  • this is so bad motherfucking ass, especially the drummer at the very first of this vid.holy!!!!!!!!!!! im a good drummer, but i dont know if i could ever pull that shit off.

  • Amazing!

  • ME DIERON GANAAAS DE BAAILAAAAR

  • Boz is the man! And still going strong! He's probably the most under-rated songwriter of the 20th century...yet, he's simply awesome! Most people have no clue of the fantastic rock/pop/love songs he wrote. Jeff Porcaro was just amazing! I love the video where he explains how he took "Fool in the Rain" and the Purdie Shuffle for the backbone of Rosanna. Toto had some success but they were just a great band and hope the younger kids "get it".

  • Jeff Porcaro on drums. It is pure heaven! Love, love, love Boz any year, anytime, anyway!!!!

  • Fabulous!!! It is so cool to see a young Boz doing his thing! It's all so natural and yet a ""class-A performance!! The whole scene takes me back.... Ahhh the 70's what a great time to be alive! I've been a Boz fan since then and still adore him! Saw him for the first time last Fall, I took my 24 year old son to see him because he had never heard if Boz Scaggs( shame on me) ! William Royce is still the man after all these years! Check out the song " I got your number" with Boz and the late

  • love Jeff!!!!!!

  • Not long after we had Toto!

  • Watch Jeff Porcaro at around 1:25!!! :)

  • this song reminds me of the 70's so much

  • @floridapmi Totally! Great stuff!

  • At a 1:26 Jeff Porcaro is being a goof ball!

  • Is this the version we hear all the time? I cant tell

  • @analyzingfunny Nope...this is live & much more raw. I LOVE this video...warts and all!!

  • @mamallama29 ty

  • They made so many clams on this take, and were laughing their asses off at the end.....just classic!! Thanks for sharing!

  • @GoFuckaPregnantPig You obviously fuck pigs so what the fuck do you know, queer for pigs!

  • THIS IS AWESOME!!!! Could you imagine an act like this performing on American idol?

Those clown ass judge's jaw's would hit the floor!!!

  • I think, but I could be wrong, Hutch Hutchinson was playing bass with Boz Scaggs at this point ?.

  • Love it

  • Beautiful work.

  • Jeff is just so so good even early in his great but short-lived career as a groove artist. We love you and miss you so much. Great post! Thanks!

  • I can watch this a million times. Great song, great performance, great musicianship. Boz really changed his artistry from the time he was with Steve Miller Band in the early SanFrancisco days of the Sailor album.

  • @rickylalane I think I may HAVE watched it a million times, ha! I just love it...the 'raw' quality, the old-time video-ness, and most of all the incredible artistry. It is one of my very faves...I come back to hear it & 'get my fix' regularly! Just...awesome.

  • 4 people didnt like this...they probably listen to Kayne West and Lady Gaga. this video is the era where musicians had talent, and lots of it!

  • I play this song out with my band live; the drum part was very, very tricky, as the ghost notes kind of ran counter to how I am used to playing them, but I finally got them down the was Jeff plays them. He was one of the most unique-sounding drummers out there during his time in my opinion.

  • @Timcoplawyer Oh - no doubt about it. Jeff is one of the ALL time greats...in my opinion! What a groovester...

  • This is a great example of how important the rhythm section is to making the music move. Jeff Porcaro's shuffle at the start of this swings like crazy. I wish more bands would put greater expectation on their rhythm section to 'groove' and to 'swing'. I'm a drummer, and I find the rhythm sections in most younger bands to be lame. Whoever came up with the idea that a 'groove' is just a straight boom-chuck over and over got it wrong. A groove needs energy and swing. Like we see here.

  • @MrCherryJuice Oh, AMEN!!

  • @MrCherryJuice To be fair, drummers in the class of Jeff Porcaro are few and far between worldwide and the rest aren't all thumbs either :)

  • @MrCherryJuice To be fair, drummers in the class of Jeff Porcaro are few and far between worldwide and the rest aren't all thumbs either

  • @MrCherryJuice To be fair, Jeff Porcaro was a world class drummer that are few and far between and the rest aren't all thumbs either :)

  • rock aN roll i love it

  • 4 people missed the boat.

  • Total professionalism; great show. These guys (and ladies) knew how to do it.

  • This is when music was music. Real, alive, they played for the audience and loved it. Brings back some great memories, like a time machine. Those were some good days the 70s.

  • dig the song and dig the chicks

  • @ BadassDZ.......Itdoes....and I'm gonna need my foot back.

  • I can tell you I saw Jeff Porcaro at The Baked Potato, and I've never seen a more natural display of live rhythm in my life. He was truly natural.

  • holy shit, this video is amazing

  • the piano was awesome

  • Boz and the Porcaros. Does not get anymore West Coast then this!!

  • @jimmythec1960 - other than Huey Lewis and the News...

  • Amazing! :)

  • What's the song about ? And who is this "Lido" dude ?

  • Boz has done it all and seen it all he is the best

  • Cool post! Hes the Boss!

  • Amazing groove!..

2:35... how hard he hits the drums, he was the greatest!..

  • 18 piece orchestra. 3 piece (chord), back-up vocal. Sax player. Awesome voice.

    Boz, fugetaboutit.

Wait...wait. What do we have today? Just leave. Don't attack. Leave.

  • i miss this

  • A few things - first I thank my Dad for exposing me to this kind of music when I was a kid because now I have no problems playing it for my kids. They need to know what REAL music is all about. Secondly, that keyboard player with the mustache looks so much like the late great Brad Delp from Boston :] And third, going to see the Boz man in Tarryton NY next month - can't wait. Real music = Boz Skaggs. Doesn't get much better than this. Keep it alive and see him on tour! :)

  • Wow this was when the Toto sound was just being formed by the Porcaro brothers - man that Steve solo at 2:45. Gives me goose bumps.

  • Not sure why the post-er is assuming Mike Porcaro is playing bass here, especially when it's acknowledged that he can't be seen. David Hungate played bass on Boz's biggest and earliest albums.

  • Jeff knockin' out the 16th's...

  • i used to love hearing this song on Top 40 radio back in the seventies riding down the highway

  • I only just realized today that Jeff Porcaro did the drums on Lido Shuffle, but considering how great they sound, I should have figured.

  • @RMNCOfficial You know, this song is how I first came to know of Jeff's work. I have ALWAYS loved the song, and considering the musicianship it's no wonder. Ever since then, I've been putting together piece by piece different stuff that I love that Jeffrey played on as well...coincidence? I think not! What a master of groove. RIP.

  • This is great! We love you Jeff!!! Man, this is old school like no kids know today!

  • one of the finest in rock

  • esta rola solo la llegue a tocar una sola vez

    y rifo

    espero no sea la ultima

  • The sound at 2:45 is totally amazing. The whole band is perfectly tuned together and that synthesizer is awesome! No other version of this song sounds quite the same without that synth (and Steve Porcaro). I have been listening to this version every 2 days or so for the past 2 years!

  • @JordanStew1982

Man I posted without seeing your post saying almost the same thing. Yes, the break starting at 2:45 is freakin' G-R-E-A-T. Isn't it amazing that you could play this for most people these days, and they wouldn't even get it. They're missing the whole boat of this level of talent. I honestly feel sorry for them because it's like missing a whole other aspect of sex or something.

  • Sweet Mother of God that was so good it could cure cancer

  • When I found out my band wanted to play "Lido Shuffle", I studied Jeff's shuffle beat over and over again and could not figure it out for the life of me. Then I found a guy on youtube who broke it down into it's basic components and finally figured it out, after hours and hour of practice....toughest drum part I have ever learned to play, bar none!

  • @Timcoplawyer Part Perdie shuffle...part Bonzo shuffle! We miss you Jeff!!

  • This could be the best vid on this whole site!

  • Good to see Les Dudek working. Jeff did some nice drumming on his albums.

  • haha look at jeff porcaros cool dance moves at 1:27 lol

  • This video kick so much ass its foot hurts.

  • @BadassDZ The three people who dislike this masterpiece should have there asses kicked till it hurts. LOL

  • album formidable..........

  • On the other hand, he's up there with some really hard working talented (I venture to guess) guys, and they don't deserve to have him so coked out of his gore he can't remember the song, just irresponsible of him....still love the video either way!!!!

  • I love this video!!!!! Boz is fu***** up so bad & that guy on keyboards (who has looks like he's never missed a note in his life!) finally goes into a panic & tries to cover up for Boz,LMAO! I know what it feels like when someone you are on stage with is fu**** up, (not music, obviously) & I hate it, but it sure is funny to watch!

  • thanks... ive been looking for this sweet

    1976

  • thanks... ive been looking for this

  • I like the dude with the cig hanging out of his mouth.

    Very '70s.

  • @JoeJacari That's the legendary Les Dudek.

  • This is AWESOME!

It's almost like Boz Skaggs wrote songs that perfectly matched Jeff Porcaro's drumming style. Jeff played with soul, something missing from many of today's speedy, technical drummers.

For another dose of Boz Skaggs and Jeff Porcaro syncing perfectly check out the lesser known song 'Some Imagination." It's still one of my favorite. Pure magic.

And that's just Jeff Porcaro. I'd have loved to catch all of that talent on stage live myself. This is the stuff that makes life good!

  • great stuff!

  • great

  • This is the earliest video recording of "Lido Shuffle" I could find. Of course, you can listen to the original recording from the album anytime. I just liked the video.

  • yeah! that's jammin', whatever the profit!

  • The whole performance is awesome, but I really dig the first 29 seconds ;-) Jeff (RIP) has already kicked off and Boz needs to pick up on the groove, but it sounds so tight, excellent!

  • These were like the first Videos ..Way before MTV .. It was all good back in the 70's!

  • The Lido Shuffle is actually one of favorite Boz Scaggs songs from his 1976 album Silk Degrees.

  • Lido Shuffle is one my favorite Boz Scaggs songs as kid and adult from his 1976 album Silk Degrees.

  • Nice F up at 1:38

  • Outstanding.

They sure don't make music like this anymore.

  • I really love the way they're all really going for it - giving it their all. what an amazing concert that must have been.

  • rough...raw....and right on it...

  • Yep,Jeff really is a Rock n Roll drummer first and foremost.Of course hes an anything he wants to be drummer, but knows that rocking the crap out o the crowd comes first.Smoking post thanks.

  • What is Jeff doing at 1:27 ? Directing a plane, lol.

Jeff kills in this song like every fking song he plays on.

I'm missing Jeff, Freddie Mercury, and Frank Zappa constantly.

  • @GaryNull No doubt I had a laugh about that also. Jeff is the best! 2:00 is great too...Boz doesn't go to the right part of the tune.

  • Wow, drummer does a great job

  • @seekerseven ... drummer ? ..... his name is Jeff Porcaro and he is one of the greatest drummers who ever lived .

  • True, I think... The Boz had a bit of a buzz on!

  • I love Jeff Porcaro, and I miss him.

  • Man, Boz was getting lost at the end!!! Thank God for his lady backing singers!!

  • @jasonwhitedrum ....haha ... he totally was lost .... no matter , a brilliant performance anyway .... energy out the wazooo

  • Good Love you Jeff & Happy Birthday 1/04, all the best Mike. I actually had a message with Steve Pocaro on F.B. today

    Stewart

  • Some sad news... I just heard Mike Porcaro has been diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Keep him in your prayers.

  • I don't think Boz really remembered his own song here...but the Porcaros did. What a great band!!

  • Is the guy still touring ?...

  • @essertpitay

Sure is, saw him in Sydney Australia 2 weeks ago, it was killer. I wish Jeff was there ;-(

  • Sweet! Thanks for posting this.

  • Love this clip! What a great band Boz had! A fantastic groove and time! Check out our westcoast project State Cows. Lots of Porcaro shuffles there!

  • Jeff was the best ever... I'll always miss him and play through him whenever I can.

  • He was an incredible drummer

  • Saw Boz at Palais theatre Melbourne on Friday - he and his band are still excellent and accomplished performers - highly recommended if you are lucky enough to have him tour your town

  • From 2:45-3:10 The drumming, the bass, and the keyboard are epic. Love this shit.

  • How much faster could they play? And the answer is none. None more faster....

  • Bates funeral chapel tune?

  • Jeff.. the man! 22 years old.. Amazing!!

  • GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • does the boz, flub the words up at 2:02 ?

  • yeah...

  • JEFF still lives,

there will never be a better drummer on this planet,

  • 3:45 ... looks like the rock was so rollin' that jeff's glasses flew off!

    rip jeff

  • @willprich

yeah--- they just kinda disappear from his face there for a minute! *lol* I can relate to that.

  • I was searching long for this song.

    Two words: Thrilling Awesome

    Grtz from Holland

  • Holy shite, this is sweet!!

  • this is awesome!!,the bass line, the drumming, the synth then theres boz = true brilliance,i wish i was alive then to see it.

  • love the synth at 2:45

  • i love this song this kicks ass

  • Jeff @ 3:44

  • @GaryNull

NO foolin'! This is one of those "signature" Jeff tunes that never gets old. He was SMOKIN'....!

  • Not many drummers have the energy, feel, or whatever that can make a song flow and come alive.

I like this song, but songs I wouldn't normally like I would like because Jeff is playing drums on them.

  • With steve, mike & jeff porcaro in the band

BOZ must of been super delighted,

    I would be.

  • Kenja loves Bozz and the Porcs.

  • I thought Paich also backed Boz Scaggs.

  • I love the gritty old stock footage from the 70s...working the phones I didn't realize Boz had a part time office job

  • Thought the same...Times must hve been hard...

  • Thanks Boz! Best wishes, Rich

  • having the TOTo powerhouse behind u...can make u a STAR.

  • Those were the days...What a time for music & stellar musicianship.

  • God Bless Mike Porcaro,RIP Jeff

  • So cool. Never realized how great it was eing young, back then. You weren't young - you just were.

Then you're old & remeber when you -were.

  • R.I.P Jeffrey. I love u.

  • Yeah, Boz was the Buzz in the 1970's , back in the mid 80's i worked as an radio announcer and i played this song on high rotation, the song is know for it's POWER and it's a drummer's Fav, cause there's a lot going on and it's not as easy as Jeff makes it look, I wish this clip was shown to some current crop of drummers and some music no- it- all's, Because Jeff Porcaro is just simply ' The Best ' in my humble opinion . [ RIP Jeff ]

  • I worked in a record store after Highschool. 1977..I played this record, George Benson and Eddie Kendricks until I quit! All excellent!

  • Larry Carlton called Jeff his favorite musician. He was always my favorite musician.

  • Spot on Man, Im a guitarist but as a kid I seen Jeff on the box one night after a school gig, changed my life forever, Jeff is the greatest, THE groove master!!

  • Jeff Porcaro (RIP)

  • Boz is one cool dude for sure. He is one of the few white guys that can claim he has true SOUL! There are few that can sing like the Boz. Plus ole' Boz had the moves in the 70's too!

  • I love Jeff's arm movements at 1:26

  • i still cant get over how smooth the timing is on that shuffle beat. not an easy song to play on the drums...you can fake it but jeff plays it the best.

  • It just don't get any better than Jeff Porcaro on drums....period..

  • funny how he makes that mistake at about 2:00 in, nevertheless, a great song, they don't do it like that anymore

  • roots video, love it

  • ehh Close enough my name is LITO..... :D

  • Great song! Thanks for sharing this.

  • is this Penny McLean singing with the background singers?

  • Man... get a load of that deep, deadly pocket going! No one can shuffle like Porcaro... sweet!

  • @losmezcalito Deep, deadly pocket :-) Great!

  • ahhhh...diese schlechten verstärker in den 70er jahren geben dem ganzen einen charme, der unvergleichlich ist :)...so einen sound bekommt man heute einfach nicht mehr hin ....schade

  • Yeah, Boz porked the ending. That's why you hire pros to play your songs - they get paid to NOT fuck up.

These were pros who coaxed Boz to a smooth landing.

  • I miss the 70's

  • me too I find that I have to have at least 1 fix of boz a week.

  • 1:59 is great. Boz Scaggs sings songs like me.

  • Now those are some freakin' awesome ghost notes! (:06)

  • Jeff Porcarro is on my List of favorite Drummers!! I play drums for fun , learned alot from you!!! RIp Jeff, You are missed!!!

  • gotta love Les Dudek ripping that guitar up!

  • Its official, there is no one cooler than BOZ!

  • Boz got lost once in the song early but managed to stay in it as the band kept pushing forward and at a round 3.15 everybody seems to do their own version, however they again manage to finish the song all together, still a great video and one of my 70ies favorites, lots of energy and joy there!

  • PORCARO FAMILY!!!

  • Great performance!

  • hey does anyone know what notes to play during the keyboard solo after the 2nd chorus? I believe it is an arpeggio of this sequence: G/D, D, Bb/F, F, C/E, loop back

  • G D B (x4) F#-D-A (x4) Bb F D (x4) A F C (x4) - and I think after that, you just stack the chord every 4 bars.

This version is either running fast, or the recording was slowed. This is in B, and the studio recording is in Bb.

  • i was there that night.

  • No Wayyyyy!!!!!!

  • those fuckin shades rock-bozworth rocks
