewing. :o)
