I'm not that far in. But I have no idea what to think of this game. I kinda miss the Kingdom Hearts fighting... But need to finish this to move onto KH2. Sigh
I remember playing this game on the GBA when I was 9 years old. It was my first Kingdom Hearts (sad to say). Then when I did play the original Kingdom Hearts did I realize how much I didn't like CoM. Seriously, if I wanted to play with cards I would have started up my emulator and a Yu-Gi-Oh ROM. It's not a bad game per say, but it simply does not compare (though I'm aware of the innovations in which this game had made way for games in which would follow, specifically newer handheld KH games).
I think the voice acting thing might be due to the fact that Sora's voice actor had already hit puberty, so his voice didn't make sense, as well as voice acting can be expensive.
Personally, I think the card system looks annoyingly complicated, but maybe you get used to it after a while. But I think the main problem with the card system is, while it's an interesting idea on it own, the fact it in this Kingdom Hearts sequel. If people are going into this game, they're going to expect the basic system from before.
I heard that the reason why there is more text is because the guy who was in charge of making Re: Chain Memories, is the same guy who created some Pokemon video games. I don't know, but that's what I heard. And by the way... i think you're walkthroughs are cool! I'm glad that you're one of those people who say what they think and don't try so hard to be funny. I personally think that when someone tries so hard to do something to impress, they end up making a fool of themselves. U don't do that.
there wasnt alot of voice actin cuz it was a gba game and u cant voice act in a gba game so they kept alot of the text from it so that it would have kinda the same feel just more epic
The way you describe the door card system, it reminds me of the card game Uno. Man...it's Uno Doors. I can just see Sora going, "Crap! I need a red or a three!"
it could be because they actualy dubbed the game after KH2 so they didn't want you to notice to much that some of the voices are deeper because they made it later
Welll........ Square Enix is anything BUT poor. They kept the voice acting to a minimum because this was a rushed game made within only a year and a half. Plus, it wasn't originally going to be released in America.
I think that they didn't want to do voice acting because the GBA version didn't have it and they wanted to keep it like the first one... The GBA version was the first KH game I got and for some reason is my least favorite. Still haven't beaten it and I think that was 7 yrs ago. Will continue to watch even tho the card system annoys me to no end!
@komer469 I 100% agree with you, I think the card system is one of the BIGGEST gripes and hindrance to KH series. It wasn't good, it was annoying, it was confusion and it wasn't a true action RPG. So many different rules and idk it was just bleh.
I think it was better off staying on GBA tbh, as much as I didn't like them making a "sequel" of the first on the handheld. Also the scores are very low for the PS2 version, and the lack of voices was exactly that.
@jagr06 see oppinon, is one thing, but I get the feeling MOST fans say this because they couldnt stand change, this game isnt THAT difficult to grasp.
Maybe its because Iam sucker for RPGs, Ill admit it, but I think alot of the fanbase is just stuck in their ways.
though ill admit it, lack of voices was a problem
Honestly, Ill stick up for CoM on the premise that it did something different and presented a challenge that wasnt "Press X and Triangle till you win" like KH 2 did.
@Resobaso I'm aware I was speaking from my opinion but it was a complete change in battle system. As an example of what they did: Take god of war or devil may cry battle system, it works for the game but for the sequel they'll put it on a new console(exclusive) and completely take out the combat system you loved about it and turn into like a rpg type game. I started playing KH from the first back in 2002 and fell in love with the system, and KH2 took the first combat system and improved on it.
I can't help but think about like Yugioh when reading the dialogue...the guys like "master the cards sora...MASTER. THE. CARDS." Idk if i'd buy this myself and play it though xP. It looks good, but i'd honestly rather just watch a lets play. THATS WHERE YOU COME IN ;D
My guess was that all of the globetrotting stuff was so low key that the VAs only did stuff for our hooded friends, rather than repeat crap we've been through already in the first game. Seemed that way in the original GBA game, IMO.
Or maybe Squeenix is full of cheap bastards. I dunno.
Also, seems Sora hit puberty immediately at the end of KH as opposed to the end of this game. Silly Haley Joel Osment... XP
I like this version much better than the GBA version. I kept getting my butt kicked, especially by the fat heartless,a nd it was sort of hard to actually land a strike on some of them...

I think the lack of Voice Acting at points, is basicly a case of 'KH1 did it'
Which i personaly don't mind, i'm glad the emphisis is on the orginal parts of the story
