I'm a big Cake fan, but from a technical standpoint Kenny Rogers' original vocals are better.
However the spin McCrea puts on the "B-Sides and Rarities" album version at the end of this song always cracks me up.

Why do idiots fight over wether or not this is better than the original version or not? Fuck. These guys just dig this tune so much they wanted to do it. Because Cake is that cool.

@dunskie I agree... it's a great song and a great cover. I love hearing covers by different artists and these guys are one of the bands that love to cover an eclectic amount of songs. I like their Willie cover of Sad Songs and Waltzes as well. Cake introduces music like this to people who would have never heard it before. Those who just bitch about Cake covering your coveted song should take into consideration they're opening a different generation to music like this.

ahh i was at this show too! McCrea was standing right behind me for the opening bands and i didnt even know it! SUCH a good show though!
