@tnfireman13 Yes it was a BLEVE. There was nothing but gas in that van. It exploded out the driverside because of the spout being on that side of the vehical. But it did not start in the tank. It started in the engine. By the time I pulled over my entire engine was in flames and the fire was already inside the van with me. I told my daughter to jump when I got down to about 30mph. She happened to be 4 months pregnant and we had just seen my now grandson that day. It was a scarry day for us both.
@Cjl99 Yeah this made it on Destroyed in seconds. I was shocked to see it on T.V. But I was also glad that it has helped the fire departments here in MN taking better precautions. Could you imagine being a fire fighter standing there trying to hose it down and it explodes and you do not have your mask on? I give my thanks to them for the job they do each and every day.
Glad y'all made it out ok, though that bus driver should be given a citation for driving so close to a blatant hazard such as that... just curious, was it a ford?

Not as much as I did when I found out that my van was on fire.... Yes that is my mini van that exploded... Thankfully me and my daughter made it out alive... If anyone would like to see pictures of the after effect of the van just message me and I can send them to ya....
Well there was only gas in the van and that was in the gas tank. A FULL tank of gas.... But by the time the fire department went to look at the van after the fire it was already distroyed by the company that towed it to their lot... So no actual understanding as to what caused the fire was determined...
I was just wondering. I have seen probably 50 or more car fires over the last twenty years and I have never seen one explode like that. I know the gas tank can BLEVE but I have never seen one do that. That is an interesting video for sure. Thanks for showing it.

Just saw this footage on Discovery, when did this happen?
Imagine being one of those cars that just missed it and looking back in your rear view to see...

Looks like the tank failed on one side only. Thank goodness it had a full tank. Could you imgaine what would've happened with a 1/2 full tank.
