  • awesome jam, was this during lunch break?

  • Doug Keyser is God!!!

  • technical trash metal, man¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • suspenders+bullet belt= badass? whoa. total mind blow

  • @DarthDowning148xU needs the suspenders coz those belts just weigh your pants down bahaha

  • at the beginning of 90es technical thrash bands were defined as techno thrash, long before techno music as we know it today was invented

  • GODS

  • wow a lot of the audience...

  • @simmyludilo These gods don't need audience..

  • Doug Keyser makes me smile. Love his bass action!

  • first of all it's great music...and next to death, atheist it's the greatest f*cking music I had the pleasure to listen to

stop arguing in a circle 'bout the damn genres!!

  • @hatemalicerevenge123 Exactly ...

  • TECHNICAL THRASH!

  • @shaboobo1988 Ultra technical mate, Ultra technical

  • TECHNO THRASH?? WTF..TECHNO=TRASH xDD

  • the bass player swinging around his bass looks really cool for some reason lol

  • Techno-Thrash???!!! wtf!

  • It seems like a sound check more than a gig..

  • where's the rest of this gig?

  • when billy white left watchtower I remember thinking " well thats the end of watchtower cuz they will not find a guitarist as good as billy " boy was I wrong.

  • @byerly6 hahahaaa me too mannnnnnn... Boy o boy..

  • haha what kinda gig is this?

  • I think they're allot better with Jarzombek.

  • Jason on vox, Billy on guitar. I remember Watchtower from the first Lp, "Energetic Disassembly". Billy went on to play with Don Dokken.

Totally different sound but old friends of Watchtower, VSD from Baltimore, has some old vids posted on here from 1987. It's way less technical, more metal/ crossover style. VSD- Phantasmagoria, Mental Breakdown, and 3 others.

  • Wasn't Ron Jarzombek the guitarist?

  • Ron was the second guitarist for Watchtower. That is Billy White in this video.

  • Ahh okay, because I knew he was for a while.

  • I like Watchtower!!!

Jason McMaster have an incredible voice,

I like also Dangerous Toys and Broken Teeth!

  • I'm not entirely familiar w/ Watchtower. Is this Jason or Alan on vox? Regardless, it's major kickass.

  • My f up it was billy white...Duhhh

  • That is not Ron Jarzombek, it is Billy White.

  • Sounds to me like the band is pretty damn tight and the guitarist is f'n sick @ 2:03, not sure but think that singer went on to the Dangerous Toyz and Broken Teeth. I dig it

  • pretty sure the name dangerous toys is actually based off of a watchtower song

  • those are some bad ass suspenders

  • im so proud that they came from my home town

    San Antonio, Tx!

Ron is one of the best guitar players in the world

  • Fucking radical man

  • full crowd

  • fear of the righteous!!!!

  • ron jarzombek es un genio !

  • I confess, I am knowing this band now, but this is pure fucking 80's disgace METAL!!!!AWESOME!!!!

  • from an outside standpoint...i think they are very bizarre overall. hopefully you are not offended i just find it interesting but not in the context of heavy metal.

  • Well, fuck the context of Heavy Metal..... they made their own stuff. I hope you´re not offended. Cheers.

  • true

  • This is pre-dangerous toys singer btw

  • shut up you idiots, nothing in today's ands compares to this old school mayhem LONG LIVE 80's METAL DAMMIT!!

  • My honest opinion? I think they should have found a singer who wasn't all "cock rocky" and they would have made it a lot bigger than they were. Also, a better drummer would have helped too. Very unique sound though.

  • acidtones1: My honest opinion? I think they should have found a singer who wasn't all "cock rocky" and they would have made it a lot bigger than they were. Also, a better drummer would have helped too.

    TedV: Are you kidding???!!!!!!!!!

  • i agree about the singer, i don't like his style, personally. Awesome band none-the-less!!

  • Yeah. It's just the singing but you can get past that. He's not that great of a singer but it's not like it's nails against a chalkboard either. It's just around that time, in the mid or late 80's, it wasn't a unique vocal style. And I think his vocal range would have been better if he sang normal.

  • His vocal style with Watchtower pre-dated "cock rock".

  • acidtones1: yeah, I like the vocals in the song "Violent Change" - they're lower pitched and tougher.

But a better drummer? Not many dudes could have played what Rick Colaluca was playing (this is one of the simpler songs though). Have you heard his drumming on songs like "Instruments of Random Murder"? If you had one chance to listen to that song you would not be able to play it properly first go.

  • Well you're probably right. Now that I think about its just that the drums are harder to hear in this video.

  • Go Jason and Billy White!!!! ^ ^ w00T!

  • i was at this show as with most metal shows, this is the original line up.texas metal scene was insane at this time.damn i feel old now.

  • One of my favorite live footage. Reminds me of days of my old band. What a nice day to play outside too!

  • Yup, this is the original line up with Billy White. Watchtower at its greatest!

  • godband

  • I disagree with McLeod54 I think Techno-thrash is a creative thrash sub-genre I actually want to experiment with thrash mixed with techno that would be an awesome genre

  • That's Billy White on guitar. He named the band, wrote their 1st original song "The Watchtower" and coined the phrase "techno-thrash" because nobody knew what to call their music.

  • "dude, if you wont spell the whole word technical, you shorten it to tech. Techno=Technology, and theres no computers making the music for Watchtower."

Technothrash is a specific offshot of thrash metal, pioneered by bands like Watchtower, Sieges Even, Deathrow, Megace, Realm and such. Please don't cry that it doesn't mean 'technological' but 'technocratic'.

  • Tech. metal. Did these guys ever tour with Voivod? They should've. That would've kicked ass.

  • techno means what????? .. technical?

  • Yes, as in "technical thrash". It was before techno music so...yeah.

  • PS "Techno thrash" is like the worst name I ever heard of.

  • That IS Jarzombek with the funny, teased hair, right?

  • i think that is their former guitarist, billy white... could be wrong. it's the 80's!

  • Naw it's probabaly Billy White considering the vocalist sounds more like Jason McMaster than allan tecchio

  • It's got to be Billy White -- He rocks!

  • jajajajajajajaj

  • Well, it helps if it more than a trashy 80's bootleg.

  • The sound quality on this video is bad. You should listen to the actual album. Watchtower is actually a lot more "progressive" for that time in the Heavy Metal genre than Dream Theater's earlier stuff. Thrashier bands just didn't sound like Watchtower back then or now.

  • this think that prog is gay.. because you are gay.. watch the watchtower - eldritch video.. dumb ass..

  • Pity the sound qualiy is so bad, it'd really like to hear a better sample of their music >_>

  • By the way, the video was awsome! Rare stuff I guess:) Thx for sharing it!

  • dunno where you got techno thrash from... this is pure tech prog metal.

  • techno thrash means: Technical Thrash... Eversince this Techno style is exist poeple don't understand what is thecno-anything... shameful

  • dude, if you wont spell the whole word technical, you shorten it to tech. Techno=Technology, and theres no computers making the music for Watchtower.
